Supper club, Sunday, Dec 16

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Dec 16, 2018 12:43 am

Good morning ,

We spent yesterday with Autumn and Aaron. Aaron never knows what to get Autumn for Christmas. Usually he shops Christmas Eve evening and buys weird stuff. This year he decided he would have Bill do a bunch of projects around the house as Autumn‘s Christmas present. Aaron is definitely not a handyman kind of guy. Anyway, we went to Home Depot and shopped for over an hour for lighting fixtures, light switches, wiring etc. and yet Aaron didn’t buy anything. So about 3 PM we finally started for home. He spins his wheels and we don’t know if he truly doesn’t know what supplies to get or if it’s a stalling tactic so he doesn’t have to do anything but thinks he will get credit for “trying”. We love our son-in-law, but we love him more if we don’t have to spend a lot of time with him.

Today is the camp ground Christmas party and we are hosting it with our next-door friends. It will be at our campsite because we have more room. So today will mostly be getting ready for that. Everybody brings a chair and food. Bill and I are making hotdogs on the grill and fried cakes ( or scones to you, Jana).

Irish, today you are up up and away toward the sunny skies of Florida. I hope you have a blast down there ! I think you told us you were going to be gone six days. We will miss you!

Becca, did you get those cookies baked? I used to work the toy drive at the fire department for 12 years between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was like a full-time job for that month and some of those years I never baked a single cookie. Just no time. Christmas still happened and nobody seemed to notice the lack if cookies. And I could always count on losing 5 pounds in December. After that revelation I don’t do much Christmas baking anymore. Now, If we are home, I will bake a double batch of chocolate chip cookies, divide them up, between my local son and daughter and save a few for us. But in the old days, it wasn’t Christmas unless I made at least 12 different kinds of cookies and candies.

So dinner tonight for us will be hotdogs, fried cakes, and whatever else is at the party. AND YOU’RE ALL INVITED!!

Good afternoon! I missed a couple of days… busy busy, busy! Yesterday I got up at zero dark thirty to shower and fix my hair, make breakfast and get DH around. We went to Joplin to watch our oldest grandson graduate from college. He worked real hard taking online and night classes—so proud of him!!! Stopped for a bite of lunch in the form of Chinese take out, and got home just in time to change clothes and get to the wedding venue for photos. I hadn’t been back on campus but maybe once at least 10 years ago since I retired. It was fun to see—the campus is really beautiful. It’s on rolling hills that was a farm that was donated in the 60s for a campus. The buildings have all been kept to the same architectural style over the years of additions and new projects, so it looks very cohesive and planned. One of the custodians recognized me and we had a quick hello. I’m not sure there are any other people left that I knew when I worked there. I spent 28 years of my life on that campus!

The wedding was absolutely beautiful! The beautiful bride wore a stunning lace gown with a rhinestone belt. Her attendants wore rosy taupe gowns with “fur” wraps. They were gorgeous. Her nieces were flower girls, and of course, they stole the show—such cuties! Everything was perfect. We didn’t stay too late, as we were both worn out from running all day. I got to visit with my DD and family. DGD found some new friends—girls who go to her school north of Pittsburg. They are the bride’s cousins; DGD is the groom’s cousin through my marriage to his grandpa… so, that makes all the girls shirt-tail relation… right? Works for us!

I’ve cleaned floors, practiced yoga, fixed brunch, am doing laundry and hanging it outside as the loads are ready, and helped load two ricks of firewood DH sold. I’m going to head for my sewing room to bind all the runners and toppers today. I’ll still have some potholders to finish. Tomorrow I make DGS’s birthday cookie—he’s 20, which has to be a mistake!!! Tuesday I’ll deliver it. DD said she was off for the afternoon, so we will have fun shopping and visiting and having lunch .

Mary—sounds like your SIL has commitment issues with trying to plan projects as well as gifts. Have fun with your campsite party!!! My Mom used to have “Honey Do” lists for DH. She usually has a list of chores for me now.

Irish—know you will be having fun in Florida soon!

Becca—I used to do loads of baking and decorating. I miss it. You’re right, that most of the family eats less sugar, and it’s much healthier… but gingerbread and sugar cookies are so cute!

Dinner here will be Chinese take out. I know I already ate, but it really sounds yummy. We just ate a few bites so quickly yesterday in the car, that I forgot how good it tasted.

Bon appétit!
