SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Nov 15th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Nov 15, 2017 4:35 am

Good morning!

We have had pouring rain all night and it's still coming down. Lots more wind yesterday, too. We raked and blew leaves yesterday morning, but it's all a lost cause today. Sigh.

I finished my plaid swap blocks yesterday and posted a photo in that thread. There is one more day to sign up so if no one does, I can ship them off! In the meantime, I'll put a binding on my queen Woven Ribbons quilt I made last year.

Emily is doing well. Yesterday was her birthday and we gave Mike a gift, card, and small cake to have waiting for her. She needed a little spoiling this year so she got over and above what we usually do for birthdays.

Last night we went to see Daddy's Home 2. (Never saw '1') It's a cute Christmas movie with will Farrell, Mark Wahlberg, John Lithgow, and Mel Gibson. Movie was cute and festive but it was no Christmas Vacation. CV sets a pretty high bar.

IRISH - maybe you should consider a little trip to FL for a few days to visit your friend down there and check on the eagles for us. Why not?? Because you need to stay home and paint?? You deserve some sunshine. Go!! My sister is there now. You can visit her. She looks just like me only not quite so cute. I set a pretty high bar. ;o) lol!! Oh, and yes, I need to check in almost every day and sometimes even if I haven't been here for several hours. Bill tells me that means our forum is more secure.

BECCA - I'm sure you're right and that people don't come to see your house. But I'm sure they come to see mine so I gotta get moving!! I wonder if I should wash curtains . . . .

JANA - we're watching our weather, too, with some anxiety at every big gust of wind! Though when that tree's twin, which was on our property, fell OVER OUR SHOP, it was a still night - no wind. Just the weight of heavy rain caused it to break apart at the crotch. We had the rest of it taken down ASAP! I have actually practiced rolling out of bed at night so if I hear any loud cracking, I'm ready!

CHICKIE - I always make a lot of rice. It freezes well for another day! And your house always looks nice! It's warm and inviting and comfy. And you even let Scottie up on the furniture with your Hooligans! Which he rarely does at home!

Tonight is Ladies Night at Ace Hardware. So 2 other couples and my SIL, Terry, are meeting at our favorite Mexican restaurant for supper at 5pm and then going across the parking lot to the Ace to shop. We need a tool box for our DGS for Christmas. We already got him a basic set of tools to put in it. Kind of like a hope chest. Not sure what else we'll find, but there will be cake and door prizes. It will be a party!! My SIL, Terry, will be headed back to Las Vegas tomorrow, so this is her last night here. She was only home for two weeks. She drove home (1200 miles) to attend the funeral of her brother's wife, and then, after she got here, the brother decided to change the date to the end of the month! So Terry is going back to Vegas to have TG and Christmas with her DD and family. Terry is actually a mostly inactive member of our QIAD forum. She's the one who introduced me to you all!

anyway, enough about me - what's for supper at your house tonite?

Good morning! I went out to feed the calves and saw something I have been missing… sunshine!!! It soon clouded over, but it’s now sunny again. This will be a great day!

Mary, you are always so busy getting things completed! I seem to flit from one project to another. Your woven ribbons is beautiful!

Irish—the airline is Allegiant. We flew them to Punta Gorda last year from Kansas City—less than $100 each, round trip. Definitely no frills, but everyone was so nice on the airline. We had the same crew on the return flight, and one of the flight attendants recognized me and sat down and visited when she had a few minutes. Our trip to the airport takes longer than the flight. We are definitely in the middle of nowhere! Yes, I have to sign in every time I open the window to QIAD.

Ha, ha! There’s no way to keep the Hooligans off the furniture. What’s one or three more when we have visitors. Last night I had a lapful again. I MUST get some greenies for Tinker Bell’s breath.!!!

I’ve never heard of ladies night at Ace… what fun! I hope you or your party win prizes—good ones!!! Today is senior discount at the feed store, and I need sweet feed, dog food and milk replacer. I’ve been saving my list for a week.

I made rice last night… thought I was making for an army, but I was lucky to have enough for fried rice tonight. I’ll be adding lots of veggies to compensate for being short of rice. Do you think DH will notice??? I may have to make more rice. It will keep…

I hope to be sewing today in between doggie walks and feed store trip. I worked on my mom’s table topper yesterday, and it’s ready to be quilted. I’m trying to decide how to do it. I wish I were better at free motion…

Dinner will definitely be pork fried rice. Well, that is… unless we go up to the corner for chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken…..

Bon appétit!

Good morning!

We are cloudy too, getting ready for a storm that will bring snow to the upper peaks and cold rain on me. Sarah is still getting sod calls and the farm in Idaho Falls is still cutting. Warm for this time of year.

Dinner - I picked up a small sirloin pork roast, so will roast it and add a caesar salad.

Mary - you made quick work of that second set of plaid blocks.

Irish - I too have to sign in on most days, never at the same time, even with the box checked.

Chickie - rice has always been a staple in this house, even cold rice and milk for breakfast.

Time to get going, even if I am moving very slow,

Enjoy!

Morning all:

Weatherman has promised rain tonight....again. So far the rain gauge has been dry as a bone. The ground so needs a deep soaking.

We got all the furniture, rugs and a few knick knacks set up in the sun room. We had lunch in there yesterday and it was warm and cozy. And you don't even notice the splotchy floor. I told DH so!!!

Had the whole sewing group of 7 here on Monday at 1:00. We had a good time and they didn't want to leave by 4:30. DH, who was hiding, was getting antsy because he wanted his 4:30 beer. And the kitchen is open to the family room so he couldn't sneak in. They finally left about 5:00. I found a bobbin of thread, some 2 1/2 inch charms and a pin in my couch cushions so I will have to take them with me to the next meeting and find their owners!

The little widow lady next door planted Naked Ladies years ago in her front yard right by our fence. Since she moved away 4 years ago the Mexican family who moved in have never taken care of them. I have always coveted them and since they are basically ignored and are stacking up against my fence I have been taking the loose bulbs off the top and planting them around my backyard. Yesterday I saw that their's are sprouting, but mine aren't. So I got antsy and dug up some of mine. They are just rooting from the transplanting so mine should be sprouting soon too. They will have green leaves all winter, go dormant for the summer, then put up the pink lilies in Sept. So I have a while to wait for the flowers. I also am battling slugs with my poor amaryllis bulb planted in the garden. I have it surrounded with a cage, put down slug bait and still something eats the leaves every time it sprouts one. I think the slugs are hatching inside the cage.

Well, enough trivia, we are off to Fresno for the monthly run of Costco, Home Depot, and since one of the quilt shops in Fresno is going out of business (25% off) I am going to try to get a bolt of my favorite batting. Want to get this all done before it rains.

DH put spare ribs in the crockpot so dinner will be waiting when we get home.

You all have a good day and stay warm and dry. Prayers for all those in need.

Good afternoon from dreary, chilly, SW. Pa....So what else is new??? But, it's a nice day to stay inside and later snuggle with the fur kids....

Mary, you sure are having the rain aren't you? And you can do with out the wind....I'm sure that little trip to Florida will happen, it's just deciding when and leaving Jim....He was so funny when I got there yesterday, was making his bed...He always was a helper here at home and he's still trying to help...Just the other day, in talking with some of the gals, I said, I still would like to bring him home and they told me, I wasn't allowed! They would miss him too much..I can see why they like having him around, gives them no grief at all...But, I still want him home, lol....And the painting will be getting done as soon as I get back to Home Depot and get more paint....

Chickie, we have the same airline here, flies out of Pittsburgh but there is also another no frills that flies out of a small airport that is only about 20 miles from me and much, much easier to get to...When you flew into Punta Gorda, you were only about 4 miles away from my friends house..Probably asked you before but did you get a chance to stop at the Shell Factory?
Don't you wonder what people do that don't have fur kids to snuggle with? I have one on my lap every time I sit down and the other is always beside my chair...Of course there are nights when I'd sleep much better without that fat fur bundle on my head or chest....
I'm like you and flit from one project to another but, one of these days, I'm going to surprise myself and knuckle down and finish a bunch of them....

Becca, How about sending some of that sun my way....No way, you'd want to be out hiking in my kind of weather....Yum, home made cookies! Makes me want to bake something......Enjoy your visit with you friend.....

As I said, today is inside stuff and I started with this desk, which is always a lost cause...I swear I could fill up a garbage bag with just shredded insurance papers..I keep thinking, how much money they would save if they didn't send all these un necessary papers...Also need to call the car doctor to get a check up (might need brakes) and I'm sure there's more phone calls I need to make, which I hate doing....Might shuck it all and bake some cinnamon rolls...Warm up the kitchen and add to the hips....

As for dinner, nothing comes to mind but if I make those rolls, I won't need anything else......

You all have a great day.....

Happy eating.................

Hi :) I'm sliding into my chair late again.
I make a small pot of beans by just making half of my usual :) it lasted us for 2 suppers. ... the second night I made bean tostadas.

Mary, I don't think anything will ever come close to Christmas Vacation.
Chickie, I've never heard of ladies night either at our Ace. ... I'd go if they have it!
Jana, I need to pick up pork roasts for tamales :)
Linda, LOL didn't your hubby like to visit your quilting group? Frankie enjoys meeting all my quilty friends :)
Becca, I made homemade shortbread cookies. . We baked together today :) Mine was a first time using that recipe. ..I like em.
Irish, I have lots of sunshine. ... anytime you want to come for a visit I have a spare bedroom :) you could show me how to make your cinnamon rolls :)
I was up till midnight last night getting all the labels on the 30's swap and got all that ready to send today. But when I went to bed I was hurting to bad to lay down so I came and snuggled under 2 quilts in my recliner and dozed off and on until that muscle in my back eased up and that was at 2 so I went back to bed and just dozed off and on. I left the kitchen dirty and it was on my mind plus the messes I left from all the packing. I got a lot cleaned up today but now the kitchen looks like a disaster hit it and I gotta clean it before bed tonight so I can sleep better. I made pot roast in the slow cooker for us and Mom and Dad, it was yummy! And then I made those shortbread cookies for dessert and they were yummy. .... yummy is my downfall.
I better scoot.
Tina
