Yesterday we gave Drew his LOTR quilt. He was over the moon happy! He kept hugging me, saying thank you over and over again, telling me how much he loved me. Does a gramma's heart good! His brother, Alec, is the same way. I could sew for these young men all day long! I did post a photo yesterday.
Today we're going to Seattle to my dermatologist. It's a long drive and we have a few other errands - Joann's and then to pick up my good Bernie from the Bernie Spa among others. So it's going to be a road day today.
BECCA - you asked about NC cozy mystery authors I'm readying. One is Eva Gates (she has a couple other names she writes under as well). She writes about a librarian and library in an old lighthouse on Outer Banks. Another is Ellen Crosby whose main character owns a vineyard and estate winery in NC, not far from D.C. The story I'm listening to right now is by Miranda James, another librarian series, usually set in MS. The main character has a big Maine Coon cat, Diesel, who goes everywhere with him. This particular story is set in Asheville, NC as the mystery lovers club from the library goes to a week long conference, Diesel included, of course. Another author I really like is Krista Davis. She writes 3 different series, but my favorite is The Diva series set in Old Town Alexandria, VA (where my DD#1, Lara, lives now). That's not too far from NC, is it?
ROSEBUD - so good to see you at the table! I've been keeping an eye out for pictures of your quilt and label. Hope you found your template. A few of El's books have templates included in them - Egg Money and maybe Victory? If exact measurements aren't a problem, I usually use whatever dish, glass, or bowl I can find in my cupboard.
IRISH - you made me laugh. My parents had 20 grandchildren. And they all were so excited when they were finally taller than Nana. And she always laughed because she knew that wasn't saying too much - she was only 4'10". Glad you are having some sunny weather. We will, too, this week, but lows will be low 20's! When I'm out for my morning walk! Brr!! That chick-fi-la certificate will come in handy one day, I'm sure!
JANA - happy birthday to your SIL! That trifle sounds delicious! Seems you just had a discussion about the Rules of the Batt Cave. Did somebody miss that meeting? lol!
CAROL - happy birthday to your niece. How is your sister doing? I have that magazine and saw that pattern. Great for picnics or patio suppers. Yes, I try to make quick work of bindings here. Several years ago when my hands were bad with a fungal infection (yes, I think it's back, hence the dermatology appt today) I couldn't do any hand sewing - or much else for that matter. So I HAD to learn to sew bindings by machine. It's a steep learning curve so that year I made each of my grand cats and dogs a blankie for Christmas. I kept practicing and now I'm pretty good. I did that LOTR binding (85x90) in about 45 minutes.
And now for the business portion of this thread - what's for dinner?? I don't know. Not a clue. Probably poached eggs or maybe soup and grilled cheese. Something quick and easy because it's going to be a long day in the car.
Thoughts for your supper tonite?
