SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, July 15th

Good morning!

July is half over! I'm noticing that dawn is coming just a smidge later in the morning now. ( I got 4 hours in the yard yesterday. That's 6 tractor bucket loads of debris that Bill hauled off to the slash pile for me. And a lot of work and ibuprofen. However, if I get out there early enough before it gets too hot, I may finish the yard work today! Hooray! Then it should be good until fall. In the afternoons I've been in my sewing room. I've managed to squeeze in a few daily uglies, like dishes, kitchen floor, cooking, etc. When the yard is done, I'll get more diligent about the inside. Maybe I'll get to where there's nothing to do here but sew! And make supper, of course.

BECCA - glad your hand is gradually healing. Do you wear latex gloves for working in the kitchen? I'm kind of surprised that you still aren't allowed to get it wet, at least say, in the shower, then let it dry and re-bandage. My rock painting was only two rocks - and just eyeballs. I do have a book on it though! and I have a rock I got as a gift that is painted like a beautiiful calico cat that looks just like my Riley.

JANA - what colors are your baby kitties? I may have to come kitty-shopping. Riley isn't doing so well. At age 19 yrs, 3 months, she is really hobbling around now, sleeps about 23-1/2 hrs a day, and this week has all but stopped eating. Her eyes look sad to me, but her long coat is still lush and beautiful.

PAM - that day sounds like fun, but too long. I'm sure you had fun, but I'd have been dragging the next day. I love cats, too. Our cats go in/out at will through their flap. I haven't had a litter box in about 25 years. Though when we travel, they do have a box in the storage bins of our fifth-wheel. Bill put a cat flap in so they can get to it and we don't have the box in the living portion of the unit. But at home, no boxes.

IRISH, CHICKIE, TINA, BECKY, CAROLE, LINDA, VELDA - I hope you all are having a terrific weekend!

Temps today and tomorrow are predicted to go to about 90* - unusually hot for our part of the country. With low humidity, too. So Chef's salad for supper. I'll add hard boiled egg and beans (kidney, black, or garbanzo - TBA). What's the menu looking like at your house?

Mary, you are a busy lady. You will only have sewing left to do, soon!

I slept in, today. Need to water the veggies, today. It threatened rain, yesterday, but didn't come through.

Supper, today may be a speghetti dinner fundraiser for animal rescues, or something cool at home.

Hello everyone,sunny here at 83.We have been getting rain every afternoon.

Maryz That’s a lot of yard work.Sure wish I could do some.Thats my love ,being outside.
You must have it looking good.
I can get my hand wet now.I have 3 places that are still nasty looking.No gloves unless I have to.They bother the places.Im just careful.

Pam Glad you got some rest after that long Shop Hop.Sounds too long.

DH isn’t up today so will be lite.I have leftover ham.Will add stir fri squash and onions for me.He will probably want soup or cereal. Becca

DH and I went into Clovis (the upscale part of Fresno)yesterday to their area of antique shops and spent the mid day browsing, looking for anything sewing. We have never browsed them before with a purpose in mind, and it as been years. We found very little sewing items, only 2 old singer machines and no needle holders, all over priced. Guess I will just have to haunt the estate sales. It was 105 throughout the day there, only 103 in our little town 27 miles to the southwest.

This morning the AC kicked on at 6:15, already 80 in the house and outside. Both of us slept badly so we had no energy for a walk. DH was ruminating on why one of the ceiling fans in our new sun room was so noisy and he wanted to tackle it. I am so proud of him. He loves repairing things and was able to disassemble it and find out why it was clicking. After many stumbling blocks, including shorting out the circuit, he was able to fix it, get it back together and it is so quiet now. He seems to be able to fix anything!!

I finished my ocean quilt for my BFF and will send it off to Teresa for quilting. I also got the basic top of my scrap patriotic quilt all together. Now to just add the borders. It turned out so well I think I will just hold on to it for our guild's quilt show in 2019, before I give it away. Now I have to return to my god daughter's quilt I started some time ago. Promised it to her when she graduates and she is a senior this coming year. I should also start cleaning up the 4 Singer machines I now have. Two of them are Featherweights, 1 of which I am keeping.

DH says we are having sh***p tempura, L*****r, Sc*****p, and salad for dinner tonight. YUM! (sorry Mary)

Good lazy afternoon from a warm, sunny, gorgeous, SW. Pa....Being warm, we always have a chance of a shower but so far, I've been doing all the watering......

Mary, you sure are a busy, busy gal....Makes me tired just reading all that you do.....I was thinking about you last night when I saw a picture on FB of an Irish Plaid quilt and then did look up the pattern....Absolutely gorgeous but it's paper piecing and I'm not sure if I could do that much..But, after doing that Hockey (quilt from H+++,) it might be a snap.....I did run in JoAnn's the other day but only bought 2 spools of thread to finish Cari's baby quilt....Cari has decided she doesn't want a shower, but her DH, Matt is having a "Pregger Kegger" for his men friends s Cari is asking the wives to get together for dinner...She lives about 3 hours away and said, if I wanted, I could stay over...Not sure yet if I'll be going but it does sound like fun....I had already crocheted a pink afghan so now I need to finish the quilt and add it to the stuff that keeps jumping in my shopping cart when I get near a baby section....
Sad to hear Riley isn't doing well but she sure has had a long, happy life...I keep looking at my Kelly, my 14 yr. old tuxedo, and hoping she has some years left with me...I think, BabyGirl is keeping her young....But, then again, I worry that both of them will outlive me and then what? Oh boy, enough of that, right?????

Becca, I've heard and I also think, any time you get an animal bite or scratch, it seems to take longer to heal...But, so glad you had someone who knows what to do, taking care of it...Every time I see a swing I think of you....Years ago, we did have one on our front porch and that was indeed a treat....My sister still has the one my Mom had on the front porch...In fact, just made a seat cushion for it...Brings back good swing memories.....

As for my dinner, I'm liking the idea of chef's salad.....Have the eggs already done...But, by dinner time, who knows what it might be.....

And darn, guess who needs to clean the litter boxes, all 3 of them.....Yes, my fur kids have more bathrooms than I do and do expect them all to be clean....But, no they aren't spoiled!

DH went out on the boat, and will grab something to eat after. We did not end up going to the fundraiser. I picked some fresh cilantro, basil leaves, and fresh baby leaf lettuce. I sliced up some red onion and jalopeno. Mixed it all with noodles. Then, I poured some beef broth and a little meat over it. I didn't have any steak, so I used ground beef. My version of a pho soup with. what I had on hand. I for got to add in some lime, and didn't have any bean sprouts. I liked it.

Hi everyone, Just wanted to let you know we had good old-fashioned comfort food tonight, no "catfood" involved. Rod and I are both so tired from hanging out at the ERs and hospital last few days, and not much appetites either. Sooooo….. guess what Rod whipped up for us tonight. Love my live in chef.

We had sausage and gravy over biscuits with fried eggs for supper. So yummy and simple and easy on the tummy too. Not sure about the waistline but it is a go to comfort food for us a lot. Sometimes we invite family over and they love it as much as we do. But for family, Rod whips up an omelet bake with everything but the kitchen sink in it instead of fried eggs.

You all just let me know when you are coming and we will stock up on biscuits and eggs. OK? Rod makes his own gravy, none of that pkgd stuff that is loaded with sodium. But we do paper plates for company, I am NOT doing dishes. LOL Would rather spend the time visiting.

MaryZ...Your chef's salad sounds so good. I love those things. Rod and I make our own salads almost every day at noon and then have a sandwich or soup to go with it. Four hrs of yard work in 90* temp, no matter what humidity, is really rough and hard on you. Be careful out there. I think a lot of my problems this week came from walking in the evening a few days ago and terribly hot and humid here. Came back home feeling really sick and was sick for several days before ending up in ER. Don't do that, no fun at all. I love yard work but mine is so neglected these days, I just cannot take the heat anymore. Maybe my old age creeping up on me. Glad it rained this week while I was gone and watered my garden for me.

Pam...…. hope you got to your spag fundraiser for animal rescue. what a worthy cause. I just read that you didn't get to go. Sorry about that. What is PHO soup? Never heard of it. Your version sounds interesting but I wouldn't want the jalopenos. Too spicy for me.

Becca, I so envy you having a swing. I love porch swings. My folks used to have one. My sister has one out in her yard, no porch to put it on. She sits out there and talks to me on the phone from NM. Hope your DH is feeling better and your hand is healing up too. Prayers for both of you for better days ahead.


Linda....your supper sounds wonderful. What do you mean by needle holders? Are you talking about pin cushions or handmade pcs of cloth sewed together to hold needles. Guess I just answered my own question but you can explain further, please. OK? Thanks. I think I might have one or two of them around here. Do you collect them?

Irish.....You have 3 litterboxes? Do the cats each have their own or use whatever is handy? Mine is an indoor/outdoor cat and only uses the litterbox if shut in and we are gone too long. She can hold it forever. And she doesn't use my garden either. Goes down into woods behind my house to go. I love my maint free kitty. Now if she would just learn to open the fridge or cupboard and get her own food, would be even simpler. LOL

Gotta scoot folks, Bedtime for Bonzo (that was an old movie for all you youngsters out there) and for this tired old lady too.
