SUPPER CLUB - Friday, May 29th
Good morning,
We had such a nice day yesterday. Kind of long though - 350 miles. We didn't get home until 7pm. Our plan had been to go east over Chinook Pass and come back west over White Pass ( U.S. Hwy 12), but we got halfway up towards Chinook and realized that it was still closed for winter. So it took us 1-1/2 hours to wiggle our way south, via back roads, to White and use that route both directions. But we did have a nice picnic lunch nestled along a river in the pine woods up in the mountains. Weather was purrfect. Had a short visit with a lifelong friend in Yakima, and on the way home, stopped to drop something off for Albert that our friend wanted him to have. We were going within a few miles of his house anyway. We stayed only 5 minutes, standing in the driveway. He is home from the hospital, but looks frail and weak. But at least I got to see him in person. It's been 7 months since our last visit.
Funny thing about the Yakima friend, Danny, though. My brothers were all teenagers when I was born. Danny was one of their crowd and our parents were also friends. Well, turns out in Bill's past life before I ever met him, he and Danny were next door neighbors for many years and they didn't like each other AT ALL! Imagine Bill's (and Danny's) surprise when we started dating and they came face to face with each other at a family party! lol! They are friendly now, but I'm not sure they actually LIKE each other. Danny is like an older brother to me, but he's definitely one of those love him or hate him kind of personalities. I happen to love him.
This morning is chiropractor and then a guy is coming to buy our old car for his daughter. After that - who knows - I think I'll decide what project is next on my list and start kitting it up. We are leaving June 4th for a camping trip. It's going to be 4 days here, 3 days there, 2 days someplace else, 5 days in Oregon, and so on. We'll be gone for about 2-1/2 weeks. I'm going to need something to sew.
BECCA - I love impatients and used to plant a lot of them. And they are one flower that will grow on our deck now that it has a roof and less sunlight. But I just haven't gotten to them in recent years.
JANA - for sure this year is a strange one for our grads. There are a few yard signs on our morning walk routes touting their resident seniors. I've been writing a card and enclosing $10 and tossing them onto the porches of the graduates' homes. They deserve something, even if it's from strangers walking their neighborhood!
IRISH - Oh, the memories of life gone by . . . I have a few of those as well. And how nice to have your niece's friend be your neighbor! I remember you telling us about her. Is she actually on the transplant list and is waiting or is she trying to get on it? Our Oregon friend, Betsy, eventually got on it and then waited for a year. They lived in a trailer near SEattle, waiting for that call, as the transplant was performed at U of WA. She has done very well, though, after 8 years, is beginning to slide downhill.
LORI - I iron what needs to be ironed and nothing else! Most of my stuff is knitty fabric or tee-shirty. By design. lol! I can picture your back yard - covered patio, couch (with cats and at least one dog), grass, flowerbeds, and now a planter full of impatients! You must have your own little oasis.
Supper tonite is going to be a big chef's salad out on the deck. And I made a maple walnut cake a few days ago and we have some of that left for afters. What is tempting you tonite?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, May 29th
Good morning from a partly sunny, warm, SW. Pa....Just not sure what Mother Nature has in mind for us today but whatever is good as long has it's not snow........
Mary, sounds like your day, yesterday, was a good one...And so happy you were able to see your brother....How funny about Bill and his next door neighbor...Boy, you never know what might happen or who you might end up with, right.......Just the other day, in going through a box, I found my old memory book that I had when I had broken my leg, way back in 1950....And looking at all those little poems etc. really had me laughing..BUT, the best was from Jim and at that time, I sure didn't think we'd end up together...Aw, memories! The friend with the problem is trying to get on the transplant list and they are really giving her a rough time....So many of her doctors will OK her but there is always that one who will do something to halt the process...We're afraid if they wait too long, it will be too late...
Baby Girl and I were up early but still haven't done anything....While I read the paper and have my coffee, she goes back for another nap and as soon as she hears me move, she's ready for the day...Not sure what she thinks we're going to do today....Did some digging yesterday for the rest of the marigolds I want to put in so maybe that will get done today...My hands and nails are really looking rough but I can't get into wearing gloves..Oh well, I'm not going anywhere where that I need pretty nails......
As for dinner, might be another salad...The one last night was really good so why not try it again tonight.....Either that or I'll put something in the crock pot and hope for the best, lol.....Usually when I cook, Kevin gets all the left overs so maybe I should call him and ask what he's hungry for......
You all have a great day......stay safe......
Happy eating..................

Mary your salad sounds like a great idea for supper. Maybe that will be on the menu here as well. It is going to be too hot to cook unless we grill.
I am still working on the yard and outside projects, trying to make the outside look "pretty".
have a great day,
Mary/Rosebud

Good morning!
Late here this morning. Been busy. Our new Dish receiver arrived and Michael will hook it up later. We have to head over to the Dr's office who does the colonoscopy. Michael has to be tested for Covid and then be quarantined until after the procedure which is next week. So all family will stay away. It will be hardest on Ethan, he is here almost everyday. But it will all be over and done with shortly! We hate having things hanging over our heads, especially this, since March.
Not much going on here. Dinner might be a rerun of last night. Still have lots of cucumber sauce and another zucchini.
Mary - yes, being up high has it perks! Glad you got to see your brother too. Most of our trips are on the back roads, more things to see.
Gotta scoot, Sarah just showed up,
Hugs,
Jana

Mary, sounds like you had a nice trip yesterday. I bet it was great to see Albert. That sure is a funny story about Bill and Danny. I do like our back yard. There's lots of room for the boys to run.
That's one of the main reasons we never moved. It's all about the furry kids in this house.
Jana, bummer you have to quarantine after the procedure. I guess better to be on the safe side.
Irish, my nails look terrible too. I was thinking I should cut them before my trip to Illinois. We'll be packing and moving stuff and I don't want them to break.
Becca, that's a lot of rain. Our rain was off this year. We didn't have any in Jan/Feb, but then it was a really wet March. Very unusual for us.
I went grocery shopping this morning, so I'll be having my spinach salad and maybe some grilled chicken.
Have a lovely day.
