2 Chronicles 6:12-42

Solomon's workers had completed the temple construction. Such attention to detail was given to this process that it took 7 years to complete the majestic temple. Yet even with all its finery, it wasn't the temple building that prompted Solomon's thoughtful prayer here. It was God's glorious presence filling that temple. Finally, there was a place for God to dwell more permanently among His people. Since the nations whole identity was based on its relationship with God and His blessing this was a very significant moment.
In light of that, it's interesting to really listen to Solomons prayer. Rather than a formal prayer laced with high and holy phrases, it is a very down to earth prayer filled with the tough stuff of real life. Solomon covered the gamut of life situations that these people were going to face as they worshiped for-- what he hopes will be--many centuries at this temple.
We should pray the same way-- inviting Gods presence to dwell in us and to forgive us whenever we stray from His ways.
