SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Feb 12th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Feb 12, 2018 4:13 am

Happy Birthday, Mr. Lincoln! My personal favorite president!

Yesterday was a real mixture of things. We took Scottie to the Bark Park - 100 acres of wooded trails. He got to run and sniff to his heart's content and we got a good workout. When we came home I cleaned the cabinet under the kitchen sink and my dresser drawers. Then Bill found leftover wallpaper border that we'd put in our old trailer and wanted to put some up in the new trailer. So, we spent about an hour doing that. I worked in the yard for a few hours, and then we had another campfire until it chilled down to about 40*. I did laundry through the evening while watching Olympics. I have discovered if I wash clothes in the evening, Bill will help fold and put away! The W/D are right there off the family room so it's nice and handy.

Today is chiropractor and maybe I'll spend a bit of time in my sewing room, working on a wallhanging of my own design, trying to depict a scene from a photo I took while hiking in the Rain Forest a few years ago. I'm not much of an artist so it's not coming together as neatly as I'd envisioned. Oh well. I'll keep trying. If the afternoon is nice again, I'll probably do a little more yard work, too.

IRISH, sounds like Scout has Gramma all figured out! Here, dogs are encouraged to visit folks in care facilities. In fact, some even have resident dogs and cats. But Scout sounds like he might be a bit too much sweetie-dog to handle in a setting like that! I hate to "pull a Kathy" but I have daffodils budded and ready to pop any day! All my other bulb flowers are up about 4-5 inches - bluebells, tulips, grape hyacinths, & lily of the valley, and my violets are in bloom.

JANA - I'm betting both your bruising on your foot and your little dress are coming along nicely! What's the final report on your JN quilt? Did the class end? Did you opt for the professional quilting?

TINA - so sorry to hear about all the sickness at your house! What kind of sick? N/V? Respiratory? is it the dreaded flu? Seems there's a lot of everything making the rounds. You really got a lot of yard work done yesterday! In your case, I'm going to skip the interview and hire you on the spot to come do mine!

BECKY - I hope your ice is all melted by the time you read this! We had a terrible ice storm in 1996. Whole trees were toppled by the weight of the ice, and lots of branches came down. It was eerie at work on night shift. The hospital is across the street from a big city park and we could hear trees snapping all night long. Pray yours wasn't so bad. I'll be thinking of your poor DH tomorrow. I hope they will put him out for all that oral surgery. BAck in the late 80's my FIL had all his teeth pulled at once (under anesthesia!) and when he woke up he already had new dentures in his mouth.

BECCA - no problem about the yard work! We'll park you and Irish in chairs to tend the campfire and I'll put Tina to work on the yard! She's obviously got it all down and seems to be a good worker! lol!

Last night I was so tired come supper time. I got a little ornery and thought - how come it's MY job to have to come up with supper ideas and then cook after a hard day of manual labor? HE'S retired! and he rode the tractor and sat and waited while I did all the raking up of piles and piles of leaves and winter blow down! So I asked him what HIS plan was. In a half-hour he was back with Subway sandwiches! lol! And did they taste good!

Tonite - I think the one dish tortellini thing will be a 'go'. Kielbasa, onions, peppers, torties, tomatoes, basil, garlic, in olive oil and parmesan. yum! Can't wait!

How's it looking on your supper front?

Good morning! 11 degrees here this morning with super heavy frost. It’s beautiful, but oh so cold! Pocket Lint is here just about every morning for her bucket of feed. Annie and Blondie are weaned, so no bottles in the cold—just feed and alfalfa hay.

As I drove to town Saturday, it was “iffy” weather—some stuff in the air… not snow, not sleet, just “stuff”. The humidity was 85%, and I think it was mainly humidity. After coffee with my friend, I had lunch with Mom. She said soup would be good, so I went to get the Mexicalli (chicken tortilla) soup and saw they had clam chowder on their menu as well for soup du jour. I got a cup of each. Well, when I got back to Mom’s, it was too funny. I told her I’d gotten the tortilla soup and had “clam cho…” when she jumped on it like a cat on tuna! She said she doesn’t get it with BIL cooking as he is allergic to all things sea. So. I scored! She loved the soup. I took batting and backing selections for her placemats. I’m taking more selections later in the week. And, more batting. She’s making 4 placemats instead of the two I thought she was making.

I got home just in time to tuck inside, as when I was feeding the calves their evening meal and getting them in their pen, it was getting SLICK! Yesterday morning, everything was covered with a 1/8” glaze—just as slick as several inches! I fed the calves including Pocket Lint, started DH’s car to melt the ice, and walked down to the end of the lane and opened the gate for him. It was too cold and windy and nasty to open it Saturday evening.

Yesterday was cold and gloomy. I got through the laundry and had a terrible headache, so I spent most of the day hiding under blankets on the sofa only getting up to change out the laundry loads.

It’s sunny today, so I feel much better! After I fed all the calves and started DH’s car for him, I came in and did my yoga practice and here I am. Boomer is sitting on my lap. He can be cuddly on HIS terms. He’s a funny little character.

We have an appointment this afternoon at Pittsburg, so I want to stop and see DD. If DH is amenable, maybe we can all go to dinner, although it would be late when we got back. I may just stop at her work for a quick visit. I’ve saved her a box of Valentine cookies and want to leave them for her.

So, dinner is rather up in the air here. If we don’t eat out, I have sandwich materials for DH and my faux pho for my bowl.

Bon appétit!

Good Monday/Lincoln's Birthday morning:

After having warm days (up to 80 on Friday) woke up to dark, cloudy skies. Hoping for rain, but there is only a chance, which usually means NONE here. It will only be in the 50's today.

Hope all you sickies get better soon. This has been a bad year for illnesses.

Not much going on here. I went to my quilt guild meeting Sat. and it was only so so in interest. The program was about the color wheel. Very basic information and we got to paint part of the wheel, shades of 8th grade art. At home I am working on completing the donation quilt I started at the birthday retreat last week. The blocks are all made, now it is the sashing. Not sure I really like it. I discovered that using a layer cake has too many fabrics (although they are coordinated) and this quilt would have looked better with just 2-4 fabrics. Also finished up restoring the cases for the 2 Featherweights I have restored and am going to sell. I will also be teaching a Featherweight maintenance class in March at our quilt store in town.

DH started cutting back 10 overgrown pittisporum bushes in the front yard and realized he is getting too old to do this. It took him all day to do 3 bushes. So he went across the street to the gardener he saw there and asked if he would cut all our bushes in front. The guy came back the next day and had them all cut and the debris raked up, in 2 hours! Looks great! I told DH we are at the age where we can PAY for services now. He doesn't have to do it all.

Absolutely nothing on the calendar for this week. DH wants to go to the zoo and maybe a movie, just to get out of the house, so we shall see when that happens. Waiting for the warmer weather to come back.

Well, you all keep doing what you are doing...that is life. Hugs to you all and prayers for those in need.

Good morning all.
We are still mostly iced in. Not too bad around the cars and the top half of the drive, but the bottom is still a sheen of ice. Hoping today will be better. JR and grands treated the bottom half of the drive yesterday, but no sun, so didn't work too well. But, today is another day, the sun is out and the treatment is now starting to work, so maybe we will get out yet today! So, we are home today, and so are the grands, no school. There are a lot of kids that live on gravel roads in our county, and they are all ice covered. Hope they can go back soon, but like DGS said, this is so cool, and we are off Friday and Monday. Extra long weekends!
Tonight, I think we will have meatloaf, since I am here today, and have the time to fix something rather than just broiling or frying....Maybe scalloped potatoes too.....Hope you all have a plan, I have starting washing my fabric acquisition. Boy,, this will take a while!
Have a good day....Becky

Good morning :)
Mary, they all have strep I guess. I've been wiping my house down like a crazy woman! Scotty had a fun day! I had that same conversation with Frankie the other day, I didn't get subway....sadness.
Chickie, how cute about your mom and the chowder :) You're weather is too cold for me!
Linda, the zoo sounds fun, I'd love to go....I'm not a summer time zoo person, whenit's in the 100's I don't like looking at the animals.
Becky, sounds like you're making the best of being iced in :)
The leftover soup will probably be lunch today so I've got to think about supper, maybe I'll just open a can of soup for Frankie :) and salad for me.
I have an appointment to get my hair trimmed this afternoon, is during nap time so Frankie can "watch" the boys.

Good afternoon from sunny, melting snow and hopefully getting warmer, SW. Pa...Yep, we woke up to about 2 inches of that white stuff...Yesterday was sweat shirt weather, today is heavy coat (so far) and tomorrow is to be warmer...It's no wonder so many people are sick....

Gonna breeze through and wish everyone a super day...Like Tina I'm going to try to get a haircut later this afternoon, that is after I take Scout for his McDonald's run...I think I'm going to miss my buddy but, no, I'm still not going to get a dog...

Visited with Jim yesterday and he was very quiet, hardly opened his eyes the whole time I was there but I'm hoping he knew I was...

Not much happening, normal Monday uglies...For dinner, I have stew cooking in the crock pot and it smells so good....And tomorrow I might mix up some meatballs and sauce, use the crock pot and have it ready for when Terry and Theresa get back from their trip...If it's too late, they can take it home with them for the next day.....

You all have that super day.....

Happy eating.............

Eagle Update:
Those Ft. Myers eagles have been putting on quite a show with their flapping and finally figuring out how to use those big clown feet...Here in our area, we have 2 nests, each with cameras and both nests are looking as if they're ready for eggs...Going to be a good season, eagle wise......
