Supper Club--Thursday, 11 June 2020

Post by FarmChick » Thu Jun 11, 2020 7:38 am

Good morning! I thought I made it to the table yesterday, but it must have been my imagination. We were windy much of the day as well as the night before, and the internet was spotty.

Can you stand another farm story? Yesterday when I went out to see if Covid was ready for “lunch” around 2 p.m., I called for him. I thought I heard him answer from back where he usually hangs out. I called again and heard him closer from another direction. He had gone across the cattle guard into the big pasture to play with his friends, but he knew the “dinner call” and came running—licking his lips as he came. Last evening near his regular supper time, he came to the front steps and started calling for me in very insistent tones. I hollered through the window that I’d fix his dinner and be out in a minute. I made his bucket of milk replacer and went out to deliver it. When I got to his pen, he was already inside pacing and prancing, licking his lips for me to get that bucket hung on the fence. He sucks it down in less than five minutes and leaves no dregs.

I worked on my drunkard’s path blocks yesterday and have them half finished. The rest have the 16 pieces prepared and ready to sew. I want to finish them so I can move on to a couple more projects.

The new great grandson is a cutie. Mom and baby are doing great, and the family is totally delighted with His Highness!

Becca—isn’t it great to have sons and grandsons to call when needed! We have them here, too. They are wonderful! I always enjoy hearing of your goodies! I have pear pie here, but I made it.

Jana—I have those “fussy” days. I work and work, and it seems I get nothing done yet I’ve been busy all day. I like your dinner! Ha, ha—if Mom says no time to bake Grandma is ready! I’m sure he was happy and Sarah got some work time. It’s neat to have items that have been handed down through the generations. And, things don’t seem to be made as well as they used to be.

We had a cooler day yesterday at 80 degrees. There was also wind although 40 mph gusts were too much! Today is sunny, going for 80, and the pond is mirror smooth. We always seem to go from too much to too little—wind or rain, and too high or too low for temperatures here.

MaryZ is out of her canyon, so she may make an appearance at the table today. Her brother is in the hospital again, and I know she would appreciate a prayer for him.

Dinner tonight will be again my favorite—leftovers. We have several selections—cheeseburgers or roasted veggies with chicken and beef chunks. And… pear pie for dessert. Not starving here by any means!

Bon appétit!

Good afternoon from a warm, slightly overcast, SW. Pa....We had rain yesterday and it was enough rain to last a couple of days....Really rained very, very hard and seemed to hit a different side of the house, really strange...But, at least I didn't have to water the plants last night.....

Chickie, so happy to see you fix the table....I'm not sure what happened to yesterday either, I honestly thought this was Wednesday...I'm back to pulling more floss and now can't decide on which pattern I want to do...I'd like to make something for my realtor and her husband (who is my landscaper) and found 2 patterns. One is a basket filled with flowers, veggies and some tools, with Everything Grows with Love across the top...The other has flowers, bees and butterflies across the middle and at the top, Friends and Flowers and at the bottom Delight the Heart......I had made the 2nd one for a friend and she keeps it displayed on a stand in her living room....Such decisions, right?????
I love, love your farm stories...I was always so excited when we had the calves but then so sad when they went away and at that time, couldn't understand why they went....Maybe that's why I have a hard time with beef or really any other kind of meat....Even today, when I pass cows in a pasture, I say a little prayer for them....OH my enough of that....
Pear pie, I don't think I've ever had pear pie but I'm sure I'd love it.....
The other day, I went to a friend's house for lunch...She did warn us that she had never made the soup or the salad before but it was delish...And for afters she had the mini puff pasty cups and filled them with sweetened cream cheese and bits of strawberry....Oh my heavens was that good and just a bite.....This friend loves to cook but has no one to eat it so I volunteered, anytime!

Mary, so sorry to hear your brother is back in the hospital....Will be joining the others with lots and lots of prayers......

Becca, it is great to have those sons and grandsons...I'm so fortunate to have 1 of mine living just 3 minutes away...When he came over the other day, he rode his Harley...Probably took him longer to get it out of the garage than it did to get here....He used to be a runner and if it wasn't for having a bad knee, he'd probably be running over...
What an absolute treat to have your miracle babies visit....Really hard to believe they are 10 months old already.....

Not much else happening in my neck of the woods...In fact, still trying to figure out how I lost a day, lol.....
As for dinner, maybe a grilled cheese or that poached egg and toast...I've found, when I don't do much, sure can't build up an appetite, lol.....

You all have a great rest of the day...............

Happy eating....................

Good afternoon!

Just got home, wiped down all the groceries and put it away. Still will have to run out tonight to another store to get what this store didn't carry. It is another online order, so just drive up and they bring it out.

Mary - prayers for you, your brother and his family.

Chickie - being a city girl, now living in the semi country, I love farm stories. I keep telling Michael I want a horse - a clydesdale! He smiles, he is getting me one, a small stuffed one for my Christmas sleigh that sits on my kitchen table.

Irish - sounds like your family is about as far as Sarah. That 3 minutes is about how long it takes Ethan to ride here from his house. I have perfected the 4 minute egg and toast for Michael. Me, the egg has to be totally cooked!

Becca - oh I agree on shopping is no longer fun! We have a system at my house to get it in, cleaned and put away. Same with the mail.

Dinner - leftovers from last night or bbq's chicken legs and macaroni salad. Depends on if M8chael gets into the leftovers.

Not much else here. The weather is perfect, but heading to hot. That's OK, as I have A/C and large windows to look outside and enjoy the views.

Hugs,
Jana
