SUPPER CLUB - Monday, March 7th
Good chilly morning.
We have one more dry day before the rains come back. Supposed to really pour next weekend - when we leave for camping. lol. The Luck of the Z's.
Yesterday I got my living/dining rooms (really, all one big room) all polished, dusted, and vac'd in between sessions at my sewing machine. I finished my NS blocks and will assemble them today, again breaking up the sewing with cleaning in the kitchen. It's time to polish countertops, wash glass cabinet doors, clean floor, etc. Bill finished quilting the TN Waltz, so I hope to also trim, label, and bind that. If not, tomorrow is another day.
MARY ROSE - spaghetti is a favorite here and leftovers are always welcome the next night, too.
TINA - We haven't been out to look at fuel prices for about 4 days, but last we saw, we were at $4.29. We know it's gone up. Afraid to see how far. We're feeling the same about the oil that you are. Sources who should know say we have enough reserves to fuel our entire country with no imported oil for over 100 years. It cost us to shut down all those oil locations you mentioned and it will cost us to open them back up again. What a waste of taxpayer dollars! Sorry about your dust storms. It's amazing that you have any dirt left in NM!
VELDA - what a great idea and good use for those fabrics! But a serious undertaking. I see why there's discussion about whether to do it or not. You could always just keep making quilts until the fabric is gone and give them away to homeless people.
LORI - that quilt is really an eye catcher! I love it! I love how you did the colors, too. It would be great in R/W/B, too! Nice to have a quick and easy pattern in your arsenal!
JANA - Mmmm.... I could smell turkey all day long, drifting in from the East. If we can't have both, I vote for mashed potatoes! We've had County Code Enforcement here more than once. The first time they gave Vicki 10 days to clean up or they would start charging her $1,000/day until she did. Her kids came and did a half-hearted effort but that was it and nothing more happened. Now Code Enf. says if the trash can't be seen from the road (and it can't) then they don't care. But if you've seen news reports on homeless camps and all the trash they generate - that's Vicki's house. Now she's added appliances - 2 refrigerators and 2 or 3 dryers. Not sure how she gets them out of the house but her kids say she does it, it's not them. She is so frail, probably not more than 90 #, and with her Huntington's, she can barely walk and stay upright. Covid has pretty much stopped all kinds of social services here and even some law enforcement. Cops don't want to put unvaccinated people in their cars.
CAROL - I think your kit idea is a good one! Including the freezer paper is a nice bonus for the kit recipient. I bought a roll at Costco years ago and still have enough to supply all QIAD members for life! Gotta love Costco! When I forget to thaw my chicken, I put it, still packaged, into a pan of hot water and put the lid on it. I change the water once or twice to heat it up again, but the chicken (we only buy breasts) is usually completely thawed in about a hour.
We grilled our boneless pork chops last night and they were delicious. But big. So we split one last night and tonite we're using the other one to make pork fried rice. With a salad on the side.
How is your menu planning going?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, March 7th
Surprise, surprise, surprise....Yep, finally made it back to the table and really have no excuse for being absent...Well, you know, life sometimes gets in the way.....But, today is a new week, a warm day here in the "burgh" but dreary...We just had a rain and just maybe it will scoot somewhere else, like Tina's....
Mary, I didn't realize you were going to be off and running again this weekend...You sure don't let any grass grow under your tires, do you? You sound like Kathy...After her record breaking wedding day on the 22nd and then Reno getting snow, 3 days in a row, they decided to hop a plane and go to Vegas...She sent me a video of them at the races yesterday and all it was, was cars whizzing by and noise but she said it was fun....She will be coming this way in a couple weeks....But you sure are whizzing by on those quilts...As I've said before, you get a couple made while I'm trying to decide on colors or pattern....
I really, really can't understand how even Vickie's kids can allow her to live like that...Oh, she would be a very stubborn lady but there has to be someway to get her out of there and into a safe place....
You had asked about Terry and Tennessee...Well, he's leaving tomorrow for the 1st of many interviews...He and Theresa have been there a few times plus he lived in N.C. for years and they do like the area...As much as I don't like to think of them moving, it just gives me 1 more place to visit...He also told me, Stephan who is stationed in Kansas might be transferring to that area, also, which would be great....Now to get Nick back on this side of the ocean but from what I'm hearing, it might be awhile...The latest from Nick, he was going to Greece...Still can't believe my little chef is so grown up....
Yesterday, my sister called and said, she and her DD were going through photo albums and I should come over and help....Well, between my mother and her, there had to be at least 35-40 albums....My mother was a great one for pictures...She alone had at least 10 albums of her vacations and trips and when she passed away, I got them and then when I moved, I got rid of them...Now, here we go again...A lot of the pictures were my kids, school, wedding you name it, Mom caught it on camera...Quite a few pic should not have been caught on film but there they were.....Just 1 of the many, many things that needs to be sorted and thrown away......
Today, I'm off to get my hair cut and then Terry is stopping over to help with a few projects...Then later, I might be off to the airport, the girl who cuts my hair is flying to N.C. to look at houses with her fella...She's also the gal who watches Baby when I go away so not sure if I like this idea......
As for my dinner, I have left overs, veggie soup and cinnamon rolls....If Terry stays, maybe we'll order a pizza.....
You all have a great rest of the day........I'll stop back and catch up.....
Happy eating....................

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, March 7th
Thanks Mary. I did a red/white/blue quilt yesterday. Just different size strips with a navy border. Better get outside today while it's dry.
Dorothy, there are always so many pictures to go though. Half the time you don't even know the people in them.
I'm going to help my dad with his computer, then do some sewing this afternoon. I'm taking a class on Wednesday, and there is a bit of prep I need to complete.
I think grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner sounds perfect and easy.
Have a lovely day.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, March 7th
Good afternoon!
Working on safety in my kitchen. I moved my sharp chef knives etc to a drawer, which triggered the safety engineer here to get upset. So we are trying to fix that.
Turkey reruns tonight. A turkey sandwich, with cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo for lunch.
Tina - Michael told me how to make the pressure inside more than outside. It was a quite long lesson, explaining it to me. The short and simple is that a air exchange handler in combination with a electrostatic air filter can increase the pressure, keeping the dust and dirt from infiltrating the cracks and leaks in a house. We have seen these things on This Old House. Michael says the air handler brings in the outside air, runs it through the filter, before it comes into the house via the heating system or the AC system. Very technical. He wants to do that in my house. We are very tight already with good windows and lots if insulation. The electrostatic filter is attached to the furnace. The air handler fits there too.
Mary - here it doesn't matter whether the trash and garbage can be seen from the street, it can't be. You are faster than a speeding bullet in getting those blocks done. Do you leap tall buildings too? I sure wish I was speedy!
Lori - here we keep a cd copy, backed up quite often with all the data to the computer. That way, Michael can wipe our computers completely and reload if somehow what happened to your dad happened here. Hope all is well now.
Irish - Sarah is now under taking a huge picture project here. Not only all of ours, but her in-laws as well. It is the in laws 50th wedding anniversary in a couple of months and that part is for that party. Ours is the thousands of slides Michael took before and after we were married. Sarah is transferring all to a drive for the computer and archive as slides deteriorate.
Well, time to get into trouble, that is one of my talents,
Hugs,
Jana

Jana, my dad used to do that, but since my mom died he's not been the same. He had some on a thumb drive.

Hi all!
I was here this morning, guess I was just thinking of posting.....I think what happened was I was fixing to and Frankie said we needed to get busy cleaning so he could paint when it got warm enough. LOL so off I went to dust, clean bathrooms, vacuum rugs, mopped floors and did some picking up.... he vacuumed all but the area rugs and did windowsills.
Mary, I sure wish I could say "one more dry day before the rains come back". I'm amazed we have any dirt left here too.
Irish, I can't imagine throwing pics away, I love going through old pics.
Lori, grilled cheese and tomato soup is one of my favorites. My Dad is still not the same since Mom passed just over 4 years ago, he still misses her so much.
Jana, well I think the pressurizing won't be happening, I was hoping it was a simple fix....I didn't understand any of what Michael said LOL I'm guessing when the ac is running in the summer it'll make the pressure higher in here than outside.
We cleaned the fridge out for supper.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, March 7th
I finished making 100 kits for Autograph Blocks today. I reworked the directions and printed out 100 copies. (They are half a page.)
Tonight's dinner was leftovers. We had one serving left of two different meals, so we each had a meal. We cleaned our fridge as Tina said.
