SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Dec 11th
Good morning,
More chill, more fog, but still no rain or snow. We are lovin' it here in the PNW!
Today is baking day with Lara! Hope she gets here early so we can get started. I can't wait! Our Seahawks lost yesterday and then showed some unusual poor sportsmanship. I was disappointed in them. Bad Hawks!!
HELEN - my DD, Lara, was also born 2/3/72. and I was married Jan 30, but a different year.
BECKY - your party sounds like the purrfect solution to all the family party dilemmas.
JANA - how was the concert, besides wonderful??
IRISH - I'm sorry that Jim's brother is being a pain to you, rather than a support. My guess is that he is angry this is happening to his brother, he feels guilty for not truly helping, and this is his way of 'helping'. Also, might he be just a bit of a control freak? I found, sadly, when you are going through a crisis people come out of the woodwork to tell you you are doing everything wrong, but give no real assistance when and where you need it. It's hard, but I say IGNORE them. No one loves your Jim like you do and no one will do as well for him as you are right now. Anyone who knows you knows you would give the world to have him back with you, but he really is where he needs to be. Big hug!!! And thank you for the eagle report!! Eggciting!!
TINA - you really accomplished a lot yesterday! You'll have everything done in no time, even if you are only able to present finished tops for Christmas. quilting can come later, if necessary. I'm glad your SIL "came to" and acknowledged your birthday. As for your mom, many elderly or sick folks eat the way she does - or doesn't. It's not healthy, but it's about the only thing that's left in life that they can control. So they do it. At this point, don't worry about it. don't try to coax her and don't scold her. Just give her tiny portions and let her alone. Give her that control and she might be more managable in other areas.
BECCA - are you still snowed in?? How is your DH?
CHICKIE - I know you are starting a new quilt for your uncle even as I am starting one for my brother. How is yours coming?
I knew I wouldn't be wanting to cook anything tonite after spending a day in the kitchen so I rooted around in my freezer and found some leftover pinto beans. I'll dice up the last of our meatloaf in them and heat them for supper. We might have them over boiled potatoes with a salad. I've I'm up to boiling a potato! lol!
And what might you have for your supper tonite?

This is an experimental post, testing out my second party Photo posting abilities. It is a picture of just one of the quilts that Tina has been working on for her grants for Christmas. I think it is awesome!

Sorry, I guess It didn’t work. I need to practice more I guess.

Good morning!
Very cold here - 17 degrees, but the heater is on and I am warm and toasty under the covers!
The concert last night was great. Sarah trains her choirs and orchestras well. All went well, until in the middle of a number, Sarah's baton slipped out of her hand and to the floor, no problem, she never missed a beat and conducted the rest of the program without it. Ethan was a hoot, asking is it time to stand and sing the Hallejuah chorus after each number - it was the last number of the program, but when it came time - with the first note, he was up and standing, ready for the first hallejuah. All the way home, he was singing the chourus to Angels we have heard on high. The run of gloria, in excelcis deo. He has the run of notes down, albeit, slightly off key. LOL I have a singing family!
Dinner will be comfort food. Chicken, mashed taters, country milk gravy and a veggie. I will be in the cave sewing. Scrooge is hunting for some outdoor lights we have that are missing. He wants to put them up.
Mary - your house will smell wonderful! It is so much fun to have Sarah over to see or bake.
Find the sunshine!
Enjoy!
Jana

Good morning! We are going to have shirtsleeve (60 degrees) today! Of course, tomorrow when I have all the dogs… 40 degrees! That will be a brisk walk!
Irish—I’m so sorry you are dealing with family like that. I can be there with you in the empathy department. The family who has the least to do with it all is the best at telling you what you should be doing. I had it with both my late husband and with my mother-in-law. Just take Mary’s advice and ignore them. You know best what is best for Jim. I echo everything Mary told you. And, I echo Tina—she can stop by here and get me, and we’ll take care of your critics!!!
Becky—I love the idea of Thankmus! We have the little house at the end of the road here, too. That’s cute!
Mary—my quilt will get off the ground today! Yesterday was laundry, getting packages ready to mail today and binding the little flannel quilt Mom made. I volunteered to do the binding, as I know she has difficulty cutting the strips and finishing. I was also cleaning in the kitchen. DH is paneling the rest of it with cedar, and I’m loving it!
Jana—I’m not looking forward to those temperatures! I guess it was about 20 here when I went to feed the calves… so, not much difference. I love your Ethan stories! One of my favorite Christmas memories is a party we had in pottery class at the university. A Vietnamese refugee who was in our class sang Angels We Have Heard on High in his native French… just beautiful!
Now I need to come up with something for dinner… I had Brussels sprouts last night with a baked potato and corn on the cob. DH had steak, potato and corn. That might be an option tonight, but it will be sweet potatoes instead of russet. I can sew and have leftovers tonight… it’s a plan!
Bon appétit!

Hello everyone, sunny & warmer here after we got a ft of snow. And had no power for 2 day’s.Got down to 63 in the house even with our gas logs going. We had bitter cold.
DH is still in bed but I. Can see some improvement today. So grateful after dealing with him ,no power & the battery on generator had to be replaced.Levi Our DGS come Yesterday morning to help us.DS was down at his hunting cabin.
Today is a brighter day so I made a pot of potatoe soup.Thought DH could eat that.
Irish I know it’s hard to hear such words from a family member.Seems no matter how you do someone is ready to criticize.Try your best to IGNORE them.Know it’s not easy.I wen thru it & so did DH with his Mom.You are doing a great job & we all back you .Let it out here anytime.
Maryz You are welcome to use the idea of runner.Enjoy your day with DD Baking. What fun.

Jana Glad Sarah’s Program went well.Sure Ethan was right on cue.Hes a joy.
I kind of out of it here bec we were off line for 3 day’s.Hope all’s well with everyone.Sure is a much better day here.
Adalynn did great at her program.I watched it on my DHs phone. She got all the words & motions right & was the only little one up there with all the big ones.Never fazed her.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Dec 11th
Good afternoon ladies.
I think we will do sub sandwiches and potato salad tonight. The kids are supposed to decorate the tree, and I am just tired. That is something that they all will probably eat, because they make them the way that they want them.
Our party was fun, really strange, living within a 25 mile radius, we hardly see some of my cousins, let alone their children. So many have little ones, I didn't know quite a few of them.
A very smart aunt set this Thankmus up for her children over 25 years ago, and the ones that wanted to come home for the holidays could, but the ones that wanted to spend it with the spouses family or at their own homes could with no guilt. I have always loved the idea of it, and it doesn't occur right on top of Christmas, so that helps.
Irish, I do agree with what the others have said, you know best for Jim. My parents went through the same when they took care of my grandparents, usually the ones that are feeling the guiltiest, I guess.
Tina, hope you will get into a better routine when your folks get settled. I am not sure it would do any good to make your mom eat, although know it is tough. I guess you could force feed her, am sure that wouldn't go over well though. Glad your SIL remembered your birthday...hope you had a good one....
Well, guess I better get back at it. Still have lots to do....Everyone enjoy the season....Becky

Hi gals. It's now 4pm here. Dinner has been in crock pot all day. We will eat about 5
Cooking boneless ribs. I made my own concoction. A little BBQ sauce, a bit of Texas "Soppin Sauce", a bit if grape jelly, brown sugar, water, dry onion chips. I browned the meat in skillet and added those juices too. It smells so good.
Going to made friend potatoes with it.
Sorry I am so late. I have been busy getting next quilt ready to sandwich.
I need to go back now and read all your posts and catch up.
Velda
I enjoyed catching up. Hope you had a fun baking day, Mary.
Irish: hope you can stay strong. I agree with everyone who gave you encouragement.
Most of you are all busy with holiday preparation.
I will made a couple of candy and cookie recipes to share at pot luck Christmas dinner.
I like the Thamkmus celebration. Great idea.
Hope you all forgive me for being so late and sometimes missing entirely.
