TUESDAY - 15 MAY SUPPER CLUB

Post by FarmChick » Tue May 15, 2018 5:46 am

Good morning! You never know what’s going to happen around here… We went in to town yesterday and DH ran the riding mower while I picked up trash and brush around the property. There was TOO MUCH of both! It was hot and dusty. We still need to go back and do more work… lots more work! The guy slimed out, and there is a big mess inside and out. We’ll have to get the utilities turned back on before we can really do some good cleaning and have the trash hauled off by the city. I’m pretty sure we are going today and cut brush. When we got home, we ate a late lunch. Then we went out and repaired fence and added another strand to the existing fence. Again… HOT and dusty! I had two showers yesterday.

Last night we had a thunderstorm and got enough rain to hopefully settle the dust a bit. We are going to be a little cooler—80s instead of 90s.

Pam—we have to distract the Hooligans with treats so we can leave the farm without them. I’d love to be going with you to your guild classes! Let us know who the speaker is and how you liked it! I definitely agree about not renting to family. I hate the rentals. We have another one opening at the end of May, so more cleaning and repairing. The one now is the biggest one—2 Baths, 3 BRs. Have I mentioned, I hate the rentals? LOL! People just do not take care of a place that isn’t theirs. I know they NEVER clean a toilet or anything else. It’s sickening in more ways than one!!!

Tina—I know this Mother’s Day was difficult for you. I’m so glad your family did nice things for you.

Becca—so glad everything was lovely with the wedding! Of course, we knew it would be! It’s always iffy with outdoor events. It’s always satisfying to have a successful event behind you. So glad your DH did well!

Jana—You definitely have a large family! Ours is so small in comparison. The more the merrier!!! I need to write some checks. Ugh! That play structure will have the GKs at your house all the time, along with all the kids in the neighborhood! I always had a garage and yard full of kids when DD was little. At least I knew where MY kid was! I’m not sure about some of the others. I dispensed a lot of kool-aid and cookies.

Irish—hope all is well in your area! How are those PetsMart fur balls? There are two of the cutest feral kittens under Mom’s porch. One is a pastel calico, and the other a beige tabby with white paws and bib. I thought of you and your kitties.

I’m making more hummingbird nectar—it’s an every day make, 8 cups at a time. They are so busy! I also have the orioles eating oranges and grape jelly. I’m amazed at how much they consume, too. Later this summer, I’ll make up to 24 cups of hummer food a day.

DH should be driving in any minute. Yesterday I ended abruptly when he came home and wanted to get the show on the road after brunch.

Dinner tonight… something soft and easy for me—still on call waiting for my dentist. DH will have something with ground beef. I need to take Lyn up on her suggestions earlier this week… Just sayin’!

Bon appétit!

Good early afternoon from warm but suddenly overcast, SW. Pa...All morning it's been sunny but who knows what might happen now, this is Pa.....

Chickie, so glad to see you get the table ready...I came yesterday and had a message semi written and my friend came to get me for lunch and when I got back home, all I could think of was a nap, lol....I remember when Kevin had rentals and said never again...But, then when his youngest started college, he bought a big house and had a bunch of DGS's Lacrosse/college buddies living there...DGS has graduated and he's thinking of taking on the role of renter...It's a good thing if you get the right people but as you said, too many just won't take care of someone else's property....I've kind of backed off with my Petsmart duties...Right now, we seem to have lots of help, which is good, and since I no longer visit the home, I don't take as many trips that way..But, they know to call if they need me...You know, if I'd be near your Mother's, I'd probably be crawling under that porch....

Becca, I loved hearing how nice the wedding was and was so happy, the weather cooperated...I've been to 2 outdoor weddings, Cari's had to be moved inside because of rain and the other was at a lake and it was so cold and windy, I thought we were going to die...At one point, the flowers that had been on the altar were blown into the lake...Boy, were we glad to move inside for the dinner.....Do think about you often and hope all is well.....

Tina, also think about you...Having the family near by is special....

Today, I'm not sure what all I'm going to be doing...Nick stopped down again last night (what a joy) and said, he'd be back today..Yesterday both Terry and his wife had to go back to work so Nick went for groceries and then made dinner for them....I do have my summer dining room curtains on the line and hopefully, I'll get those windows and the kitchen windows done today...The neighbor just finished mowing the grass so maybe later, I'll get out the weed whacker and see what damage I can do....

I do have a bit of good news...My oldest son, who's wife had passed away 12 years ago has been seeing someone...Of course he's kept it very quiet, probably thinking he was betraying his late wife...But, this would be the best thing ever...He did tell Kevin, he really hasn't even held her hand but some people have him walking down the aisle...He is 62 and his youngest DD is soon getting married so this will be good for him......

And as far as my dinner, I'm thinking maybe I'll mix up some meat balls and sauce and put it in the slow cooker for when ever.....But, who knows, if Nick decides to cook again, I might just invite myself....

You all have a great day............

Happy eating.................

Hello everyone.Overcast & 70s today,much better.

Chickie We learned never to have rentals. My DFIL had them.Plus when we were in the Furniture business we saw too much of replacing what renters destroyed. If you get good ones great. And all that hard labor too.No fun.

Irish The wedding couldnt have been more perfect. We left after the meal. But they had fireworks, dancing ,& a tribute to America since the groom & 2 of his groomsmen served in Army together. They sang the National Anthem & Levis cake was all representing our Country.Had an American flag on it.There was a beautiful backdrop of Mtn ranges.
I know you are so excited Nick is there. And glad DS is seeing someone. My DS never dated until his were all thru school.Hope it works out for the best.

Pam Its wonderful you are close to your Mother. My Denise only lived close to us for 2 yrs. With her DH in the ministry she had to follow.Closest she has lived was 11/2 hrs but now its 31/2.

Jana We have 45 now in our family.I would never have dreamed it possible. And with just 3 children.20 Great Grands. Our DGS that lives in WA never gets to come to our gatherings but he was at his DBs Wedding.Enjoy yours. We sure enjoyed Keith when he was growing up.

I must go finish my planting. With the cooler temps.
Its burger ,baked beans salad. Becca

Hi, everybody. It was rainy earlier, and is now sunny and warm. I am working on an audit from last week at one of my agency's homes. It is a lot of double checking, but for a good reason. We also had a meeting where my DH and I learned about the extra duties we will be getting when a co-worker goes on baby leave. LOL, she gets paid more than us. We will be doing our jobs and hers for our same money. Some where that makes sense.

I picked up some pretty batiks for some blocks Mom and I are making for the guild's outgoing president. We are doing a churndash with a signature in the middle. My friend owns a quilt shop, and opens for me, sometimes when I need something outside of her normal hours. Not that I needed it. I have plenty. I just wanted some.

The gentleman coming to guild is John Kubiniec. He has a book, called A New Spin on Drunbkard's Path, that Mom is going to the class for on Friday. The Saturday class is a lecture where we will use different examples to talk about ways to quilt them. I am going to that one with Mom. And we have a lecture Thursday night at guild. I don't remember what it is about.

I had chicken and noodles and applesauce for dinner at Mom's. I am pilphering some for DH. He can have it after he gets home from his friend's house.

Last night, we cheated and had tuna fish fish fish fish!
