SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Dec 10

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Dec 10, 2021 3:38 am

Good morning,

We are 71* this morning at 0500 with 91% humidity. Going to mid-80's. This is just so wrong for 2 weeks before Christmas!

Yesterday was a full day. We suddenly decided to do laundry while we only had 2 loads instead of waiting until we had 4. Then I worked until 3pm finishing my Last LOTR Block. Finished! The last one! Hallelujah! Y'all are probably as glad as I am to hear The Last One! lol! Today I'll start putting the top together. We will also go to the grocery store for a few things. The kids are coming for supper tomorrow night and I hate braving the grocery store here on a weekend. So crowded. Tomorrow is big clean day. Time to vac, sweep, dust, and mop again.

I didn't make it to the big Zoom SS party last night because we were at Autumn's. Bill fixed her oven and then, to check his work, she popped a pan of stuffed manicotti in to bake. And insisted we stay for supper. Yum!

TINA - glad the Zoom meeting went so well last night. Sorry to miss it, but We'd already arranged our evening with Autumn based on their schedules. Sounds like your birthday supper at the Mexican restaurant was pretty tasty. Though I never have gotten beef in a salad. All the other meats, yes, but maybe it's because I'm just not much of a red meat eater.

JANA - I didn't know that 42 was the answer to everything in the universe. (from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe). I always thought 73 was the answer (from Sheldon Cooper of Big Bang Theory). lol! But yes, #42 is DONE. That didn't take long at all, did it!  Love your decorations - especially your choice of lights on your big tree! ;) I also love tamales. Have you ever made them? I gave it a try last summer and have the last of them in my trailer freezer for some night(s) when we're feeling Mexicany. They turned out fair. I will try it again one day. You already have those skinnies ready to sew down??! Speedy Gonzalez!

BECCA - I had to laugh when you said you have to hide cookies from CA. My Bill is the same way. Anything I bake is gone in a flash. Every time he passes the pantry he stops in for a cookie or two. He had the COSTCO sized bag of Halloween candy completely gone long before Halloween (I ate 3 pieces). I didn't bother buying any more. He'd have eaten that, too! He should be fat, but he's not.

IRISH - that is so funny about hiding the cookies in the basement and not noticing why the kids spent so much time down there! lol! You have snow?! And we'll be mid-80's today. Seems so wrong to wear my Christmas tee shirts with shorts! I think I'd be having a talk with my sister if I were you. That is, if you're speaking to her . . . I don't think I could come up with prizes that quickly! What is the party for? Family? Bingo? Community? Other? Did you finish the hoarder house? It doesn't feel like I've "whipped these blocks out". I started Aug 29 and except for 2 weeks off to make my brother's quilt, and 2 weeks to travel to TX, I've been at my machine an average of 4 or 5 hours a day every single day. Roughly 375 hours in making the blocks. Argghhh... I shouldn't have done that math!

LORI - I've never tried dying fabric before. What fabric did you start out with? Plain white? beige? Muslin?

VELDA - sending prayers, healing thoughts, and good vibrations with your today as you go for your cataract surgery. And thank you for being such a great Santa! I will get back to you later on that! Congrats on sticking to your healthy food plan. I rarely do that in restaurants. Bad me. I think homemade chili is even better the next day!

CAROL - oh, yes, I have no idea what things are in which parks. I've been to Disneyland twice in my life - 1984, 1988, and 2010. I think in '84 we also did Universal Studios and Knottsberry Farm. So happy you found your keys! Car keys nowadays are very expensive to replace. Bill always gets a copy made and then puts the "parent keys" in the safe for - well - safe keeping.

Since we were surprised to be invited to a manicotti supper at Aut's last night, we'll be having our chicken alfredo tonite. I think I'll add in saute'd onion, mushrooms, peas, bacon bits, parsley, and a few red pepper flakes. Bill loves these one-pot meals and they are so easy! We'll probably cook and eat outside.

What's cookin' in your brain to serve tonite?

Good Grief! I typed this all over in Sew In and actually thought I was posting here in Supper Club. LOL. I think I am a bit out of it today. LOL
So I copied it and shared it here, too. 😁☺️☺️

"Good early morning! Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. I am a little nervous, I too am saying my prayers that I will stay calm and remember all those who have told me it's a piece of cake. I trust that God is always with me. He will keep me calm.
Zoom was so fun. Miriam was there. That was so neat. And Mary Rose, and both Kathys, Chris's,Valerie,Tina, Izzy, MaryQ, Sharona, Me, and one more, who did I forget? Hmmm? Oh, yes, Beverly!
Mary, I sure hope your package was just what you hoped for. πŸ’•
I mailed so early to make sure you could be tempted and teased all the way to Texas. LOL

I can have clear liquids until 9:30am as my surgery position is afternoon. Have to be at hospital at 11:45. So I am enjoying my black coffee β˜•β˜• since I was told that plain black coffee is ok. πŸ˜‰
For supper, I am putting DH in charge just in case I feel a bit groggy yet. Left over chili is ready to just heat up. Fruit cups or applesauce for after.
Enjoy you day. Thanks for all the encouragement. πŸ’“πŸ’•πŸ’"

Good snowy morning!

The suns are out, literally, both of them. The big sun and Aaron. He was called in this morning as they needed to shut down all of I-15 , just south of me due to a layer of thick ice under the snow. That's 6 lanes of freeway, just on one side! Sarah dropped Gracie at school and has her side kick Lila, as Kate is on duty too. We don't know how long Aaron will be on duty. Oh, the main freeway over the mountain heading east is a mess tool. Like we say, welcome to Utah!

Dinner - Sarah had a few little red potatoes from the garden, so I will roast them and add a small cube steak and a salad.

Shortly heading to the Batt Cave. Santa skinnie is almost done and since the pattern is out, I will trace and do the snowman. He's cute too and has a mug of hot chocolate in his design. Will also work on CR and hopefully not too much frogging. My brain has a terrible time with 45 degree things,. Took me a long time to wrap my brain on how to miter corners with binding.

Mary - that was a great reward for Bill fixing the stove. Manicotti is a favorite here. We all laugh here with the number 42. When we lived in Concord, the house had a 42. As well as the house Michael grew up in, Sarah's house and Michael's sister's house. Now here, sadly there are no 42's in any of our houses.

Vel - the strides made in cataract surgery are so tremendous. I remember when my dad had that surgery and what he had to do for recovery. Prayers for a safe and successful surgery for you.

Tina - you might get part of this storm. So far it's a good one and we are getting more all day. I remember helping a friend do the embroidery with the machine on cuffs for stockings. We got it backwards several times - on practice pieces.

Sarah and Lila shoveled the driveway and sidewalks. Utah powder is very light and fluffy, so it shovels easily.

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning!
Kind of a quick slide in slide out of chair kinda day. We took Duncan and Rosie to the groomer, they go again on Christmas Eve and that's all for them.... their groomer is retiring on the 31st. Sadness πŸ˜” so in January Frankie will be putting me in a utility room sink big enough for them and a regular shower nozzle, those little sprayers don't have enough pressure for anything. I'll be their groomer full time. I'll just take them to their vet for nails if need be. The other groomers is town charged way too much! With what they charge in just 1 visit I can have my own stuff bought.
Mary, so glad the oven got fixed and even gladder that you got yummy supper out of the deal.
Vel, prayers for your surgery today.
Becca, Frankie eats 97% of the sweets here too and is a string bean....I guess I gain thre weight through osmosis!
Jana, I'm waiting for that moisture, rain, snow..... I'm not picky! I have 1 cuff done but will still do another practice on scraps to have as a visual aid too.
We're going to have sausage gravy with biscuits and fried potatoes and there's also salad. I haven't made that in forever it seems and it's one of Dad's favorites so he'll be very happy πŸ₯°

Tina, we bought a dog bath that stands at our level so we don't have to bend to bathe the dogs. It cost the same as taking them to the groomers one time. So worth it. We bathe outside. We usually have at least one warm day each month in the winter. But it is more work for you. That's the only down side.

Mary, Yay! I think this is the longest you've ever taken on a quilt. Can't wait to see it finished. I used 90 in muslin to dye. I bought it at Joann's for $5.99 a yard, on sale. It cost $26 to back 2 quilts and I love the colors.

Becca, I plan out when I dye fabric, so it's not messy. Plus, I put the containers on large rag towels in the backyard. That way if anything splashes or spills it's fine.

Jana, Jonathan is not missing the cold weather and icy roads at all.

I got one quilt quilted yesterday, and will bind it today. Maybe start on the other quilt.

Dinner will be chicken, mashed potatoes and broccoli.

Have a lovely day.

Hi everyone. Surgery went well. It was about 2pm. So my evening is going to be wearing my dark glasses while watching TV. Eyes still very dilated, so lamp light is overpowering. Makes it more comfortable to wear dark glasses.
Sure do get lots of drops throughout all the prep. Whew!
Experience was not bad. I had such jitters, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.
Thanks for your prayers.
I go for follow up examine first thing in morning (8:15).
Have a nice evening.

Good Afternoon,

Vel - So glad to hear your surgery went well. Prayers continue for tomorrow morning.

Jana - Your story about icy roads is why Lori's son is glad not to be in Utah.

Lori - It is a lot of work to bathe a dog, glad you have something to make it a little easier.

Tina - So glad to hear your Zoom went well! It sounds like everyone who joined really enjoyed it. Everyone mentioned getting to see one another's face, but they also heard one another! It must have been so much fun!!

Becca - I was really glad that Disneyland found the car key! It really paid to have a key chain attached. It had my initial. Add my DH to the list of husbands who eat all the sweets too!

Today I had my Bone Density test. Hopefully, I am done until January now, unless the Dermatology wants to see me again. I finished my Christmas cards and am ready to mail them. I need to go to the Guild PO Box to pick up mail so tomorrow I will do both. The lobby is open, but the PO is closed which makes parking a little easier.

Tonight's dinner will probably be fast hash. I forgot to thaw chicken yesterday.

Carol
