SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Aug 5th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Aug 05, 2020 6:01 am

Good morning,

We made it to Seattle and back yesterday - actually, north of Seattle near Kirkland where head of Costco is located. Bill's appt was quick, mole was nothing to concern the doc, but he did freeze it. We were home by noon. After lunch Bill did a little quilting on my R/W/B quilt and I started cutting fabrics for a new baking-themed Christmas project for my DGS whose passion is baking. It's by Kimberbell, called "We whisk you a merry Christmas". Takes about 40+ fabrics, but only little pieces - all applique. I can pull most of them from my stash, but will need to order a few, I think, for borders and backing. It's 38" sq which, I think is an awkward size - too big for wall hanging but too small for quilt. So I'm considering enlarging it with pieced borders. I also did some rearranging in my kitchen cabinets - moved the pans closer to the stove, put seldom used baking dishes on lower, pull-out shelves. I probably will be opening wrong cabinets for a few months, but now I have more space and I think work will flow better.

This morning I have a routine eye appt and this afternoon we're doing happy hour at friends'. I also plan to finish cutting for the new project and I hope Bill finishes the R/W/B so I can bind it. I found a small iron on applique of American flag, so it will be purrfect on the label of this quilt. Laundry is starting to mound up again and the sheets need washing. So there is no lack of 'entertainment' for me today.

IRISH - those are a lot of good authors! I've read many of them, though admit my tastes run a little lighter the last few years. Sounds like you are buckling up for a whirlwind week!

BECCA - glad the storm didn't get you! My DD's library is "open" to the extent that people can order books for pick-up, but patrons aren't allowed to come inside. And on the days she's actually at work, only 4 staff are allowed in the building at one time. I have plenty of real books of my own for "in-hand reading", but I download my audio books to my i-pad so no need to go into the library itself. I'm not sure if our library is even open.

TINA - your house is really getting into ship-shape! I love having more room in cabinets. Is this summer hotter than usual for you?

JANA - I don't like a lot on my countertops either, but nevertheless, a lot is there - cannisters, paper towels, toaster oven, coffeemaker, mixer, fruit bowl, napkin holder, phone, dog food cannister, treat containers, and the Keurig. We never use the Keurig but Bill insists we have it and keep it handy in case he wants an afternoon cup of coffee next October. :x

CAROL - variegated threads, because of the dyes, run thick/thin/thick/thin which messes with machines. I love the look of it, but we don't use it anymore here because of the problems it was causing us.

Our orange chicken last night was good. The recipe called for hoisin sauce, which I've never bought, so looked it up and made my own. Bill liked it but he didn't care much for the purchased frozen popcorn chicken I used. So I might try doing my own next time. Might. Or maybe I'll tell him to make the chicken and then I'll do the rest. He might like the store-bought better then! Since we'll be happy=houring out today I doubt we'll need supper but if we do, I have leftovers from last night.

Hope your supper is a good one!

Good morning!
Mary, I'm glad the mole was nothing. Frankie has a Keurig and he loves it but he keeps his old coffee pot for when he's in the mood for different LOL it's one thing that will go on my new shelves. I don't have very much cabinet space and wish we didn't have anything on them either but we have the very well used bread box.... it should be called Frankie's Little Debbie Snack Box 🤣😂, my Kitchenaid mixer, the canister of granola bars, banana tree, spice rack, turn table, Keurig, knives, canister set and dish drainer. I have taken everything off and love it like that but my table was full where I sat everything LOL
Mary, yes we are way hotter this year and for a longer period too, our triple digests usually are in July and August, they started in June this year and we've had way too many of those days!
I read your orange chicken recipe last night but when I read the frozen popcorn chicken part I passed LOL
On the 38" square We Whisk You a Merry Christmas, what about making that the center and then doing Christmas Log Cabins or something around it to make it throw size at least?
Becca, I'm a puddle all the time too. You've really been busy this morning, I need to catch up!
I'm not sure about supper yet, probably something with chicken since I have more chicken than anything else, maybe I'll make fajitas with it.

Good morning!

What to cook, what to cook - I will have my kitchen back tonight! We ordered the sealer for curbside pickup from Home Depot. Just waiting to hear we can go get it. Like the old Mervyn's commercials - open open open!

Cut out a bunch of the potholders pieces parts. I have all five of the fruit fabrics cut and ready to sew. At least seven pies from each fabric. Even found a bright lemony yellow in my stash to make a lemon pie! I just need to cut a bunch of batting into circles to go with the insulbrite. Oh, I still have plenty of fruit fabric to make many more.

Not much here. We are cooler - hope to stay just under 100. No rain, just heat. 98 is better than 107!

Mary - glad you made it through Seattle. Many moons ago, we drove some of those freeways - no fun! Good for Bill too. We need to get eyes checked here, but the appointments are hard to get.

Becca - with all that rain, everything will be lush and green! Too bad the weeds grow too!

Tina - yummy - fajitas! We too are always hot in July and August. Hopefully some hurricanes will blossom up over in the Baja area of California. That will cool us off and give us rain too.

Well, time for breakfast around here, cheerios here I come,
Hugs,
Jana

I have always wanted to try making ice cream. I don't have an ice cream freezer, but I did it in my refrigerator/freezer. It worked. I made chocolate.

Tonight's dinner will be marinated, grilled pork chops. I caught the last 10 minutes of an old Martha Stewart program and a chef with an Italian background made a marinade. He used orange juice and Lemon juice the zest from both, added oil, garlic and rosemary. I will let you know how good it was tomorrow.

I feel like I have been in the kitchen a lot today. I did get to the meat market today so like Lori said I have lots of choices now!

My chicken fajitas turned out being the best I've ever made 😊
