SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Feb 7

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Feb 07, 2019 2:25 am

Good frozen morning!

We are 24* here, but going above freezing later today. I think. Snowstorm headed our way, they say, tomorrow and Saturday. And next Tuesday and next Thursday & Friday. Really unusual for us. Many years we don't see a single flake. But about once every decade we got a good one. They say this may be that one. So we're headed out today to fuel up the vehicles, fill the extra gas cans for the generator, and pick up bread and catfood. Then we should be set.

Yesterday I quilted two quilts and got binding on one of them. I hope to get another one done today. Most of these quilts - past swaps plus a postage stamp made with 1-1/2" scrap squares I used as 'jump scraps' - will be for donation eventually when I get enough to donate. My pet cause is for our local law enforcement to carry in their cars for people in traumatic situations. But I haven't asked them yet if they even want quilts (cops carry a LOT of gear in their trunks already). I'm afraid they'll say "yes, we'll take a dozen, please", and I'll be stuck having to produce 12 quilts all at once!

JANA - has your snow stopped yet? Ours is about to begin. I expect it will head your way soon. You cracked me up - you not being an expensive hobby for Michael. LOL!!! We've driven the Feather River Canyon a few times. It's such a pretty drive!!

CHICKIE - we see wind and solar farms all over now as we travel, but I have to admit I haven't given the birds much thought. Now I will! And, of course, everyone loved your refreshments! I hope you get to go see Shelly, but if the roads are bad, don't make me worry about you!!

BECCA - You said you and your hubby are both turning the big #, but I notice you didn't tell us what that number is! LOL!! But let me see if I can guess: The number probably ends in a zero. You recently celebrated your 60th wedding anniversary. I don't think you were married at age 10, so 70 is out. And you are much to youthful to be 90. So I'm guessing you're turning 80? I do hope you can all get together to celebrate. When is CA's birthday? I was planning a small party for my dad's 80th birthday but he nixed that quite firmly. We were all disappointed.

IRISH - your little eagles must have been a joy to see 'in person'. I would want their autographs, they are such celebrities! I'm glad Gin is improving. And also glad that it appears there will be consequences for the driver. OUCH! Your elbow must have really hurt! A good lecture for us all! I did see CHICKIE has a walking stick to help with stability. One of these days I think I'm going to get me one. But usually, when I'm walking, my hands are full of a tugging leash. You have lots of things to look forward to in your near future! Arizona? Hmmmm... Might you be headed to Quartzsite??

TINA - I hope you enjoyed your zuppa and got rid of your sneezies.

MARY ROSE - your supper sounds great to me! I love potato salad!

We might do tacos tonite. We have all the fixings and Bill always loves tacos.

Good morning!

Mary - yes, the snow has stopped, for the moment. We got almost 2 feet yesterday and you and Chriss are sending more. Deoends on which one will come to me or go to Tina.

Becca - I am catching up to you in BD's - only a few more and I will be tbere - happy coming up BD!

Aaron was a busy boy yesterday. And then today, another big pile up on the freeway, where they have 5 of the 6 lanes closed this morning. I am dumbfounded at what part of the words, "Slow Down", people think doesn't apply to them! Sheesh!

We have a bit of blue sky peeking through the clouds. Ethan has school today and I am picking him up after school is over. The mountains look so pretty with all the snow. We need all that so much in the summer. Right now, the snow is sliding ever so slowly off my barn roof and is so sticky wet, that it curls as it reaches the edge, hanging over. Then refreezes and just hangs there, defying gravity. We are at 17 degrees right now.

Class is tonight. Only a couple of blocks from the house. We may go, depending on how Michael feels. Dinner could be out, if we go, or it could be something simple like a soup I have in the freezer. We will see.

I have more uglies to get done today - the worst to do is the guest bathroom.

Enjoy!
Jana

We are 16 with a “feels like” 2 degrees. Ice covers everything! DH was bound and determined he was going to coffee this morning. An hour later, he was still trying to melt/scrape ice from his car. He had to take a crowbar to get into it to start it. He missed coffee, but hopefully he made it to his dental appointment 20 miles away. I have a feeling he was late!!!

Last night we had thunderstorms along with the ice storm. Our power was out a couple of times for 5 or 10 minutes. Poor Tinker Bell just hates the storms, so I had a 50+ pound lap dog throughout the evening.

I’ve been feeding the birds extra, and they have lined up and devoured every morsel. Out I go again… I can’t begin to count the cardinals that were here early. Now is mainly finches, sparrows, chickadees, tufted titmice and on the finch feeder—two downy woodpeckers. There are several cardinals, blue jays and red-bellied woodpeckers as well as a squirrel. The squirrel knows my dogs do not respond to “squirrel!” He laughs at me. I can get within a few feet of him before he decides to skedaddle.

Mary—I admire you of your project! I want to do some donation quilts one day. I hope you don’t get more ice! I definitely won’t venture out if the roads are bad tomorrow! We aren’t going to be above 23 today and only 30 tomorrow. The highways should be clear, and I’m only 1.25 miles from the highway. I’m so tired of winter!!!

Becca—Happy birthday to you and CA whenever it is! I think you should celebrate for weeks!!!

Jana—DH thinks I’m an expensive necessity. LOL!

Mom gave me my walking/hiking stick. It was hers from when she used to go on Audubon outings and trail hikes. I think she got it in Arkansas on one of their trips. It really does help! I think I’ve only kissed the earth once while using it. My two left feet tend to get tangled easily.

Irish—yes, that is a unique bookmark!!!

Today I’ll be in my sewing room. I made two table runners and eight place mats to be divided between my granddaughter in law and her mom. I’ll sandwich and quilt them today. I’m so pleased with how they are looking… if I don’t mess up the quilting!

Dinner tonight—I made that big pot of soup yesterday. I’m thinking I might add some meatballs and pasta to it and get DH to partake.

Stay warm! Stay safe! Bon appétit!

Jana and Becca surprised me when I posted...

Jana—do not send me snow!!! I want Spring!!! I have icicles everywhere that formed when it was raining and freezing. People have no sense when it comes to driving on ice. If I was my DH, I would have cancelled my dental appointment and paid whatever they required. But, I’m not him. The snow would definitely be pretty on the mountains! It can stay there. When we have snow, our house roof does exactly what you are describing.

Becca—I definitely think this should be the year of you and CA! Celebrate all year long!!! Enjoy your sunshine!!! I had cookies in my pocket yesterday to leave for Ava’s mom and dad. Mostly they are full of Kleenexes in this weather! I keep a pair of gloves in every coat pocket. I never have to hunt for a pair.

Good afternoon from a warmish, semi sunny, SW. Pa...I couldn't believe how warm it was when I gave Jake his breakfast this morning but sadly, I have a feeling, it's not going to last long and we'll probably be getting some of that cold and snow everyone is trying to give away......

Mary, once again, you are on a roll! What a great cause and I'm sure those police will so appreciate your quilts....I've often thought but then don't follow through except for doing Linus Project quilts....Right now, I'm having a hard time getting the ones for the kids done....AND I did hear, another great grand baby is on the way and I'll need another baby quilt, due on my birthday in August but I'm waiting for the "BIG reveal" and then do the quilt...This isKevin and Cindy's oldest DS and their 1st grand baby and it's just hard picturing Kevin as a PapPap....Jim would be so happy, he was in his glory holding these little ones....
It wouldn't be a bad idea for any of us to have a walking stick...I have a cane in the car, just in case but rarely use it....

Becca,Our weather isn't quite as warm as you have but it's sure welcome...If the yard hadn't been so soggy, I thought about hanging the sheets outside on the line.... You know, you're right about not eating right if you're alone...And it's funny about the baloney, just the other day, I got 1/4 pound of regular baloney...Jim always like it and I thought I'd give it a shot..Let's just say, it was OK....
When I turned 80, I made sure everyone knew, no party and no gifts...I felt blessed enough just having my family and also making it to 80, lol.....But, you know, it's just a number.....

Chickie and Jana, I'm with you, ready for the end of winter and the freshness of spring......

Don't seem to be accomplishing too much today, just little odds and ends.....Did have a call from one of my lunch gals and we're going to try a new place tomorrow and then try to find a new bakery that everyone is raving about...Should be a fun day....

As for my dinner, I put beef cubes in the crock pot and will add the fixens for stew..Also might make some banana/nut bread..If I don't make it, I'll drop the bananas off at my sisters and let her do the work and hopefully, I'll reap the benefits...(besides, her's is always better than mine).....

You all have a great day.....

Happy eating.............
