SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Dec 30th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Dec 30, 2021 4:58 am

Good morning,

We're 54* this morning, chance of rain, 79* predicted this afternoon. At home it's snowing. Again.

Yesterday was a busy sew-day. I finished all the little stars I can do here. I packed that project away and will make more when we get home. Then I put together my Christmas Swap blocks. Today I will add the outer border to that and then put together lotto blocks from last summer's Big Win. After that, I guess I will pack the machine up until we get moved and set up again.

TINA - I hope that solar plan works out for you. If you decide to do it, you should be well into it when we are passing through on our way home. I would wish that to be in about 3 weeks but it probably will be more like 5 weeks. We'll see how our trip south goes . . . . . Did you get your school house measurements worked out?

BECCA - glad you didn't have a very long grocery list. A friend sent Bill a picture of the milk case in Safeway at home. Nothing in it! Completely empty! Between the "normal" supply chain problems, the bad weather, and so many people out sick from the new variant, the store is nearly empty. Isn't it nice when the younger generation likes and appreciates the things we make and treasure!

LORI - glad to hear your son made it home OK. Is his house already sold or is it going on the market soon? We have friends (another Bill & Mary!) who sold their house in Concord near where Jana used to live. It was a little 2-BR, 1-Ba, 1200 sq feet several years ago and moved to St Louis. For the money they got out of their little CA house, they bought a 5-BR, 3-Ba 2-story brick home. Amazing the difference in price. I can't believe that poinsettia! I do remember seeing a 7-ft tall hedge of them in bloom somewhere a long time ago. At home they are just a seasonal plant that usually dies after the holidays.

JANA - congratulations to Aaron! Who's happier - Aaron or Aaron's mom?? lol! He is the purrfect fit for this job. My parents' basement was a gradual thing. They bought the property in 1940 and built a cabin, gradually adding to it. By the time I was old enough to remember things, (about 1954) they had a dirt cellar for the wood furnace, with a few caves dug out. With 6 kids, my dad's peace of mind was to dig in the evenings with a shovel, and wheelbarrow the dirt out about 500' to make a 'fill' away from the house. It took until my teen years before it was a fully finished basement, but he finally did it - all by pick and shovel. How is Sarah? I can't believe with Covid so rampant that anyone would go to a holiday party sick!! That would be the last gathering I attend with that group!!

CAROL - I truly thought I brought enough to keep me busy but I always underestimate. This happened last year, too, which is why I ended up buying a Norm and Nanette pattern - just something that would keep me in sewing. All that's left in my sewing cabinet is my crazy quilt and the Starry Night Nativity quilt. Then I'll just have to go home, I guess.

I'm not sure about supper tonite. We haven't decided yet. If the lettuce is still with us, it will be tacos. If not, I think we'll grill chicken. I dont' want to grocery shop until tomorrow because I want all fresh as possible for Saturday when A & A will be here. It will be our last time seeing her.

Have you got supper worked out yet?

Hi Mary. I have been away for a few days, but I am back again. Tonight we will have chop suey made with chicken. I made that for last night and we have plenty for a repeat tonight.

Mary, I answered your question about pattern I am using for quilt with African fabric. All the French wording is totally ????? to me, but the fabric is beautiful.
I am looking forward to tomorrow night. We have a dinner and dance with the Monday dance group. My brother and his lady friend are going to join us. That will make us, our dancing friends and my brother/ and friend. Should be fun!
Hope you all have a great day!
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Good morning!
Mary, you said your have the FGV book with you, make that! I remember you made one and gave it to your sister but did you ever make you one? If so maybe make a table topper or something with some of the patterns... or a wall hanging! I'll be here all day with ideas 🤣😂🤣😂
I was tired when we got home and after a short relax it was time to make supper, I made breakfast burritos LOL and I forgot about the school house oops maybe I can do that today between loads of laundry.
They'll start ASAP on the solar so you should be able to see it in progress, we decided to go with it!
Velda, that quilt and fabric sound beautiful! Your NYE dance sounds fun!
I have Dad coming for supper tonight, I need to go look in the freezer and see what I'll be making.

Mary, Jonathan sold his house and was out by the 2nd of December. He's house/dog/chicken sitting in Roy Utah now. It's really close to the house he sold. So the house we live in is 1,288 sq ft. They are selling in our neighborhood for $800,000. It's ridiculous. We do have a nice size backyard. If we sold here we could buy a really big house elsewhere.

Becca, thanks, he did. He hit a storm in Utah that wasn't expected.

Tina, FGV...lol. That's a lot of work, but would keep Mary busy the rest of her trip. Maybe. She's a fast sewer.

Vel, African fabrics are so pretty and very different. What pattern are you making?

Yesterday I opted to read. I did pull a few patterns and look them over. I'll finish up my book today, then try and sew. It's still raining here, so no walk for the boys until it stops. Wrigley is a sponge when it comes to water.

Dinner will be chili tonight.

Maryz - How nice for Tina to help you find the fabric! You can start now knowing more is on the way. Tina even gave you a suggestion for another quilt with a book you have with you. Bet you would need to go to a quilt shop for fabric!

Tina - You do need to rest and relax. Emptying a china cabinet and moving furniture to have the vents uncovered is going to be a big job!!

Becca - I went to the store this morning because I was worried they would be out of Great Northern beans, however they had plenty. They also had Navy Beans and just Northern beans. However I did get the last package of Corn Bread on the shelf. If they had been out of that I would have substituted Garlic-Cheese Biscuits. The stores have items out of stock sometimes for weeks at a time. They have been out of Medium Shells Pasta and Orange Sauce for weeks. Now they are also out of a hot sauce my DH likes. He found it at another store. I found the Orange Sauce at Target. Oh well what are you going to do? This isn't the first year things have been hard to find. Over the years I remember raisins and celery both being hard to find because of the weather. An early rain ruined the raisin crop and another year the celery was ruined by weather.

Vel - It is good to be you! Dance until at least midnight and have a wonderful time!!

Lori - So glad Jonathan made it to Utah safely. Driving in winter is certainly hazardous!

Tonight's dinner will be grilled chicken. It has rained all last night and all day today. Wherever this storm is headed be forewarned!! It is a doozy, but we really appreciate all the water.

Good evening!

Been busy, doing absolutely nothing! Very unproductive day. Aaron came over and drug the trash cans to the street. They are very full. It's the once a month trip to the curb. The little girlscame too and we're looking at my cook books. They have a favorite, Surprise Inside cakes. They picked out one they want me to make. We will see....

No word yet on Ethan's test. Sarah's in-laws are now running a fever. Ethan is still fine.

It's starting to snow here and soon the temps will drop.

Dinner - one last day of a meatloaf sandwich for Michael. Me, I m tired of them, so a bowl of cereal may do. I'm good with that. Sarah's stove has figured out it is being replaced, so now the stove top burners are acting up. She can't wait until the 6th of January.

So hopefully I won't be such a sloth tomorrow.

My house in Concord was 1250 Sq feet, on a 1/4 acre lot on the end of a cul-de-sac, first built in 1962, sold then for 12,000 and I just saw on Zillow that it sold again, since we sold it, for 875,000! That is so ridiculous! And there were no other improvements from what we did when we sold it to move here. They had pictures on the website of the interior, still the same. I now have just over 4000 Sq feet of house to clean, what was I thinking! ROFLOL!

Hugs,
Jana
