SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Dec 22

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Dec 22, 2017 4:12 am

Good morning!

We are 37* and drizzly. If we were on a hill we might be having some flakes. But sadly we are only about 150 elevation so we get rain.

I've been sewing blocks for the CA fire victims. The block pattern in the link that Izzy posted a few days ago is kind of weird, but then, when you lay out several together a neat quilt design emerges. I like it and will put it in my favorite block file. Plus, I can use up scraps as small as 4-1/2".

JANA - Scottie was 7 weeks when we got him. We had a little folding fence that opened out to make a little pen of about 4 square feet. We kept him in that some of the time. Bill even napped in the pen with him the first couple days. We had a kennel just big enough for him to turn around for night time and in there we had an old towel that his mom had slept on. But he whined and I couldn't stand that so I got him out of the kennel and brought him in bed with us where he promptly snuggled in and slept. And four years later he's still there! lol! So that's all I got. I love your son for being so kind-hearted. And this is going to be Tanner's best Christmas EVER!! It's enhancing mine, for sure!

IRISH - every few years I get ambitious and wash all my cabinets with Murphy's Oil Soap for Wood. It does brighten and refresh them. In late 1989 I had the cabinet doors refaced from the fussy dark ones of the 70's to flat oak doors. Then about 6 years ago Bill refinished them and added "kitchen jewelry" (pulls) to all the doors and drawers. It's probably time to wash them again. do you hire out? How's the pip watch going?

BECCA - sounds like you are all prepared for weather. a good feeling to know you can survive just fine for a few days, isn't it. How is DH?

Just want to let you all know that Tina's mom was found unresponsive yesterday afternoon and airlifted to Las Cruces. She is on a ventilator and life-sustaining meds. She is septic and her BP is low and unstable. When the paramedics arrived there was no pulse or heart rate so doctors don't know how long Mom was without oxygen. Best guess is 6-8 minutes. More tests will probably be done today to determine the scope of her condition. To top it off, Tina's cell phone is sometimes working, sometimes not.

Now, as to supper, I never made our chicken noodle soup last night because friends asked us over for impromptu wine, cheese, and pinwheel sandwiches. So soup might happen tonite unless other friends want to meet at our favorite Mexican watering hole late this afternoon.

Good morning! The cold arrived last night… 40 today if we are lucky. That’s miserable after sunny and over 60 yesterday. I had to go take care of Choc and Maggie this morning and come back and feed the calves. I was definitely ready for that first (and second) cup of coffee!

Today I’m cleaning house in anticipation for the crowd on Monday. Yesterday I got the comfort quilt half quilted then cleaned the refrigerator. It looks so good! I didn’t get to the freezer side, and it can wait. I’ll be making caramel corn this evening and corn casserole and beer bread in the morning for the dinner and then evening get together tomorrow. I have chocolate chip cookies in the freezer. This is DH’s late wife’s family, and it’s always fun. I still have no clue how many will be here on Monday. Maybe I’ll find out more tomorrow.

My heart goes out to Tina and her family.

I made chili for dinner last night, and I think there may be enough for this evening. I may have to add water to it for both of us… maybe some veggies and call it taco soup…

Bon appétit!

Good afternoon from a sort of wet, dreary (but no snow), SW. Pa....If it wasn't for so many traveling, I would love to see snow but better without.....

Mary, I've used Murphy's stuff different times but the fat furry kid who will remain nameless always wants to see what I'm putting on her plate and had put scratches on one of the bottom doors so that's why I got this stuff..And what a difference, took care of the scratches and looks great...I think I have to give you a test on my NC kids...Stephan is the one who has enlisted BUT, he doesn't leave until the 2nd of Jan. He'll be flying to Texas for his basic and then he said, he'll have a choice of quite a few states he'll be stationed..He'll also be in an engineering program, which he took in college...Nick is the one with all the time off...He doesn't go back to school until the 18th of Jan...We are really hoping he gets the internship with Terry's company and I'm also hoping, he decides to transfer to a college up here...Time will tell!
I did see that Tina had posted on FB that her cell wasn't working...I feel so bad for her and the family...You just wonder how much more she can handle...Many, many prayers for her and the family...

Chickie, sounds like you are, once again, busy as ever....A clean fridge, that's an accomplishment and one job I hate...I've been trying to work on the freezer and it's just a small one, on top of the fridge but I think things multiply in there....Not sure what are temps will be today but it sure isn't the 75 I keep hoping for....

Becca, I know you, too, are busy...Glad to hear you'll be nice and toasty if something happens...So far up here, the cookie person hasn't gotten around to making any...Not sure what she's waiting for except maybe hoping someone will drop some off, lol....Have a good day....

Jana, I agree with Mary, this will be the best Christmas for Tanner...Something about a little boy and his dog!

Trying to finish up the house and then get on my way to visit with Jim...Terry said he'll be stopping down to drop off the things he had picked up for me for the boys...I sure hope he doesn't think I'm wrapping, everything goes in gift bags and what doesn't fit, will go nude, maybe with a bow on top...One year, Kevin wrapped everything in newspaper and masking tape..What made it extra funny, that was when Jim worked at Papercraft (one of the biggest wrapping paper, tape, ribbon companies around) and we had tons of stuff but he chose newspaper..
Yesterday, I did run to KMart. Haven't been in that store for a long, long time and it is sad how bare our store was...I don't see it staying open much longer....Then stopped at our Dollar store for more gift bags, then went to General Dollar and got bins to put the kid's Omaha stuff in...I figure, if I pack it with lots of ice, the stuff should be OK until they all get it home...If not, we'll be having one heck of a good dinner!
And speaking of dinner, haven't a clue....Would be nice if when Terry stops by, he'd bring something (might have to hint) or maybe my DS will give me a call.....

You all have a great day.............

Happy eating...............

Eagle update: No one is every sure just when those little eagles will start pecking their way out but it sure gets exciting...
At our Aviary in Pittsburgh, we just had a 2nd African Penguin hatch...They put a camera on their nest and it's so neat to get a peek at them.....No wonder I haven't baked cookies, too busy watching birds!

So very sorry for Tina. Prayers for her and the family.
Just getting ready to leave work for the day, have to stop for a couple things, and I think we will have tacos for supper. I know one little boy that will believe his grandma cooks just to please him!
Have a great evening. Becky

Good afternoon!

My heart breaks for Tina and all that is going on. Wish I could just poof and be there to lend a shoulder and ear. Been in a similar situation, so I know a little how she feels. Much love and prayers for her and the family.

Been wrapping all morning and have a big dent in the stack to wrap. When I went to wrap Emma's nightgown, I found a flaw in the fabric which made a little hole. Do now to do a little patch up. The hole is less than a 1/8 of a inch, but if I let it go, it will get larger. A stitch in time!

We bought Ethan some Lincoln logs for Christmas, but his brother got him legos and tinker toys, so we will wait a week to give him the Lincoln Logs. Ethan turns 6 on January 1st. It is hard to believe that he is that old and that we have been here in Utah for 6 years too. Seems like last month I was unpacking.

The other day Mary was guessing how old Baden is, well he turns 2 in February. On that same day, Gracie turns 3 - they share a birthday.

Daniel posted the most adorable picture of my Karlie. She is laying on her tummy, across the railroad tracks under the tree. Hands holding her chin, just staring at her gift from her daycare provider. Not touching the gift, just staring. She did touch the package the other day, took crayons and colored on the paper. I guess to make sure she knew which was hers! LOL

Sarah is debating whether to have all the grands dress up and play the parts of the Nativity story as we read it from the scriptures in Luke. The plan is, Andrew would be Joseph, Emma - Mary, Ethan, Tanner, and Logan - the 3 Wise men, Gracie - an angel, Baden, one of the animals in the stable and Stu the big shepherd. We will see if we can pull this off. We might need to change the name of the 3 Wise men, to the three wise guys, with that set of characters! LOL

Dinner - something easy - tacos fit that bill! A friend brought us a gift of homemade salsa and a bag of chips.

Prayers, hugs and enjoy!
Jana

Oops forgot - Matt is getting and giving Tanner and the rest of the kids little puppy on Saturday night. Puppy will be coming to dinner with them on Christmas Eve. Sarah is hosting the dinner, so new baby kitty will be in the laundry room and baby girl puppy in the mud room.
