SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Oct 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Oct 20, 2017 2:44 am

Good morning,

Our dinner last night went very well. We always enjoy these two couples. Been friends with one couple for 30 years and the other couple since I was a teenager. (that's more than 30 years. ;o) ) About 15 years ago we accidentally discovered these two couples had known each other since the 1950's but had lost track of each other. Small world! So now we all party together about 3 times a year and they are all a hoot to be with and a testament to positive attitudes. All four have battled cancer - and won. All four have other health issues as well but have great family support and are living high quality lives and all four could easily pass for 15 years younger than they truly are. I wanna be just like them when I grow up!

We got a brief update on my nephew, Jeff, last night. The biopsies on his brain tumor came back yesterday - benign. We are all so grateful for that. the doctors think he was born with this tumor in his brain. He'll be 53 tomorrow. Now he has a long road of therapy ahead of him. He is also giving some thought to his job - high stress, much travel (which he hates), long hours, and long commute. I believe he'll decide to retire early and live happier with less money.

VELDA - you can come hang at my house any time you want! Oh, and bring your crockpot and gardening gloves, too, would you? ;o)

CHICKIE - glad to hear your knee is doing so much better. We haven't had a report on Annie and Blondie for a while. How are they doing? And do Lint and Blackie every come back to visit with you or are they fully into the herd now?

JANA - what fun to have Stu come home for a visit! It will be good to see him. I bet he'll look like he's grown, whether he has or not! I think you told us how many bags of pieces you have in your JN, but I've forgotten. The only number in my brain is 40. That can't be right - can it??

LINDA - poor you! Sounds like you are back to having your living room look like a warehouse! But for such a good reason, and so temporary this time. When do you anticipate being able to finally move into the sunroom?

BECCA - If meds are causing severe side effects, make sure the doctor knows. Sometimes there are other meds that will work just as well, or perhaps there are ways to counter the side effects. And sometimes the side effects are just temporary, which would be nice to know. Praying for the best for your DH.

More stormy weather is predicted for this weekend, so it looks like it might be another sewing weekend for me! oh darn.

As for supper - we have a lot of chicken, brussels sprouts, and sweet potatoes left over to feed us all weekend long. And we have plenty to share so come on over!!

Good morning!

Mary - so happy the weather geld out for you and the party was a success. I have 18 bags total. The forty came from the last bag that had for parts to it, each with 40 pieces. The bag before that was the same as well. I will just keep plugging along, one piece at a time!

The brisket was wonderful. It is all shreeded and bagged in the freezer for more meals.

I have disinfected this post, as I have a terrible cold and do not want to share, as one of my grands did with me.

Enjoy!
Jana

Good morning! I’m getting here late as usual. Took care of Blondie and Annie—they guzzle their bottles, now they are grazing and fertilizing the yard. Have to watch your step around here! Lint came yesterday for some sweet feed, but Blackie seems to like the herd now. All the cows and calves were at the gates yesterday, so I took out a bucket of range cubes and poured them out for the crowd.

I also picked a big basket of cherry tomatoes this morning. I’ll take a bunch in to Mom later for her and for my sister and brother-in-law. I’m on “mom duty” for a few days. I was in to visit her yesterday afternoon. DH had to work on the roof at the duplex (it never ends!), so I walked to Mom’s (about 10 blocks) and visited until DH finished and came to pick me up.

Yesterday was a crazy busy day of mainly taking care of dogs—Choc and Maggie (many trips, including taking and picking up Choc from ex-DIL), Ava (picked up pecans there), but also going to see Mom. I made caramel corn last night for the Halloween party tonight. Today, right before the party, I’ll make beer bread to take as well.

And, I’ve decided to go in costume… as much as I’ll do. Rosie the Riveter. I have my work shirt, overalls, boots, bandana and red lipstick. I also have an old silver electric drill that doesn’t work any more, but I can carry it anyway for my prop.

Mary—that’s great news for your DGS! Sounds like retirement and possibly a less stressful job down the road may be exactly what he needs.
I wondered how your dinner went—a success as always!!! Such a small world, too! I wanna be like my mom when I grow up, too! She beat colon cancer 25 years ago, and I don’t think she looks her age. She will be 99 on Nov 4.

Velda—I always like your crock pot contents, too! My yard needs cleared, but I usually wait until spring. The little birds take care of all the seeds and find shelter in the stems over winter.

This is short, but I need to post now—DH is home for bunch, and Windows wants a re-start…

Dinner is party fare!
Bon appétit!

Good afternoon from warm, sunny, darn right gorgeous, SW. Pa...We couldn't ask for better weather and I'd like to put in my request for it to stay this way until maybe May.....

Mary, you are just full of good news aren't you? So happy to hear about your nephew and I agree, retirement might be the best thing to do...And it's funny, you do learn to live on less money, lol...Our Kevin is 59 and has wanted to retire for years but Cindy kept saying, wait until the "college years" were done...Well, their DS graduated and Kevin is still working but I have a feeling, it might end soon...He's one of those who feel, the project won't get done if he's not there, silly boy! And, you're right about it being a small world..I'm constantly hearing things like this..I've found, you don't say anything negative about anyone, it could be your long lost cousin....

Chickie, it doesn't sound like you're taking it easy! My heavens, girl, I can't keep up with you and your activities....I love the idea of your costume and I hope you make sure you post us a picture...I think I'll be my normal self, that old, crazy cat lady, emphasizing on the old and crazy...I will probably get 4 kids so Jim will be so happy with the extra candy....

Becca, How come we have so darn much trouble with new meds...Meds are supposed to help, right??? There are times, when I'd love to shuck them all...But, I'm hoping and praying something positive happens with your DH... Boy, you're not kidding about those visits but boy am I tired, lol....

Jana, Hate to hear you're not feeling up to par...Isn't is nice that the grands share??? Feel better soon.....

Being such a super day, I should be outside but I'm so determined to stay in and hide in the sewing room the rest of the day...Kathy did get in on Wed. and we all met for dinner, so much fun...Then Nick got in later that night..Yesterday, we had to shop at Kohl's (Kathy had a 30% coupon), then we went to my sister's and then we went to visit with Jim...He was so happy to see her, had the biggest smile...When she left him, she was driving to Cari's (3 hours east) and then they were driving to Conn. and meeting up with Jackie, Kathy's oldest DD...On my way home, Nick texted and said, he was on his way to my house...I swear he's grown 6 inches and has gotten so mature in the just the few weeks he's been at school...While we talked, I made hot sausage with peppers and onions and sent it home with him for their dinner...Last night, I sat down and promptly fell asleep in my chair! Love to see the kids but this old lady needs rest, lol.....

Not sure what my dinner will be but I just cooked a giant head of cauliflower and that will be part of it....I stopped at a farm the other day and loaded up on goodies, good veggie stuff!

You all have a great day.....

Happy eating..........
