SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Dec 29th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Dec 29, 2021 5:03 am

Good morning,

We are 65* and foggy this morning. Everything is drippy wet from the fog. We'll be out in it in a few minutes, walking the park. Ugh. But we still do it - every single morning.

Yesterday I mailed off a couple of barns to Valerie for the Jan Lotto. What a cute idea she came up with. I'm already wondering what Feb is going to hold. I also hit the LQS and got quite a bit of clearance fabric and a paper-piecing book with 24 easy seasonal/holiday patterns. But I forgot to buy thread and I'm already running low so guess we need to go back. ;) Today, I'll finish up my little stars. I still need to do more but I've done all I brought with me. I pre-cut them at home. Come spring I'll cut and sew the rest.

JANA - so glad that light standard didn't hit anyone! In Seattle last year a power pole fell on a vehicle, injuring 3 people and because of stress fractures no one had previously detected, that pole took down an entire row of poles, like dominoes! Happy anniversary to Sarah and Joe. Matt's finishing his basement, too? Were none of your basements finished when you moved into your homes? Are you still on the fence about hot water heaters? When we visited Cindy and Sue, she said they have tankless and love it. I made a mental note to tell you that though I forgot to check my mental note list until now. Yay for Sarah's new stove!

TINA - that solar set-up sounds pretty sweet! It's all win/win! I hope it's not too expensive to put in, but then if you're paying a power bill anyway . . . . . I checked out that Nativity quilt and realized I dont' have 5 yds of backing fabric with me. I want to do a night sky and went back to the LQS where I bought 3 yds of the purrfect fabric a few weeks ago, but they were out of it. Sigh. I KNEW I should have bought the entire bolt! So for now I put that project back in my sewing drawer. But I also cast an eye to see if there were any appropriate buildings. Nope. But I happened to have Lori Holt's FGV book with me which is where I found my barns. If I run out of things to sew after we move further south, I might pull it back out and make a house or two, which is also in that book.

BECCA - So nice you have so much in common with Denise. My Lara and I have exact opposite tastes. So she wants nothing of mine (unless it belonged to my mom). Autumn's tastes are also down a different path from mine but she's sentimental so if it's mine, she wants it. lol!

LORI - you had quite a list for yesterday, but I loved it - Jack and Wrigley were #1 on the list! :D Did your son arrive home OK?

CAROL - good tip about unplugging the LA. We have surge protectors on everything, but I don't completely trust them. Many years ago lightening fried our big box TV. Kids were still home and not happy about that! Were you able to resize your house pattern? Tina said she had to do that, too, as she wanted to make 12" instead of 16".

Our supper tonite is going to be another Rice-a-Roni concoction. We're going to grill dinner sausages, slice them up and put them into the rice with some frozen peas. Bill loves Rice-a-Roni concoctions. We do all our cooking outside if possible. Keeps my kitchen/sewing room clean and free of grease!

What's on your menu for tonite?

Good morning!
We're 34° and cold! But way better than Mary's winter temps for sure!
Mary, Kevin was looking into a tankless water heater too, he lives in a double wide and as best we both could tell they don't make a non combustible gas one unless he converts to electric, which if he gets solar like he's talking about then that would work.
The solar systems are expensive but the feds and state pay over half of it in 2 and 3 years and the payment would be $75 less a month than our electric bill is now and my payment is set and would never go up. When it's paid off I won't have any electric bill payment. Plus in all but probably June, July and August we'd be producing more than we use and our electric company would be paying us 35 cents on the dollar for us sending electricity through the lines for others to use. And I'm really glad that Frankie doesn't have to do all that digging and installing of the AC units and I get a carport too! I'm really excited about it, Frankie seemed more comfortable about it after the consultant guy came yesterday and went through all the technical stuff with him, they were outside mostly checking all where everything's going and had to move where a couple things were thought to be going by the other guys on Tuesday. I think they're starting next week, it'll take about 7 weeks from start to finish and the very last is our electric company changing out our 1 meter to 2 meters to show how much we're putting back into their lines and how much we'll be using of their electricity.
I want a night sky too for that nativity quilt, I'll have to write that down so I don't forget.
Carol, I resized a 16" to a 12" but just thought up sizes that I thought would work, I didn't really break down the pattern and divide and do math..... although that might've been easier LOL. I can't figure out how to do triangles, I follow instructions and they look wonky to me and don't come out right with the side fabric to make it a rectangle 🤷‍♀️ I'm doing something wrong!
My plan today is to go to Cruces. The quilt shop I mostly shop at is having 30 to 50% off this week! I need turquoise fabric for the SBS quilt I'm doing out of the blocks that my aunt that passed away from covid made about 20 years or so ago. I'm finishing it for her granddaughter that another aunt asked me to do for her. I'll only be working on that after I do my houses for the lotto. I want to get it finished and sent back to them but I'm not going to rush it.
I've been wanting Chinese food again so I'm hoping that'll be supper tonight.

Mary, Jonathan did make it to his destination, but he said he drove through a really bad snow storm. He'd been checking the weather and it was not one that was predicted. It took him a bit longer. The furry ones are always first in this household. We're here solely for their needs. lol

Tina, your solar sounds like a good plan.

Becca, it's amazing how much things cost in different places. Here in Socal our property values are really high. So everything else goes up as well.

They boys have been walked. I didn't sew yesterday. I was reading and was just enjoying that. The R/O repair guy came by and fixed our drinking water system. Yay! We drink a lot of water, and buying bottled is expensive. He tested the bottled water and it was crap. It tasted funny to us. It says Arrowhead Spring water. However, he said they say that because all water comes from a spring somewhere. Good to know.
I think I'll sew today, but then I might finish my book instead. But first I need some breakfast.

Chicken soup for dinner. Maybe some cornbread to go with it.

Have a lovely day.

I saw these very large Poinsettia on my walk this morning. They were almost as tall as the houses./

Good afternoon!

Just got off the phone with Aaron. He walked in the Chief's office, dressed in his suit and tie, the Chief laughed and told him, that his mind was already made up to hire Aaron no suit needed. Now Aaron was told by the Chief to interview him on if Aaron would have Herriman. Yes! They had a good talk and Aaron starts on the 10th of January. No more frogger escapades on the freeways! The troopers will miss Aaron.. Less gray hair for me. Aaron has many skills the Chief wanted and needs. The city council just dumped the Emergency Management stuff on the police department. Just what Aaron just got his degree in! God's hand is very evident in this job! Aaron has been being prepared for this.

Dinner - something with meatloaf - again. I found two potatoes to bake, so will concoct something.

Mary - most houses here in Utah that come with basements are unfinished. If you want them finished by the builder it's a additional cost- and they do it their way. So we all finish them ourselves. Matt waited to see how he wanted the best use of the space. He's been in his house about 6 years now. Aaron's house doesn't have a basement, so he is not needing to do that. Now if and when Daniel moves here, we will start again. Most basements double the available living space in our houses.

Tina - we did a plan like that for a new furnace/AC in my California house. Sounds like yours is a w8n win for all. Scott and Sandee added solar panels on their house a year or so ago and it has cut their electricity bill dramatically.

Becca - quick errands out in the rain is a good thing, especially with Beth's bread involved.

Lori - wow - those poinsettia plants are huge! Glad Jonathan made it home safely.

Well, in between typing this, Sarah called. She is furious and frustrated. They were just about to leave for their anniversary trip, when her SIL called and informed Sarah that the BIL tested positive for C9VID. They were all at a family gathering on Sunday with that side of the family. The BIL wasn't feeling well, but came anyway. Turns out he exposed everyone , including Sarah and family. So now the trip is postponed and Ethan has a sore throat. They are isolating and getting tested today. Ethan has been vaccinated, so hopefully this will help. Sarah is still in her 90 days since she had it, so we hope that helps, as she can't be vaccinated. Uggh!

Well, stay safe,
Hugs,
Jana

Jana - Congratulations to Aaron!! Wonderful to have just received the degree they wanted. So sorry about Sarah! People just need to stay home if they do not feel well!! I would be equally frustrated. Hopefully, Sarah will not get it.

Lori - There is a large Poinsettia in our neighborhood too. Your neighbors is definitely older and just beautiful! We had one in our yard where I grew up in Garden Grove.

Maryz - You are running out of projects? How did this happen?? I thought you brought extra this year. Go get the thread and use your reward dollars. It is good to be you!

Becca - Anything with bread sounds great!!

Tina - I need to work on resizing the block. I wasn't as quick as I needed to be yesterday and just walked away. I do think the village needs houses. Solar sounds great, hope it works out and you get a cool sewing room in the summer.

Tonight's dinner will be Stuffed Pepper Casserole. I have a Zoom sew-in in just a few minutes, so gotta scoot.

Carol
