Psalms 129
Too many Christians seek to straddle the fence and find some middle ground of compromise in order to be accepted by neighbors and colleagues at work. No one wants to appear pious and judgmental, and the pressure to fit in as one of the "good ole guys" is not always subtle. To resist that temptation in order to be true to the Lord is to be subjected to ridicule and disdain by others. The secular media is becoming more blatant in their scathing verbal persecution of people of faith.
Defensiveness in counterproductive and our only resource is to trust in the Lord and His righteousness. We must be faithful to stand for truth, uncompromising in our convictions, regardless of the consequences--trusting the Lord for vindication. We must be confident that one day the cords of their power and influence will be severed. The false hope they place in humanistic values of self-sufficiency and self-gratification will wither as grass on the housetop. The philosophy of life to which they are committed will produce no fruit. And when they eventually stand before the judgment of the Lord, there will be no one to bless them.
