SUPPER CLUB - Monday 16 April

Post by FarmChick » Mon Apr 16, 2018 4:47 am

Good morning! I think Mary is camping today—must be sleeping in or without internet. You know what that means, Ladies—we can have fun menus while the cat’s away! Just sayin’… (I do like to live dangerously!)

EDIT-- UPDATE: Yes, Mary is out in the boonies camping and has no internet. She said to tell you all hi from her, and I promised to relay her greetings. (Did ya catch the part about no internet? Think of that while planning menus... yum, yum!!!)

Things are looking up here. After several days of yucky feelings, DH got up and took himself to coffee this morning! Hallelujah!!! His discomfort was from what must have been sitting in the bed or shot in the hiney—not the incisions! Crazy! He sure wasn’t a happy camper (and no one else was, either)! I think we have turned a corner. Now for hydration and exercise… easier said than done. I’m learning to nag, nag, nag after kind and sweet persistence, threats of IVs, and coercion doesn’t work…

I plan to get back to my yoga and walking tomorrow, now that he will be going to coffee. His coffee time is "my time". Everything has been on hold although I did walk out yesterday afternoon in the COLD and check a calf--we got a new baby! I had a photo come up from "this day last year"--Mom's buckeye tree was in full bloom. It isn't this year for sure!

Becky—we didn’t get the snow and sleet although everything was frozen in the bird baths. I’m sure I saw a few snowflakes in the air here a time or two. The wind was horrible! It did keep us from heavy frost Saturday night, but it howled and keened around the house and kept the dogs restless.

Irish—have fun!!! Soak up some sun for the frozen North!

Becky—no hummers yet… I keep watching. I hope they stay south until it warms some. We should be in 60s later today although it froze last night. I have a feeder out just in case!

Mary—hope you are having a wonderful time. I will try desperately to behave myself, but it won’t be easy.

Linda—your quilt is beautiful! I love the violet colors, and the pattern is so sweet… must look it up and make one, or at least add to bucket list. What’s truly amazing is the story behind the quilts—the generousness of (especially) the donors, but also of the quilters (both piecers and quilters). It’s truly special!
Jana—congratulations on Lila’s appearance! She sounds like a doll!!! Be sure to spoil her royally! (As if you needed encouragement!)

Pam—I used to wait to do my taxes, too. I used to work for a CPA—all done by hand back then. Just a caution… if you do your taxes on internet, keep a copy in a safe place of your work or password to the program. The year before our house fire, I had used Turbo Tax. The fire destroyed the book with my passwords, computer, etc. It was difficult to get records and past returns, but we managed with the help of a CPA who now does everything for us. (We have farm and rentals, and I am not up on everything any more.)

Dinner here—yes, the same ole boring… salad, soup, broth, jell-o…

Bon appétit!

Good afternoon from a grey, dreary, SW. Pa...We did have rain, last night and again this morning but so far, no snow, which is OK by me...Or at least wait until I "git out of town"!

Chickie, thank you for setting the table and I 2nd that advice on "while the cat's away"....Girls, do your thing, quick, while you have the chance........By the time she gets internet, I'll be hiding out down south (maybe having some "mac n cheese", lol).....
So glad to hear your DH is up and about...To me, that would be major surgery and to be able to go have coffee, I think that's amazing...Always did know you were a good nurse....And boy I am sure going to try to soak up those rays, even packed my bathing suit...

Becca, please, please keep that snow in your neighborhood, at least for another day...Yep, tomorrow, bright and early, I will be on that big bird headed south...When I checked in this morning, I got a super seat, close to the front, just in case the pilot needs help driving...
Hate to hear about the tornado..Terry's house (the one he's selling) is about 20 miles north....Mother Nature really does need a hormone replacement......

I had planned on visiting with my sister but decided, better stay away, so we'll visit by phone...Terry is stopping after work and getting his list of "to dos" while I'm away...I hate to ask the kids to do anything, they're all so busy.... Need to write up my instructions for my "cat sitter"...I have to laugh when I hear someone say, cats are easy to take care, just leave dry food and water and they'll be fine....OH NO THEY WON'T! At least mine wouldn't be fine....Jake might be fine, Kelly will probably hide and not eat for a couple of days and then we have BabyGirl who needs pampered, a warm body to sleep on, belly rubs and probably will only want treats....The only other option is to find a place down there and take them with me....

Did finally throw some things in the suitcase and need to put a run on the last of the dust bunnies....I just hope Terry doesn't expect dinner because it might just be a cheese sandwich....

You all have a great day...I'm not even going to say "try to behave yourself" while I'm gone....Which means, do something special but don't count on me for bail money (I know a few neat stores in Ft. Myers).....

Happy eating................

As you all know, I live close to Pittsburgh and as you all have probably heard, I am a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are now in the playoffs...The Pens beat up on the Flyers again last night and hopefully will keep rolling and bring that Stanley Cup back to the "burgh".....GO PENS!

Hi all....
It is still very cold and windy here. I think spring forgot us!
Miriam, glad Doyal is home, and things are going as well as they are. I know how some men are when they aren't feeling their best. At least he is going to his coffee!
Becca, my practical jokers have help from their Poppa on the fake rodents and snakes thy prank with! I don't think I would knowingly buy them those sort of toys.....but, over the years, they grew out of that, now it is always something else, it seems..... JR got them a snake one time, at a craft festival, of all places! It is wooden, and it has so many cuts in it, that it actually looks like it slithers....now, why would someone make something like that, let alone someone else buy it?
Mary, have a fabulous time camping.
Irish, enjoy your trip.
Jana, smooch the baby for me too, as long as you are doing it anyway!
I had an enjoyable weekend, for the most part. Lots of stuff done, of course, not enough, but it is what it is.....Kids were gone or in and out most of the weekend. Apparently, we even had an overnight guest, didn't know it until she walked out of the bedroom to go home....
Tonight, am thinking some sort of soup or a comfort casserole of some sort....maybe chicken and rice....will depend on what Ericka wants. She is the one with the restricted diet, but she doesn't eat well on her good days, so she may have already ate something or just want one of her shakes.....Depends on her!
You all have a great evening.

Happy CAMPING to Mary. A nice change of pace.

Chickie, my husband actually worked for H&R Block several years, but I am the one wo does the taxes (with the help of Taxslayer). I am the one who keeps track of the paperwork. Although I could have saved us a couple hundred dollars more if I had bothered to keep track of reciepts for small repairs and mower gas and stuff like that.

Irish, Go PENS. (I don't really watch hockey, but am willing to encourage anybody rooting for their favorite team.) Have fun in the south!

Becky, your chicken and rice sounds good. I have turkey in the freezer and leftover rice, maybe it will become turkey rice soup with onions, diced tomatoes, carrots, celery, and a bottle of beer. I like beer in my brothy soups, and I have a nice dark one (Black and Tan).

Becca, I envy you you girl to make dollies for. At least I have boys to make car quilts for. It may be time for more quilts for them. Can't have too many, you know. Jana, you have two girls to make dollies for and put in frills and lace! So much fun.

Good afternoon!

Lila is home now. Aaron was on his way over to the other grandparents to bring Gracie home as well.

Pam - I have always done the taxes in this family. Michael signs where I tell him . LOL! I have 4 little girls to sew dollys for. Also there are 6 grandsons. It is only very recently that we got the little girls. Many years it was all boys! Car quilts, farm quilts and bugs too.

Chickie - cheers for Doyle getting up and out! Watching my niece and nephew after their surgery, they have so much more energy!

Becky - if there were those kind of practical jokes in this house, there would be the rath of grandma - I hate mice and especially snakes. Mine pull other kinds, like putting a rubber band on the sprayer head on my sink. Turn on the water and voile, you get wet!

Irish - enjoy your trip - with all my wind here, I might just get there first!

Dinner - humm - does someone know the recipe for I am not in the mood to cook? Probably will be a shrimp stir fry. See, the head cat is off to play and we mice play!

Enjoy,
Jana

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA again. I've been helping Frankie with our outside chicken brooder, I redwood stained the whole thing :) the 6 chicks went into it this morning, they seem very happy!
Jana, congratulations!
Mary, happy camping!
Chickie, so glad Doyle is doing better and you get your you time back!
Pam, I laughed at the fish fry posts ;)
Becky, funny to have a house guest and not know it.
Becca, sounds like you need some of our heat, we're in the 80's again and we have loads of Hummers!
Irish, enjoy Florida! You can stop here next, it's very warm weather here ;)
I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, of I did sorry.
I have pot roast in the slow cooker, Dad is coming for supper. Frankie is over at Dad's helping him install his brand new cooler on the house....he's been melting without one.....and here in the dirt storms they're a must since we can't open windows on those days.
I haven't done any sewing....just not interested in it yet.....in time I'm sure I will be again.
Maria and Kevin picked out a place here in town for their wedding and the after the wedding party. Matthew is getting so big!
Preston had to have dental surgery last Tuesday at our hospital, He was totally out and under anesthesia for 2 hours 10 minutes.....it was a long 2 hours 10 minutes for me, we had a niece die at the same age for a minor surgery like that before. Preston is doing great and is doing so much better with all his new dental work teeth, he's eating way better!
Easton will be starting school next year. Jazmyne is leaving elementary school this next year......major changes are coming.
Thank you for the anniversary congrats, it was our 33rd.
Kevin is finished working out of town for about a year so we went and picked up our little travel trailer he was using....we seem to be on the go lately.
I think of you all and hope you're doing great!
Tina

Morning all:

Good, while Mary is away I can tell you that DH made the best shrimp quesadillas the other night. And he makes the best fish tacos too. His cooking is so good that I really don't like to go out to dinner anymore.

Reading what you are all involved in makes me tired....you are all so busy. But then you all have family close by. Since my family is far away I just have my plants and birdies to enjoy. We have been watching the baby mockingbirds fledge and slowly make their way hopping between rose bushes down the yard. We had thunderstorms, hail, wind and rain yesterday so I hope they haven't frozen to death. Mom and Dad seemed to be searching for 1 of them this morning. DH and I take our coffee each morning in the new sun room that gives us a view of the backyard. Both our hummingbird feeders, one in front and one in back are being used. And I saw a Blue Jay with a mouth full of sticks. So much for the morning's entertainment.

Today I am going to see the ophthalmologist for a routine visit. This really feels weird because for 40 years my DH has taken care of our vision needs and only sent me to an ophthalmologist for problems he couldn't handle. So I have only trusted him with my vision. Now that he has retired and closed his practice I have had to find someone new. The same goes for him, he has always taken care of his own vision needs. So we are both going to the dr that he referred most of his patients to... me to get the exam and he to watch and see if he wants to go to this one too.

Well, that is it for the day. Prayers for all those in need and wishes for all you busy folks to have the energy to keep up with it all. Have a great day!

**Linda
