SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, July 18

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Jul 18, 2020 6:25 am

Good morning!

We are going to have a beautiful day here - 78* and mostly sunny. I should go do a little yard work. And a little house work. There's a lot of things I SHOULD be doing. I hope no one's holding their breath on those things! Yesterday I did clean out a box of old embroidery floss, and I made some progress on my Christmas swap blocks. Oh - and I ran a few essential errands. Felt funny to be out without Bill, driving myself. We tend to do everything together. I was birthday shopping for him. His big day is Monday.

So today, I'm going to work some more on my blocks, maybe make a few blocks on my QOV quilt, which is all cut out but I haven't started sewing yet. I'm also organizing a small embroidery/X-stitching kit for the trailer, and I should clean bathrooms, and plan a birthday dessert for Bill. He'd probably like apple crisp the best.

Not sure the multi-agency visit to Vicki yesterday did any good. Her SIL, Ben, is frustrated. He provided each of the four people with a fat folder with all medical records, sheriff reports, orders, violations, pictures, videos, formal complaints, witness accounts, our journal, and more. Perhaps after they have time to review all that - IF they do - they will reconsider. In the meantime, Ben is doubling his efforts to challenge the ruling from last week that Vicki is OK on her own. It's called "Joel's Law" - the ability to challenge. Vicki's kids are burned out so he has taken up the fight.

BECCA - I had to chuckle - you said you were ripping your periwinkle out and I'm encouraging mine to grow! And it's doing a good job! Scottie loves it, as did Snickers. Makes for a soft place for a dog to lie. Lay? (I never get that right!)

IRISH - your realtor is really treating you extra special! When I bought my house - back in 1986, mine gave me a towel rack! Any update on Scout? Poor Terry - I'm feeling for him and saying a prayer for Scout. I hope your friend finds just the right home for her. When you say the house she looked at is a few streets down, do you mean in your neighborhood, or down the road a few streets and in a different neighborhood? Twenty bucks! You lucky!! You have been quite the gadabout lately. Are you sure Baby Girl is getting all the attention she needs?? And you know - that pie sounds good. Maybe Bill would like something like that for his birthday . . . .

JANA - love the Kate's Cookies story! Who doesn't have a story like that in their history?! lol! Did they taste the cookies? Maybe she invented an edgy new recipe!

LORI - it must be so hard for you to watch the advance of your mom's dementia over the years. How is she doing? Still able to be at home, isn't she? At least we are only witnessing a neighbor/friend. Your mini- quilting retreat sounds like it was more fun that a big, full-fledged one!

Last night's supper was as billed - ham, scalloped potatoes, and green beans. There is plenty left for a reheat tonite only I think the veggie will be peas or broccoli.

How is your supper plan going?

Mary, fingers crossed they read all your documentation and do something for Vicki. Having her living with garbage and rats is no way to live.

Becca, what flowers did you cut? I have roses in the front yard that I love to cut and bring in the house.
We used to have roses in the back, but Jack, our black lab, likes to eat the buds. So the few in the back got moved to the front with the others.

I really don't know how my mom is doing with her dementia, because I haven't seen her since early March.
I know that she doesn't talk on the phone any longer, so that has changed. My FIL is also exhibiting signs of dementia. They think it was caused by his lack of O2 when he was failing, and also possibly due to the anesthesia from his valve replacement.

I'm off to a quilt run with friends today.

For dinner I think we'll do chili or burgers on the grill.

Have a lovely day.

Good morning!

Not much going on here. I have groceries to put away. Already called Sarah to come get her stash. Then I will play in the Batt Cave.

Dinner last night was changed by Ethan. He called and wondered if I had any of my good meatballs. Yes, so I made a batch of polenta and served them with the extra sauce. He was a happy camper! So salads will be tonight.

We got the results back from Michael's CT scan. All is very good, a very clean scan. Only a small amount of scar tissue on a kidney, most likely from a small stone passing not long ago. We are very happy!

Mary - love the kitty christmas bl8ck. It doesn't take much to fall asleep here in front of the TV either! Hoping that the Vicki drama gets a good response, she needs the help for her safety and maybe a better quality of life in these waning years.

Lori - what fun - it is always better to RIP mistakes when someone is there to commiserate with you.

Becca - I love fresh cut flowers in the house, but also want tons of flowers in my yard, so I have a hard time trying to decide which is better! LOL!

Irish - when we moved into this home, all the builder/agent gave us was the keys - which we paid for very handsomely! Oh, they also let us know we had about three hours before the water was shut off and we had to arrange to keep it on ourselves. :D

Well, better get the rest of last night's shopping trip put away. All that was wiped down and put away last night, was the cold stuff. Can't decide if I like the dawn patrol run, or the midnight raid at the grocery store.

Stay safe,
Hugs,
Jana

Good afternoon from a very hot, very bad "breathing" day, here in SW. Pa...The hot doesn't bother me but sometimes you do need to breathe...Other than doing laundry and putting things on my rack on the side porch, I'm inside until much later......

Mary, It would be very frustrating for you and Vicki's family, knowing she needs help but being stopped at every bend, it seems...Some of those laws should be changed out there..... I too smiled at Becca and the periwinkle...I don't think I've ever dug out anything that looked like it had a flower on it, weed or "real" flower..And, the other day, when my realtor, Kim, was here, she said, her hubby is the same way, he won't throw any plant away, brings home any left overs from jobs and will nurse them back to health...Some of the bushes he brought here were from his yard that he "just had growing"...But, he has won several awards for his flowers and designs....
Talked to Terry and Scout is a little better, now eating canned food and drinking more....Terry bought lumber to build a ramp off their back deck so Scout doesn't have to do steps...I remember way back when he was in NC and his Tasha was "leaving" and how, he slept on the floor beside her and kept telling her it was OK and she passed in his arms...It's so hard to see your kids, no matter how old they are, go through this...You don't have to worry about Baby getting enough attention, even Andy, the grass mower, comes by to see her...But, you'd laugh, when I come in late, she does meet me at the door "with that look".....
And the home my friend is moving into is just 2 streets away from me, in the same park...And she did tell me, there might be some "big $$" in it for me for referring her....Can always use another $1.98....
The dessert last night wasn't one of my favorites but the gals liked it...I love apple crisp and almost made that for them...Next week might be an apple braid....If Bill likes gooey desserts, he'd like that Éclair pudding thing...

Becca, sounds like you had a busy morning and deserve that break....I too like the fresh flowers but never fails, when I have them, no matter where I sit them, a little fur baby will decide to nimble so best I leave them outside...My favorite would be bringing in lilacs and how just 1 little vase full would send that smell all through the house..

Lori, So sorry to hear about your FIL...It's such a sad, awful thing to go through and watch....I've often thought, my experience with Jim was so easy compared to some that I hear...It was heartbreaking but it was something you get through....And one thing I'm really thankful for, he always knew who I was, right up until the end...Of course, there are times, I still look at his picture on the wall and "give him heck" for leaving me, lol.....
And I also love roses, years ago, we had so many and when we were selling our 1st house, I wanted to transplant some at the new house but Jim felt, they would help sell the house...I did take a couple but when the new people moved in, their dogs completely destroyed all the bushes...
Hope you had a fun, fun quilt run with your friends......

Jana, so happy to hear the news about Michael's scan...What a relief! You know, you're going to go down in history as the "bestest Grandma"...I miss having the kids call and ask "what's cooking"?...I often think, if our Cindy were still here and me living so close, I'd be calling her and asking...She was a fantastic cook, not afraid to try anything, bless her soul......

Well, as I said, not moving too much today...Of course it couldn't be that I was out very late last night and didn't get to bed until almost 2:30..Thank goodness my sister is only 4 minutes away...She did ask if we were getting together again tonight but I might beg off, maybe...Doesn't she know, I'm old and can't take all this partying???Besides, my clothes are starting to shrink from all the snacks....Just this morning, BabyGirl and I had a talk about our bellies getting bigger and maybe we should do something about it.....For dinner, I'm having a salad, not sure what she might agree to.....

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Happy eating...................
