SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Oct 10
Good morning,
I slept late this morning. I was up for a couple of hours, reading during the night. I rarely have headaches but I had a doozy last night, stemming from my neck. It's mostly gone now. Good thing because I have my sewing machine class this morning at 10:30. I sure don't want to START out with a headache! lol!
Our company left yesterday and I spent a few hours making a small SS gift and almost finished a table runner. I hope to get that "in the can" before my class. I should come home from class this afternoon and sew some more stuff just to cement in what I learn. But sometime in the next week of predicted good weather I have a lot of fall yard work to do - cutting back, raking, and bringing in all my yard art. I SHOULD have my sis do that - after all, she's the one who put it out for me last spring. But she's down with the flu (and also is in Colorado), so I guess that's not happening.
OH, if anyone here pre-ordered Lori Holt's Vintage Christmas book from QIAD, I finally called to ask about it. I ordered mine in mid-August. They said they aren't shipping until Nov 1st. Arghhh!! It's been in the stores for 2 months. I had to have my shipping address changed to my DD's in Texas as we'll be on the road before that book would get to us at home. I sure wish they'd given the anticipated shipping date at ordering time.
TINA - thanks for the vote of confidence on my class! Are you enjoying your week off? Sewing? I can't believe Preston is 3 already! Nice that you got a night off cooking! Did Kevin and Maria close on their house yet? I know it was happening right after the wedding but can't recall the date though I do recall you telling us. They probably need a housewarming quilt, huh. I've heard of elephant ear house plants and butterfly bushes but never elephant bushes. Is it a regional plant?
JANA - you're going to be busy the rest of this week! But I'm pretty sure you're loving it! I see they've now named a hurricane after your hubby (and my first DH and my son). See any resemblance??
BECCA - sorry about your shopping trip the other day. Ya just gotta laugh it off. and sounds like you probably did. Prayers for your lung transplant friend, too. Betsy found a plaque that said, "I didn't come this far just to come this far". She knew it was meant for her so now it hangs in her kitchen. Like your friend, she's a fighter, too. So, what it Italian Wedding Cake? Is the frosting different? I'm wondering if you are going to be feeling some of the effects of "Michael" as it turns northward. Rain, maybe?
CHICKIE - we just don't hear you talking rain that often! Bet the pastures are turning green again. My SIL, Terry, used to make mints years ago for any occasion that came up - showers, parties, weddings. She had a lot of molds. There was a quilt show in next county, about 30 miles north of us, last weekend, but we were just too busy to go. I would have loved to have seen it, though. So do YOU know what an Italian wedding cake is? Or are you and Becca going to make me Google it?
IRISH - well, dang it! Now you've got US talking new carpet! We have a split level house and did the 1,100 square foot upstairs (living/dining/, kitchen, office, sewing & quilting rooms) 4 years ago. But we couldn't afford to do the downstairs (large family room and large bedroom) at that time. But I was looking at it the other day and couldn't look away. It's 20 years old and is long past due. I mentioned to Bill that when we come home from Texas in February, we really should think about replacing it and - GASP! - he said he was thinking the same thing!! Now what are those odds?? Anyway, something to look forward to next spring. So when is YOUR new carpet coming?
I think for tonite I might make a stew in the crockpot. We haven't had that in a long time and I have carrots, potatoes, and onions that aren't getting any younger. I make my stew with hamburger and I brown it first. I also add beer for some of the liquid, a hint that an elderly friend gave me 35 years ago. Bill didn't care for stew when I met him but he says he likes mine and he always eats two bowls. So I don't mess with my recipe much. Though I might add dumplings, too.
How's it looking in your kitchen for tonite?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Oct 10
Good morning! We are overcast here, but we are dry—at least for a day or two. We are also cooler—in the 50s today, and we’ll be in the mid-30s at night. When the temperatures fall, they fall! The hooligans will be happy to walk to see Ava today, as it was raining and they didn’t get to walk yesterday. (I walked her as we drove by to go to Chanute yesterday.) They didn’t get to go see Choc for the same reason. I left them inside and drove. If they would have gone with me, the inside of my truck would be much worse than it already is. The pastures were lush green, and the ponds are full. Since it’s October, the grass is seasonally turning brown in places. The trees are losing leaves, and the skies are “Fall Blue” which is more intense than summer’s blue.
Mary—I pre-ordered the book and promptly forgot all about it. Guess I’ll be surprised when it arrives. I don’t have time to play with it until after November anyway. I wasn’t aware it was already in stores, but then I haven’t been in any stores. Hope your class goes well! You will “get it” quickly, I’m sure!!! DD got me a few more molds, so now I have quite a selection. I’m going to make bunches of different flowers in fall-ish colors and some birds using the dove mold she got for me. She also got a little tear drop camper cookie cutter—hint, hint!!! I guess I’ll make cut out cookies for Christmas and decorate the camper with a wreath!
As far as I can remember, Italian Crème Cakes or Italian Wedding Cakes are decadent creations with loads of butter, cocoanut and pecans in the batter as well as cocoanut, pecans and cream cheese in the frosting. I’ve had it, but never made it myself.
Irish—sounds like instead of “Keeping up with the Joneses” that Mary and Bill are keeping up with the Irish in looking at new carpeting! Things like that are catching! I might need to look at area rugs!
Jana—I heard Michael is getting ready to blow his top over Florida! Sounds like he will leave the coast devastated.
Becca—Hope you don’t get more revenge rain and storms from Michael! I know you’ve had enough.
Dinner here tonight… the lentil-kale-squash-meatball soup I made last evening for me, and something else for DH. He doesn’t touch soup often, and especially not “healthy-ish” soup.
Meanwhile, I hope to be sewing and finishing hemming the napkins for the shower gift. I’ll be ready when the invitation arrives, and I know it will.
Bon appétit!

Hello everyone, cloudy here with light rain.Watching Michael as it hits FL.Poor people.I feel for them as it’s going same route as Florence did.We are supposed to be on edge of it & get rain with light winds.I wish it would go out to sea & miss everyone but that’s not happening.
Maryz Getting new foooring is a big deal with moving everything in room.I hate doing it.
But it does look nice when it’s all done.
This cake has me much in doubt bec I googled Italian Wedding Cake & it was yellow or white looking .This one is more like a spice cake with nuts .etc.Does Have That icing on it.This looks more like hummingbird cake. All I Know is the cake is delicious.I scape off the icing.I won’t make one so it doesn’t matter I guess. Our DS 1 had hummingbird cake at their reception & it was very yummy.
Maryz I must laugh about the trips & our life in general or I would crack up.
Chickie Your soup sounds like my kind of soup.Of course I’m a big soup fan.Your Doggie es Do keep you on your toes.
I got my hair cut this morning, then ran for groceries bec I was afraid it will be raining hard tomorrow when storm gets here.Im hoping it goes more East Although I feel so bad for those people that just got hit.Its bad any way it goes.
Came home & Stripped the beds & they are washing now.Seems there’s always laundry.
Jana You do need to calm Michael with some kind of special treatment.Lol
It’s going to be Meatloaf tonite. With baked potatoes & stir fri zucchini & onions & mushrooms.Lots of goodies still. Becca

Good afternoon from a very sunny, warm, summery, SW. Pa....Gotta enjoy it now because it's going to be changing drastically......When I talked to Kathy the other night, they came home to frost on the tomatoes and we're having a heat wave...Makes you wonder what's going through Mother Nature's mind......
Mary, Are you really trying to confuse this old broad???This is Wed., isn't it? And if it isn't, I'm in deep doodoo.....It has to be Wed., Survivor is on tonight! I wonder if Joanne still watches it...Also wonder if Joanne still waits on her porch to see the garbage man, lol....I don't get as many in uniform/shorts any more...I think the last one was UPS delivering my Chewy stuff and he was old and complained about how heavy the box was...For sure, not good eye candy....NEW carpet, that's great...But, I'm kind of glad you're waiting until spring or you'd probably have your's before I get mine, lol.....I am on the schedule for next Tuesday and hopefully, I'll get something similar to what I ordered, lol....Really anxious to hear how your lesson goes and if you have lots of home work....
Beer in stew, funny, being Irish, we never heard of that! Jim would have loved it....
Chickie, not liking your weather but know it's headed our way...Just hope and prayer we don't get too much rain if Michael comes our way...Kathy used to make mints for all our parties and everyone loved them...Need to get her back in this area, not just for her mints, lol....
Becca, Again, hoping and praying the storm doesn't come near you....Enough is enough! As Mary said, when you sit back and think of some of the things that drive you buggy at the time, it does make you laugh...So often, I'll remember those silly things Jim used to do and it would frustrate me to no end but what I wouldn't do to have him here doing those things now.....
This might sound morbid but I think everyone should maybe go through a period of really loosing someone, just for maybe a month, and then that person come back...During that period, you would think, what all you could have done, might have done, things you would have said and would make having that person back, more appreciated...Does that make sense??? Every night, I find myself telling Jim how bad I feel for not doing something or telling him something that he might have enjoyed....Lots of little things that sneaks by and then it's too late.....OH well, enough of that, right......
Yesterday, my sister called and I filled in at her card club and had so much fun....But, as much as I like to go, I hate to think that one of the members has to be sick for me to be called....today, sheets on the line and then I spent an hour or so outside and cleaning the front porch...Little by little, it'll get done....Later I'm driving into the airport to pick up a lunch gal who is coming back from Florida...Hopefully, her flight will get off on schedule...tomorrow, DDIL, Cindy is picking me up and we're going washer/dryer shopping, for her, and of course lunch....Friday is another lunch, I think...AND had a message from Cari and baby Lena wants to know when Grammy is coming to spoil her....She told me, Lena is sleeping about 3-4 hours at a time and eating like a little piggy....
For my dinner, it might be on the way home from the airport and I won't complain.....
You all have a great day.....
Happy eating.............

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Oct 10
Good afternoon!
Just finished the last embroidery that I am doing right now and just before that got home from running across the valley to get maps for Sarah. She wanted some updated maps and I have AAA, so off we went. And since we were right across the street from JoAnn's we stopped off there and refilled my fusible fleece stash as well as what I really needed one spool of thread.
My Michael is really a mild mannered guy, but if you tick him off, see what happens! LOL Hope and pray that many listen and are out of harm's way.
Dinner - well last night's noodles were very yummy. Except that I can't make just a small batch of noodles, so since I had way too many, I froze the raw pasta and it will be ready when I make the next batch of noodles with the broth that I froze. If I frozr them together, the noodles soak up the broth, hence I freeze them separately. If Michael stays out of what is left from last night, there will be enough for dinner tonight.
Irish - know exactly what you are saying. Have you ever thought that those little ideas of something that you should have done, could be put into something that you can do for someone now? Maybe they need a batch of cookies, or even just a smile. You can make a difference, even little things make a big difference.
Becca - stay safe! Hope that all that water just rolls away from your house.
Chickie - not long until Mom's birthday. Those mints are delish!
Mary - we too are thinking about changing out the carpet in this house, even if it is only 7 years old. We did a upgrade, but not to a very good carpet. But the thought of moving everything is daunting! I have even thought of putting in hardwoods, but with my high ceiling and openness of this house, it would be even more noisy than it is now. We shall see....
Well, need to get some things finished around here,
Enjoy!
Jana

I was so confused. Friday is a couple days from now. Lol.
Tonight, we are having mashed potatoes, something special on a bed of baby arugala, and sliced tomatoes. I am plugging away with weight watchers. Eating lean meats, fruits, and veggies.
