Oct 20 daily devotion

Psalm 91

The primary issue throughout Psalms is a relationship with God in which we are constantly abiding in His presence and acknowledging His providence. The result is assurance of His provision. When we are constantly aware of being "in Him" we find ourselves overshadowed by His almighty power, controlling our destiny, avenging our enemies, and making every provision for our protection and blessing. That assurance comes from affirming our faith and reliance in God, abiding in Him, and confessing, as in verse 2.

God responds to his abiding relationship with a beautiful expression of assurance in the closing verses. He will deliver us because we love Him. He sets us securely on high because we know His name. He answers us because we call on Him. He is with us in trouble, will rescue us, honor us, satisfy us with a long life, and allow us to know and experience His salvation because of an abiding, intimate relationship with Him.

This may be sliightly off topic, but I wanted to share.

We see so much bad and evil in the world that we begin to wonder what will be next, what will the next genetation be? Well, I read two different stories that brought tears and joy to my heart. First was the little 5 year old girl in Michigan, who saw the need and lack in her kindergarten classroom. Of a child, her friend not having enough money for a snack of milk. Such a small amount of money, 45 cents. So this kindergartner went home and counted out money from her piggy bank, in order to share what she has with her friend.

The other is of a young man, a senior in high school. He lives in the town next to me. This young man is a member of the high school cross country team. The team was racing in the state tournament, the last one for this young man. He was two hundred feet from the finish line, when he heard a scream of pain, and turned and looked. He saw his teammate, his running mate, and friend on the ground in severe pain. The young man in the lead, turned around and went back to help his friend. The young man picked up his friend and carried him to the finish so the injured young man could finish the race as well. This disqualified both of them, but it mattered more to help the injured young man, than to win the race. The injury to his friend was a broken leg, due to a cyst breaking on the bone.

Both of these young people thought more of another than themselves. Selfless acts of love. Much more than the media usually reports on this generation.

The little girl's grandmother saw the granddaughter counting her money and set up a Go Fund me page, which has raised more than was needed to help.

Serving is there for all of us, right in the midst of our busy lives, just look and you will see.

Izzy, these devotionals are a great addition to my day, I really do appreciate you taking the time. I usually read them on my phone while eating my lunch at work. then after work I read the comments. it's a real blessing for me.

Jana, the kids in your stories must have good parents.
