SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Jan 17

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Jan 17, 2018 4:23 am

Good morning!

Boy, did we sleep hard last night! We got half of our big room ready for painting, which will start today. The ceiling will get one coat of white and the walls will get 2 coats of off-white. I have chiropractor at 10:00 and haircut to follow so it will be about noon when we get started, cuz I'm sure Bill isn't going to do anything without me! I hope we can get this half of the room done by end of Thursday. We take Albert to Seattle for a procedure on Friday and I'm going to give us the weekend off before tackling the second half of the room. I blame IRISH for getting me into the painting mood and BECCA for dangling cupboard cleaning in front of me.

IRISH, I'm so sorry you are facing all this with Jim. I know it breaks your heart. It's awful when he's always been your support system and now he can't 'be there' for you. Even though he is. Our Colorado friend whose wife was lost for 1-1/2 days last November? She did it again over the weekend and was gone for 27 hours - over night in the hills about 8,000 ft elevation. She was found cold and bloody nose and had a stint in the ER, but is home again. As for Bill researching cars for you, if anyone mentions they are even THINKING of buying something, Bill is off researching it! You can't stop him! lol! And here's a hint - when we bought our last three vehicles, he shopped e-Bay and car shopping sights around the country. He found a dealer in NC selling the car we wanted for many thousands less than for here. (different parts of the country have different pricing we learned). We were going to fly back and get the car and have a nice trip home. But he called all the dealers here offering them to beat the NC price. And one did! We saved $7,000 on the car. The pick-up, we flew to Chicago to get and took a week to drive home, paid for restaurants and hotels and STILL saved $8.000. So, shop around. You may find a worth-while deal - and a local dealer willing to match or beat it.

BECCA - I'm only blaming you for the cabinet cleaning. The painting is on IRISH! lol!

CHICKIE - you are SOOO cold!! My feet get chilled when you post your temps! I'm happy you had a day off from dog duty! And even happier that you are working on Valentines!

BECKY - and you are even colder!! Next time you want a 'me day', don't take it on a school holiday! lol!!

JANA - I can smell good smells coming from your kitchen! Our paint is off white, same as before. There is lots of wood in that room covering the foundation which goes up about 4 feet, with a 6 inch wide shelf at that height. We'll paint the top half of the walls. The accent wall will be papered in a red/green/cream plaid with a border of pine cones at the top. The border will run around the entire room at the top. We weren't going to re-paper, but that wall has never been textured and Bill didn't fancy texturing it himself, so we are opting to go with wallpaper again. One neat thing about this room is that all the trim wood, window sills, and that shelf at the top of the paneling was milled by my brother, Albert, in his portable mill from cedar logs he cut himself. I love it!

I haven't heard much from TINA but I expect they are busy getting her dad's house all set up again.

Supper tonight is going to be some kind of pasta. I have spaghetti sauce in the freezer and Bill will like that. Tomorrow - chicken or chops!

Whatcha got cookin' in your kitchen tonite?

Good morning! It’s -4 actual temperatures. Brrr! My hands were so cold, even with all my gloves. Yesterday was the ugly side of farming… The rest of the calves were loaded for market along with a couple of cows. Blackie and Pocket Lint were in the last 8 calves. Of course, I cried. I wasn’t going to, but I did. Well… DS1 who is DH’s partner and total caregiver other than me is a big softy. He knew it was killing me and he offloaded Pocket Lint and two other calves… one may be Pocket Lint’s twin, and the other is Phantom—a little chocolate calf with a white mask much like Phantom of the Opera. Her mom is Cindy Lauper cow. She was a very late arrival last summer. In my heart, I do understand about Blackie. She had a lot of neurological problems at birth and for several weeks, and it wouldn’t be good to pass on to a calf if she survived childbirth. So… I do have Pocket Lint! She got A LOT of love this morning as she was waiting for her feed this morning… all by herself. (Sob!) I’m not sure, but I think Annie and Blondie are going to be mine. I’ll probably go through this with Blondie, as she has also had numerous physical problems and is still below weight by a considerable amount. Have you noticed, I really do love the animals… all of them!

Yesterday I worked on the heart blocks… I sewed and was so pleased. Then I frogged… I had made all the halves the same. Thankfully I hadn’t done any cutting of the HSTs or I would be really unhappy. I’ll be in there re-sewing-- correctly… I hope!

Mary—earlier before our snow I noticed I had daffodils peaking up. I’m sure they went back in the ground! The snow that was so pretty is now squishy and noisy—no moisture left after the high winds. Fie! I do not have time for deep cleaning!!! It needs it, but I have 200+ wedding invitations to address in calligraphy, Valentine blocks and Christmas presents to make—all immediately!

Becca—so glad you are able to stay warm! I’ve been through power outages for over a week with no heat source in 0-degree weather. It was miserable.

Irish—I am a pickup truck gal, but the more I hear from Bill and you… if I ever replace my truck, a Subaru SUV may be in my future. Well, that is IF I can find a dealer… there is probably one in Wichita; not sure about Joplin. Oh, my heart is with you as you go through the care decisions. I know your heart is breaking… love and hugs to you and my well-padded shoulder… I love the animals when we are down. They DO know!!! I miss my kitties, but the dogs sure know how to give comfort, too.

Jana—we are going to have a couple of days of reprieve from the cold, then it will return. I think this is pay back by Mother Nature for a mild winter last year. At least maybe the ticks won’t survive. Last summer was terrible for ticks!

Becky—oh, my! I’m glad I wasn’t out in your wind chill!!! When I come in, my face is frozen along with my hands! School was cancelled here yesterday (they were out Monday).

Becca—I always like your dinners! When it gets warmer here, I’ll sit DH down and remove some of his grizzle.

Dinner here… DH will get some steak. I will be having TOFU! NO MEAT when I’m missing my babies!!! It would feel cannibalistic to me. I have a recipe for pho using tofu and noodles, and I think I have all the ingredients I need for it… at least what I can find here. I may be substituting a little.

Bon appétit!

Oops! I think Mary was typing at the time I set the table. Great minds or hungry people... Have a super day!

Good afternoon from sunny, still cold, snowy SW. Pa.....BUT, it is going to get warm, I just know it.....

Not going to be able to stay, we have a new development...I was able to talk to the Hospice people last night and will be meeting with them in a day or so...BUT, got a call about 1:00 this morning and Jim had fallen and they needed to take him to the local ER...There was no way I could go (all this excitement has kept me in the bathroom) so they promised they would let me know...Well, all night waiting for calls, making calls, this morning, they had decided to admit him...No breaks but some of his numbers were off and they needed to monitor him before sending him back...I had called my sister and told her I wouldn't be going with her and she was taking my DDIL, Cindy as her co pilot....And then the more I looked at the roads and stayed away from the bathroom, I think I'm taking a ride...I just need to see him, even if it's just for 5 minutes...Need for him to know I'm there....So, that's what happening in my life...I really could do without all this so called "excitement".....

Even the word dinner makes my tummy do flip flops, so we won't mention it......

We'll make it through and tomorrow is another day....Going to be much better......

You all stay warm, stay safe...............

Becca, I hope you and your DH stay warm and be well.

Mary, your wallpaper is gorgeous!

Good afternoon!

Ethan is here and we just finished baking a batch of brownie cookies. One of Grandpa's favorites, but alas, we are in desparate need of a couple gallons of moo juice.

Mary - love the wallpaper! You are so lucky to have that woodwork done by your brother. It is a treasure.

Irish - my heart aches for you. Lots of prayers, at least I can do that much, since my arms are a little short to reach that far for a big hug.

Chickie - it's nice to have soft hearted children!

Becca - still waiting on my soup! Maybe tonight.

Tina - I guess the worst of the move is over. Did Frankie retire at the end of the year?

Well, Ethan is bugging for attention,

Enjoy,
Jana

Hi ladies! Late again.... I can't share. What's for supper... it's the forbidden word. Happen to be my DH favorite. It's called Swai. Mildest I have ever found. Fixing fried potatoes, salad, and corn. I love your wall paper. Looks terrific.
So sorry for all the troubles that everyone is dealing with. Also the terrible cold. Even brutal cold here in South Texas.
See you all tomorrow, hopefully earlier.

OK Tina, it's the middle of the night, did you remember yet? I always remember, when I can't wake up anyone to ask! Then I forget again! LOL
