SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, July 18th
Good morning,
We're much cooler today - going to about 77" and there's a very light mist happening outside right now. Can't wait to get out and walk in it! Today is my first hubbie's 67th birthday. Can't imagine what he'd look like today as he was only 33 last time I saw him. We were married at age 19. I was an 'older woman' by 4 months.
PAM - Eleanor is from PA so I imagine she has a lot of relatives all over PA, NY. Patricia may even live in PA still. Have fun with your snowmen!
CHICKIE - maybe you just need to mow down your yard and forget trying to have flowers. Sure as shootin', as soon as you get things established again, more calves will come along, or maybe a drought. But I know you like things pretty and miss your lovely yard. Happy you got a bit of wet, anyway!
TINA and CAROLE - I also had similiar injuries from a long ago car accident. My new chiropractor has helped so much, right from the first appointment. It's not 'bone-cracking' like it was years ago. Now it's more like a gentle massage using "percussers".
CAROLE - my DSIL in Alaska used to belong to a group who made prayer shawls. I hope you get your hearts to behave!
TINA - sorry abut the weeds. I'm not coming down there! Not for weeds, anyway! maybe for chilies . . .
BECCA - you and your DH have had a rough week - and it's only Wednesday! Wishing you better days ahead. you can always leave your hand open to air in the evenings and at night, but cover the wounds with bandaids when you are working around the house and use a rubber glove for wet chores. As for my yard, it's not done like I did it 30 years ago, but it's done for how I do it now. ;o)
JANA - what an idiot for tossing that cigarette! I wish they could find him and prosecute. Bill will be 70 as well - on Friday. What a great celebration you are planning for Michael! he will love it. Will it be a surprise? I won't tell! Bill wants nothing for his 70th. I did have a big blow-out for his 50th, with about 60 guests and he's not quite over that surprise yet! But we are going to an Italian restaurant with 2 other couples next Tuesday (half price wine night!). And family is coming the next weekend as Autumn will be here for a short visit. I'm not sure what he and I will be doing for his actual day. I think he wants a Round Table pizza.
Supper last night was grilled chicken, asparagus done in foil on the grill with parm cheese, and a salad. I might take the leftover chicken and make a small pot of soup. Or cut it up, mix it with peas, bacon, and call it carbonara. yeah - that's it! Carbonara! Whew. My menus usually evolve as I talk them up with you!
What's evolving in your kitchen tonite?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, July 18th
Good morning!
Mary - yes, the kids are trying to surprise their Dad for tnis birthday. It is on August 6th, but we don't know what day we will do this yet. With Stu, there is no near Costco or Sam's in the small college town. Last year he was on a meal plan, where he just went in the cafeteria and got what he wanted. He will not do that this year and is sharing an apartment with some other guys. So Grandma will stock him with what he wants to eat when he comes home for a visit.
Dinner will be broccoli cheese soup. I know it is too hot for soup, but I need to use up a bunch of broccoli. Michael enjoys it.
Well, my LA decided to act up and Sarah will come look and see what the operator error is besides me! The needle doesn't pick up the bobbin thread - hopefully the needle is turned wrong. Sarah is smart and will figure it out!
We will be cooling off to the lower 90's the rest of the week with thunderdtorms moving in with much needed rain.
Enjoy,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, July 18th
Good Morning MaryZ and all who follow. Around here supper depends on who feels up to cooking. At the moment my live in chef is under the weather. and the weather is cool, comfy, and very very wet. Finally getting some much needed rain. The plants are loving it because I sure don't feel up to watering every day or so to keep them alive.
I am ashamed of my yard this yr. I do have pretty flowers but it has been so neglected this yr and overgrown due to health problems for both of us. Rod did go out and clean up the porch area yesterday and swept and rearranged the chairs etc so looks a little neater.
He pulled or tried to anyway, some of my many milk weeds. A few yrs ago I planted one milk weed plant for the monarch butterflies. That is their nursery from egg laying to caterpillar to awesome big orange and black monarch butterflies.
WE saw two big ones in flowers last few days. Such a beautiful butterfly. The caterpillars are pretty too. They lay eggs on the milkweed and when the eggs hatch, the babies eat the leaves. In the springtime, my yard smells so sweet. The flowers resemble balls of lilac flowers, tiny ones but huge scent of almost lilac like smell.
But the milk weed seeded down and this yr I had 12 plants all over my beds. I am beginning to think they spread by runners too since in a strange pattern, and we can't pull them up. The roots seem to go on forever so just cutting off. News last yr begged folks to plant milk weed since so much is now destroyed along the hwys with spray. Wouldn't want those delightful big butterflies to go extinct.
I opened my window in living room this am and shut off AC for awhile.
Feels and looks like fall out there. I honestly think the seasons are changing quicker this yr. I already have lots of yellow leaves falling in my yard and one of my mums is getting buds. Really early for mums in July. This cool weather will probably trigger them to bloom earlier. But I love the fall and the changing colors.
Rod just got up from a nap. He tried to go for a walk this am and a few min later came back, white as a sheet. I thought he was going to pass out. Said he got really dizzy and light headed so took a short cut back to house.
It is a half mile around perimeter of our senior complex and he usually walks around 2-4 times depending on weather and how much he aches. He worked out in yard yesterday and got too hot. I know better than to go out in heat and high humidity. Today he is paying the price for doing it.
Hope this finds everyone happy and healthy out there. Love to hear about your lives and what you are having for supper. We are probably having leftovers from last night...….meat loaf cooked in a muffin tin. Love those, everyone gets an outter crust and not so long in oven. Add a baked tater and some veggie and Voila, supper. I can cook that kind quickly. LOL
Prayers for all of you today and always. My mind and memory are still shot so will just say God, bless everyone on QIAD and provide for all their needs today and always. Sending love and hugs to all, Shirley Mae, Rod and Domino the kittycat, outside dodging raindrops and chasing bugs.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, July 18th
Good Morning Jana, Good luck trying to pull off a surprise party. My kids managed to do it for Rod on his 60th. They wanted to do it for both of us since our anniv was a few wks earlier but didn't know how to get Rod to go to Las Vegas and not catch on so let me in on it and got some help from me. Men are hard to surprise.
One young DGD let it slip and then ran to her bedroom and cried because she thought she ruined it. He didn't have hearing aids back then and I don't think he even knew what she said. One of our DDs let it slip in the midst of a conversation but that went right over his head too.
He didn't even catch on when my sis and bil from NM showed up in Las Vegas at our DDs house. they said they were coming out to gamble since they knew we would be in the area. LOL
Our son had us take our dog to his Sis-il. Rod wanted to just put her in their back yard since son was at work. He made up some excuse about being too hot, (AZ in winter is not that hot). When those two DGDs walked into our hotel room, he was furious. Who is taking care of the dog? Still didn't catch on to the whole situation but thought nice to have them there.
Another DD and Sn-il had made plans to go to Vegas same time we did so that didn't set off any alarms. On road to Vegas third DD called, told us HI and said she was Christmas shopping in New Orleans where they lived. He made comment at breakfast next morning, wish our other DD was here, then all kids together (we have 4). He ask about son who was missing from breakfast, told he was sick. He wanted to go check on him but one of our DGDs offered to go and do it. Son was actually at airport picking up other DD &SIL.
When they walked in, Rod was in tears and the kids overjoyed. All together at last and he never caught on until the end. Wasn't easy but so worth all the effort, dodging questions, etc. So many happy memories that weekend in Las Vegas.
So Good LUck trying to pull it off. But so worth the effort and memories, even if they do catch on. Our kids are in 4 states and the DGKs are scattered in 5 states so haven't had them all together for a very long time. Think that may have been last time and Rod will be 74 this yr.
Hope you get your LA fixed so you can get back to important things like quilting. Love your Ethan stories. He is such a delight. God sure blessed your family with so much happiness in the form of a child.
Hugs, have a great day, Shirley Mae

Hello everyone,Sunny here.I did take my first short walk today since dog attack but didn’t go by their house.Choose Another route in development.
Jana I do hope you can pull off the surprise.I have never been able to surprise CA.The train ride would be fun.We took an excursion once when the children were growing up.
Glad Stu helped with rugs.
Shirley Mae Good to hear from you.And nice you have rain to cool you.Glad Rod made it home. That could be scary if he passed out.Life is never dull!!! At least not here.
I love the mini meat loaves.
Maryz I still have butterfly strips bec they are so deep & can still pull apart. When they are healed enough to not pull apart then I go with nothing on them.Im taking no chances on infection. Thanks for tip.
I did get bathrooms cleaned with left hand.I have learned to use it much more than I thought. And I chased out dust bunnies. So it’s presentable .
We have pinto beans leftover. And I’m adding squash stir fri.Fresh peaches too.
Becca
Tina Chickie ,Irish Carole & Pam, Hope all’s well with each of you .

Hi all
I'm late. I made the pork chops and zucchini last night and took Dad his plate and visited till he was finished and then put drops in his eye for him. He's in pain.
I've been in my sewing room and took a break and then was texting Mary and Chickie and fell asleep with the phone in my hand LOL I didn't sleep good last night so I guess that's what happened.
I'm thinking a burger on the grill and salad for supper.

Mary, I will be there soon, I love carbonara!
Jana, when hubby and I went to nursing school, we lived just off campus, and got a meal plan. It was so much easier. I thought about coming to visit you for broccoli soup, but the temps scared me off.
Shirley Mae, I watered my few cucumber plants, but the tomato plants are planted 80% in the ground, when I plant them. I told them to dig deep and get their own water. It was nice to hear from you! I hope Rod is OK. Enjoy the raindrops!
Becca, I am glad you are healing, and sorry you needed to change your route. I hope you are writing down what has happened and the dates, in case you need that info.
Tina, zuccini's are just coming ripe in my area. None in my garden, yet, but my sisterinlaw has had a couple. Some people are getting a few cucmbers, too. Mine might be better if I had watered them more. I think they are stunted.
Chickie and Carole with an E, I hope you are having a good day!
DH is working late, so I went to Mom n Dad's house. We had mac n cheese patties, meat loaf, potato fritters, mac salad, and broccoli. It was a leftover buffet.
