Psalm 112
We are assured that the one who fears the Lord and delights in His commandments is blessed. Verse 10 explains that the wicked cannot understand this connection between reverence for the Lord and be blessed; they are vexed by the very concept. They and all their desires will melt away and perish, but the righteous will never be shaken. In fact, the Psalm is a litany of the blessings that are assured to those who fear the Lord.
All of these blessings are what we should desire as a reflection of our character, values, and lifestyle. We don't become this kind of person by trying to follow a list of rules and a pattern of behavior. The Lord is the one who blesses us, pours His life into us, guides us, and gives us strength when we delight in Him and His commandments. We don't have what it takes to remain steadfast in the face of rumors and personal attacks. It is not our natural tendency to be gracious and give to others. We cannot guarantee that our influence will extend to future generations. These blessings are from God. Our responsibility is to fear the Lord, delight in His commandments, and praise Him.
