SUPPER CLUB = Friday, Jan 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Jan 22, 2021 6:56 am

Good morning!

We are 41' and cloudy here but going to a sunny 45' later today! No rain today or tomorrow but it's still damp out due to fog. Lots of yard work to do but I haven't felt too moved to do it. It will wait. It always does.

My confuser finally arrived! Hooray!! And it seems to be working well. That Fed Ex truck driver really poured on the coal the last few days! Bless him!

I got my embroidered bird blocks all together yesterday. Today I'll make my backing and it will be ready to quilt when it's number comes up. Right now, counting this new one, I have 7 tops to quilt. A couple of them will be Bill's to do, but he's busy doing other Bill stuff right now, so his tops are getting shoved to the back burner.

BECCA - I believe you are right that all the cards, phone calls, and letters have really helped to heal Kathy. She only has her sister close by and the sister can't visit because of Covid. She is lonesome. Knowing people care is the best medicine in the world. Would love a taste of your spaghetti sauce. I always add a tiny bit of sugar and a pinch of cinnamon to mine. A trick my BFF taught me decades ago.

IRISH - If anyone can pull off synchronizing airport arrivals, it's your Kathy! I've learned to have faith in her! I really hope your trip to FL works out this time. Are you going to get the vaccine and if so, will you have it before you go? How is our little Eaglet today?

CHICKIE - so happy to see you here! Even your relaxed days are full-on busy! Happy birthday to your DGS. Is this Briar? (love that name). I'm sure he loved coming home to his cookie! Sorry it's not warmer for you. But if you didn't have January and February, you might not appreciate March and April so much. All my bulbs are up! I planted 50 tulip bulbs last fall and they all 'took' except for what the squirrels might have dug up. But we have snowflakes in our forecast for next week. WE'll see if they really happen. They usually fizzle or end up being just a quick ground-whitening and then turn to rain.

JANA - sorry about the hiccups in the Batt Cave. Hope it's all done soon. I don't think a quilting stool would work for me - I do a constant, slow, side step as I quilt. As for the computer, we bought it at Costco. We paid extra for 'insurance' to repair anything that happened that isn't covered by the 2-yr warranty Costco offers with purchase. We were traveling so there was no coming to our house to repair. It had to be sent to Houston where they do repairs. Bill talked to them at least 8 times and it was always a different person in India. And every single person told us something different every single time, and every single thing we were told turned out to be wrong. It was very frustrating!

TINA - the recipe you describe is a lot like one I got from my friend here. It's delish! I like to change furniture around, too. Moreso in my younger years. To me it's just part of a good thorough cleaning. Michael used to swear he'd come home from work one day and go to sit down in his chair and land on the floor! But now my back and I are older and changing things around has to involve Bill and, while he's willing to help, he doesn't see the point. So I do it a lot less than I used to.

Stirfry last night was excellent and we pigged it all down. No leftovers. So tonite I'm moving on to a similar dish my sister wanted to make for us while we were in Texas, but that never happened. Onions, cabbage, and kielbasa all fried together. How bad can it be?

Good morning!
We dropped Duncan and Rosie off for their spa day. When we get home laundry will be started and then I'm making pillow cases to match Jazmyne's horse quilt that I've never gotten the binding on. I can't remember which fabric I'm using for binding so figured if I make the pillow cases first then I'll know which one is left is for the binding. I'm hoping to get that to her this weekend.
Mary, I totally forgot to take the pic of the recipe, I'll try to remember when we get home. Sorry about that. Frankie used to say the same thing about the furniture when he'd get home LOL I was always doing something. He's the same as Bill, he could help but he doesn't see the point 😂🤣 plus he hates for me to do things that gets my back down. He's starting to help more around the house.
You sure have a nice stack of quilts to quilt ❤
Jana, I'm looking forward to seeing your redo in the bat cave! I was telling Frankie about it and he was wishing we could do something for me but my room is so small. We even talked about taking a bed out of a spare bedroom but we still use it for grands and I'm not willing to give them staying over up, he's not either.
I think I'll make tacos for supper, it's been awhile.

Good morning!

Leaving in a few minutes to collect our stuff from IKEA. Then return thefloor samples, except the one we want and stop off at a small family owned flooring shop. I like to work with shops like that rather than the big box stores. And not Home Depot after the fiasco with Sarah's flooring. Then home to finish Emma's dress.

I can finish Emma's dress on the new desk area that was put in yesterday. The desk area is a tad under 10 feet in length . My desk is under my big east window, same as before, then a cubby that a cabinet rolls in and out, that the top is my ironing station. Last is a area for a second machine and person to sew. Our handyman has it all installed, but wants to beef up the corner support under that area, just to make it very sturdy. Heck, now you could park a Mac truck on it, but he is quite good, ands wants more. Monday he will be back to set the island cabinets. We are waiting on the countertop for a few more days. Tim, the handyman, will need Aaron's help to carry the top in, as well as Sarah and Joseph. Aaron's day off is a Thursday, so hopefully then. But we have to wait to make the final hole cut for my sewing machine, as it is still at the shop. So while we wait for that, Tim will paint my bedroom, as the bed will be here first. Busy, busy, busy here. After we warm up a bit, the door to my deck from the kitchen will get changed. After careful consideration, the deck will stay the same. It is just us, so I don't need all the space we wanted to add. If the kids are all here for dinner, we will eat on the grass back there.

Tina - my chair that I quilt with, looks like a regular Windsor style oak chair, just taller. The seat swivels, so I can keep it close to the bars of my LA. Turn the chair to get on and off as I need. The base stays still. I work my way, usually side to side of a quilt, moving the chair down the length, as needed. Then back again. I keep a small wooden box as a foot rest under there too. My LA frame from Handi Quilter is adjustable in height from the floor, so it is adjusted for Sarah to stand at, she's 5'5", which the LA height for me and my chair work perfectly together. One toy I have is the batting hammock from Handi Quilter . It doesn't quite fit my frame perfectly, but we made adjustments to make it work. Keeps my Batt contained and off the floor. I am still trying to learn to use the groovy boards. Need to figure out how to register each section as I roll the quilt. My brain hasn't wrapped itself around how to do that. I should see if there is a class up where Handi Quilter's factory is, up in SLC. They have classes there all the time.

Mary - no sign of my bulbs popping up yet. They are still waiting on snow. So are we! You will have those 7 UFO'S finished in no time.

Now on to dinner - polenta and sauce. Michael wants a chunky marinara and I want smooth. Humm, isn't that what food processors are for? Make his, blend mine after. Win Win!

So far, we can't get our shots. Here in SLC County, it's still walk in with appointment, no appointments available until mid March, if you are over 70, which I am not, so we have to wait. Michael is eligible, but not me. Even with my birthday coming up, I am still not.

Time to call Sarah so we can leave,

Stay Safe!
Hugs,
Jana

I got it in California about 12 years ago. It is just a oak swivel seat barstool. The place was called California Stools and Dinettes. But any place that sells chairs and dining room sets would have something similar. We have one here called Furniture Row and they sell oak furniture. They do come in different barstool heights.

I always thought you were tall, like me. Things we learn!

Mary, how big is the bird blocks/quilt? You're just whipping quilts out like crazy these days.

Becca, my spaghetti sauce is never the same either. I use fresh herbs from the garden. So it's whatever is available. No sugar though. I can taste the sweet even with just a small amount, and I don't like it.

Tina, I like making pillow cases to match my quilts too. It uses up the excess fabric.

Jana, Your sewing space is going to be so nice.

We were supposed to have carpet put into our spare bedroom, formerly FIL's room. His dog peed all over the carpet and we didn't know for weeks. I walked in there one day and smelled the pee. It was too saturated to get it out. So I ordered new carpet. They showed up, removed the carpet, then said they didn't have enough for the space. The carpet dealer even came out and measured. So I'm a bit irritated.
I called the store and they need to order more from Georgia. So now we're looking at a couple more weeks, and an ugly concrete floor with black glue leftover from original tile.

I did get my walk in with Jack after they left. I also did some grocery/pet food shopping. Now I think I'll go sew a bit.

For dinner we will have Chili.

Have a lovely evening.

Lori - that may be a blessing - now you can bleach the heck out of that floor to make sure all the smell is gone!
