SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Jan 7th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Jan 07, 2022 4:04 am

Good morning!

We were 82* yesterday after a very foggy morning. Last night we had hard rain and today we'll be 15* cooler with 18 mph winds. Then we'll be hot again for the weekend. I never know how to dress without checking the forecast.

Yesterday Bill dropped me off at A Block Away quilt shop while he went to get our rock chip replaced. It wasn't a big shop, but they had everything I needed for Starry Night. And much of it was in their clearance bin. :D Then we found a Mexican pottery place and I got a beautiful painted swan plant holder for our deck and a turtle for our friends' koi pond. They've been checking on our place every few weeks. Today will be all about sewing, I think. Bill will be helping our friends with their TV and computer.

TINA - glad Jaz is done with the dentist for a while. But I bet she is even more glad! We started taking ours for check-ups at 3 yrs old. Of course, they mostly saw the hygienist and the real dentist only at the end of the appt. They saw him out of context one day and pointed to him and said, "Look mom! There's the boy that helps our dentist!". lol! Seems like your weather has either been too hot, too cold, too windy, too dusty to paint.

BECCA - I hope you are done with the leaves now. Smart to have a full pantry. We are usually well-stocked, too, just in case of storms or pandemics. My MIL kept only about 10 cans of food on hand and nothing in her freezer. She grocery shopped every day for that night's supper. They would have starved in an emergency!

VELDA - "orts" are the little ends of thread that are clipped off when stitching. Some folks get a little obsessive about saving them and they fill up clear, empty Christmas ornaments with them. Not me! I toss them. I checked out your quilt. Great layout! I hope the raffle brings in a lot of money for your donation.

JANA - happy Aaron's Last Day!! I'm excited for him. Since your bins are now so light, you should summon all those grands and make a sort of bin brigade on that stairway, passing them one to the other all the way down! They would have fun!

Today I think we're going to have grilled chicken. And maybe rice and peas. This will give me leftover chicken tomorrow and I think I'll make chicken noodle soup with that. I'm sure I'll have leftovers of that to freeze for a quick meal for when we're on the road again.

What great ideas do you have for supper tonite?

Good morning 🌻 we had our chili last night, so leftovers tonight. I bought a turkey breast on Tuesday, grocery day, so I will cook that over the weekend. We didn't do a turkey dinner at Christmas, and DH loves turkey and leftovers of it. So "ask and you shall receive", I told him. LOL
I, too, just throw clipped threads away, but mostly I seem to adorn myself with them. DH gets a kick out of teasing me. πŸ˜‰
We had someone say, " you can't gamble at church"!
But our Pastor says that this is not gambling. All proceeds are a donation to our missionary. A $5 donation gets your name or any name you choose into the drawing. So I guess our project is within protocol.
I am going to do some asking about your suggestion to add extra scrap fabric for the quilter. Thanks for the info.
I got back to sewing mission quilt tops yesterday. I had one that I started before I got busy with other projects last fall. There was a large long piece in with the bag of scrap fabrics with a very old pieced quilt beginning. Fabrics look very, very old! Long enough but needed more width. I started adding strips and yesterday pieced 5" pieces to made more width. It took 20, 5" squares to make a border long enough. Then I still needed 8" on each side. Cut up more fabrics from my sister-in-law's dress fabrics to add that border.
When I get those added today, I can add that as another finished top.
Next time we meet to sandwich more tops will be later this month I think Jan 24th. I want to be able to contribute a few more tops.
Off to the shower. Have a great sewing day!!

Good morning!
Mary, sounds like you had a very fun day yesterday! Glad you found all that fabric 😊
Jazmyne has been going to the dentist since she was little, they all have, but with covid none of them have been since 2019 I think was their last checkups and all was good then. Jazmyne is very bad about eating ice and we think it cracked her enamel and that's how she ended up with cavities.
Vel, your quilt is so pretty, it's not gambling it's a fundraiser LOL I hope they raise lots of funds ❀ you're really going to town getting tops together.
Becca, I did some drawers yesterday, that's a job that's hard on the back! I threw bunches away because I was doing our filing cabinet. I still have bunches to do but I called it a great effort yesterday and Frankie has to haul it all to the transfer station and he said with that and all the other stuff we've been throwing away that his truck will be full so he's happy. I shredded a bunch yesterday too. I had to look at every paper and if it had SS numbers or bank info or any other kind of personal information then it was shredded first, what a job that was. At least now I can go through a smaller amount at a time and sit at it. I emptied 2 huge drawers out.
I'm going to wash fabrics today and try to make a plan for me. I also have to go get our grocery pick up order. The geothermal lines are being put in today. They're digging the ditches 3' deep for them.
Baked chicken and rice sings yummy to me so that'll be supper and I'll add a veggie, just gotta see what we're in the mood for then.

Maryz - The quilt shop stop sounds like a total success and so much fun and in the clearance bin too!

Tina - So good they are making such good progress on your new system.

Becca - Cleaning drawers too? I do need to work on a few. DH has been cleaning the drawers in his study. He has been throwing away bundles of old papers.

Jana - Hooray for Aaron's last day!

Vel - The quilt setting is great, hope they make lots of money!

I forgot to post yesterday. I made Ham and Bean Soup yesterday morning and used my oven as a slow cooker all day. I had an eye appointment and the office had told me they would dilate my eyes but the doctor didn't need to do it. DH had driven me, so he took a short nap in the car and was happy. He didn't mind and I was so happy I could quilt yesterday. The missing thread had arrived on Wednesday.

Today I have a Carotid Artery Scan. I need to exchange a knife my DH got me for Christmas and will get that done today as well. (He bought a paring knife and I want a boning knife.)

Dinner tonight will be Chicken.

Good morning!

This is my official resignation from the cooking world! I can't cook anything right anymore! Even the simplest dish I have been cooking all my life didn't turn out right last night. If we had a dog, he would have walked away from it to! Dinner will be someone else's doing tonight, the horse better know the way.

Hopefully I can turn Yoohoodi loose in a bit. Need to check the carpet for stray ornament hooks. Yoohoodi doesn't do well with them, they get stuck and I get error messages. Before I can head down to get in trouble in the Batt Cave, I need to send out the Ward music list to my team. I have it done through February. Need to see when Easter is this year, so we can plan the program and the choir number needed.

Gotta run, Sarah just called
Hugs,
Jana
