SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Nov 16th
Good morning!
Yesterday morning I got the binding on my Woven Ribbons quilt and posted a photo if you'd like to see it. Then I started putting blocks from an old Christmas swap together in the afternoon. We had a nice time last night at Mexican restaurant and then off to Ace where the party was in full swing! Could hardly get down the aisles! We didn't find anything to buy, but enjoyed the atmosphere. Got home at 7:30 and was in my Christmas pj's by 7:32.
Today's plan - finish putting together those swap blocks (only have 3 more past swaps to assemble, plus my International Sunbonnet Sues, which technically is 3 swaps all by itself!). Also I need to fine-tune my thanksgiving menu and shopping list. Finally, I need to get out what Christmas gifts I have and see what's what. We don't buy many gifts but everyone gets a new ornament and I give them out at TG. So I gotta get crackin'! TG is a week from today!
CHICKIE - yes, I get sewing things completed. But nothing else! lol! Did Doyal notice the extra veggies in his rice last night? Or did you get to go out for chicken fried something? We get Dental Chews from Costco for Scott. My SIL's dog, among many others, choked to death on a Greenie. I hear they've changed them, but I'm still wary.
LINDA - I bet your sun-room looks awesome! What a great place to while away a winter afternoon with a good book! Or some hand sewing and an audio book. Don't think of the floor as splotchy. Think of it as a pretty batik type of design! My DH loves meeting my quilty friends and their husbands. He's even met Indiana Joan who I didn't get to meet.
TINA - your family is so lucky to have you cooking for them!! Everything you make is awesome! How does Frankie stay so lean??
IRISH - My dad asked me to clean out his office once. It took me three days and I filled 3 big black garbage bags full of papers and ill stubs. he was a saver! I hope you do get to take a Florida break. Jim would want you to and the kids can watch him for you while you're gone.
JANA - when we were kids, we ate hot rice like hot cereal with milk and cinnamon and sugar on it. Still do!
BECCA - Those hot naked ladies will look extra pretty when they bloom in your yard!
Supper tonite will probably be tacos. We had enchiladas last night, so I guess this is Mexican week at our house!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Nov 16th
Good morning! We were much cooler today when I was feeding the calves, but the sun is shining! It’s beautiful outside—golden, green and calm. The frost was sparkling in the sun. You can tell… SUN makes me happy!
Yesterday all the cows were at the gates, so I took a break and went out and fed them range cubes and had a love session with pets and kisses. Cow kisses are like being scraped by sandpaper! They are so funny! The calves came up and were nosing me from behind as the cows on the other side of the fence were nosing from there. I was surrounded! Talk about bad breath—did you ever hear/smell a cow belch! I would think with all that chlorophyll they eat that their breath would be better! We still have some green grass! I’m sure it won’t last too much longer as we have heavier frosts.
The Hooligans and I walked/hiked across pastures and down trails yesterday to DS3’s to take care of Choc and Maggie and then to Ava. The leaves are mostly off the trees now, but the sun was shining and it was a pleasant walk. I only had to wear a light weight hoodie instead of a jacket or coat.
I’ve been online ordering tea, coffee and DH’s hiking boots that he wears daily. His old ones are worn out. …So fortunate to still find them being manufactured! I didn’t order any dog chews. Thanks for the Greenie info. I still need to find something for them. Maybe they will have bad breath until I can get to Joplin to Petsmart.
Mary—what kind of chews do you use? My sister goes to Costco in Kansas City when she goes up to her DD’s.
Hot rice with milk and maybe some raisins was a supper staple at Grandma’s house. My DD and I had it like that when we were single, and that’s all I could afford. What great memories!
As for the pork fried rice last night… delicious!!! DH never said a word about the veggies, and we cleaned it all up—no leftovers!
Linda—DS3 has a cement slab house, and they did the dyed concrete with the grooves cut to look like tile. His ex- was never satisfied with it, but I think it’s beautiful! To me it looks like granite or marble with the “splotchy” colors. I often wish I had it instead of the wood floors we have. Our grade wouldn’t let us build on a slab when we changed location.
TG is a WEEK from today??? YIKES!!! I thought it was another week after that! Guess I need to get busy, too! I also have a cookie to make DGD for Monday. I need to know what she wants on it.
Linda—I love the surprise lilies when they bloom! I have some, but most of them are down the road where our house burned and where DGS (Ava’s parent’s) live now. I get to see them when I visit Ava. Sometimes I’ll pick some and take a bouquet to Mom. Your DH needs a dorm-size fridge in his work area for his beer…
Becca—at our Ace, they are making a lot of changes and adding more and more gift items. I like their cookware and kitchen gadget selection. The gifts do seem to be encroaching on the “real” hardware however.
Tina—I’m dreaming of your tamales! I want to be your mother and benefit from all that yummy fare! I’ve never made shortbread cookies. That’s something I need to do! I used to have sweet cookie molds for them that I hung on the wall and never used. Duh!
Irish—that’s so interesting I was so close to your friend’s house! No, the Shell Factory was not on the guys’ itinerary. I did enjoy the gardens at the Edison-Firestone museum grounds. I need to go with you and your friend to do girlie stuff!!! I’m sure I’d sleep better if Odie weren’t wrapped around my legs sometimes, too. But, I’m not going to change…
I need to get busy here. I pieced the binding and backing for Mom’s table topper and sandwiched it yesterday. Now it’s ready for quilting. I only have Ava to take care of today, so maybe I can work un-interrupted for awhile on my sewing.
As for dinner… no leftovers. There are some enchiladas in the freezer, so that may make it to the table tonight, possibly with some refried beans and a salad. Guess I’ll go raid the freezer…
Bon appétit!

Hello everyone,sunny & warmer today ,no wind.Nice.
I may go rake the leaves that came down from the oaks.We Have one in back still holding on.
Maryz I do have the lilies but Linda is the one that was trying to get them going again.I had never heard the naked lady name .Here they call them Ressurection Lilies.I love their blooms.I have been fine tuning my grocery list too.2 DGDILs called this morning to find out what to bring.
We counted last nite & come up with 22 to 25.For some odd reason I’m not worrying over it.Normally I would but guess that’s what Old age does.lol
My BFF was stressing out yesterday over her family coming. She Only has 10 tops.
Chickie Your pets are sure fortunate to have found you.And So is DH.
Linda I sure hope the floors are satisfactory. If they are covered Guess it doesn’t matter.
Hope the lilies grow for you.
Irish Surely you can find a time to break away & get some sunshine in your life.Ive been to the shell factory a few times when we were in FL.I too loved Basketville but I’m sure it’s all gone now. Many moons ago.
Oh I am fighting a sore neck .Sure hope the massage tomorrow helps.Dont know what it is unless the glands are inflamed.Old age I guess.
Burgers here. And garden peas.Cole slaw. And BF gave me a loaf of banana nut bread.
Becca

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Nov 16th
Good afternoon from a very dreary, chilly, another yucky day in SW. Pa....I'd like to know, how come Becca, who doesn't live THAT far away, has all the nice weather....Could be she's just a much nicer person than I am..........
Mary, once again, you are flying through those projects...Do I get credit for at least thinking about mine??? But, I am going to get with it!.....I just read in the paper, Alaska airlines is going to have a non stop flight to Seattle from Pittsburgh....Things might be looking up in my traveling department....But, as you said, you're just a "few" miles from Reno.....
Chickie, I would love, love to have you come to Florida with me...My friend seeks out the unusual places and I think we've seen most of them...This is the gal who when coming north, takes no main highways, always finds a back road and something to see...Edison-Firestone estates are something to see...How about we meet up somewhere along the line? You mentioning sand paper kisses brought back a lot of memories, some good, some yucky, lol...I also remember being quick to get out of the way of that "swatting" tail.....
Becca, Isn't it a good feeling not to worry about the up coming dinner? Not sure if it's old age but I'm really liking it...I used to be so stressed out about making sure things were perfect and now, as in the movie, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a d***!" At this point in my life, Jim gets all my worrying... Glad to hear you are having decent weather, enjoy it for me......
Today, didn't start too well...I woke up early, decided, too early, rolled over and woke up to hear the garbage truck...Guess who didn't have the bag out???Well, I was no about to chase him down the street (he might have put me in the back). Then I piddled around and didn't get anything accomplished except call and make an appointment at the car hospital...Terry sent me a text saying after much family turmoil, they've decided to stay home and have their Thanksgiving dinner and anyone was welcome...I already decided I would get Jim and we would go to Kevin and Cindy's, just because Jim would be familiar with their house and hopefully would be comfortable....I can run over to Terry's later in the evening....There again, not worrying about it, what happens happens.....
I'm on my way, finally, to Home Depot for paint, then onto see Jim and then tonight Bingo with my sister...This is a big night, pizza party and we all know, everyone and their brother will be there, lol....But, no cooking in this house...........
You all have a great day..........
Happy eating................

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Nov 16th
Late morning:
Dark and dreary this morning, waiting....and waiting...and waiting for rain. DH went outside anyway. We cut down the tea bamboo in the side yard because it was becoming invasive so he is now digging deep to pull out the roots that will continue to expand even without the top part of the plant. Don't EVER plant any kind of bamboo. It is so hard to get rid of. The neighbor across the alley from us has tried unsuccessfully to get rid of theirs for many years. It always escapes under the fence into the alley and DH has to start poisoning it so that it doesn't come over to our side.
Got my Naked Ladies all planted in hopes of the rain. Hope it is not too obvious where I "lifted" the top layer of bulbs from the neighbor's patch. They never look at that dirt patch anyway. Do have a question about Iris. Do you ever cut the foliage back to about 6 inches? Mine have huge long healthy green leaves right now but I see some neighbors cut their back. What to you do?
Mary/Becca/Tina : DH may have been a doctor and really good at handling the public when he worked, he called it "being on stage", but he has a great deal of social anxiety outside of that environment. He won't join any thing, has no friends, and I am his only companion. He is getting hard of hearing so now it makes social situations even more uncomfortable for him. Good thing we get along as well as we do!
Well, Thanksgiving plans are firming up for everyone and you all are so busy, busy. I have taken a break from large quilting and have been making a sewing mat with pockets to put under my old 15-91 Singer that I do all my piecing on. I am using some of Robert Kaufman's Singer fabric. So I am finally "dressing up" Annie. I will also make her a cover to match and a pad to place on the right side of the cabinet where the thread stand and pin box is. Then it will all be protected, matched and elegant. Better than the towels I have there now!LOL
Take care, prayers to all those in need and Thursday is dinner out night. Don't know where yet.

Sorry I am so late. It is a sad day in my house. Perry was way to sick for the Vet to help, so he is gone now. Much better than to be suffering. He was close to being 19 years old. A very sweet loving little kitty.
