SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Aug 24th
Good morning!
Today is one year anniversary since we bought out new fifth-wheel, "Silver". Yes, we name everything and we celebrate everything! lol! It was our silver anniversary gift to ourselves. Wish we were out in Silver to do our celebrating, but we will be hitting the road in a few weeks.
My BFF's DD's house survived the fire. Whew! That was really REALLY close. It grew to 500 acres in just 8 hours! But was contained quite quickly, too.
Yesterday was exactly as predicted here - appointments, Costco, laundry, and sewing. A very nice day and only 77*. Today will be finishing my place-mats - 6 of them (a set of 4 and a set of 2) - and maybe canning some dilly beans.
IRISH - that is such good news about the VA helping with Jim's expenses!! We all know you'd much rather have him with you, but this is next best. It sounds like he is thriving. And good news about your sister, too! I hope she can now enjoy the trip! So nice to have someone close and trustworthy to help with your kitties. Does he do plants, too? I have about 11 house plants and it's always hard to find someone to care for them. And so nice that Terry is home and willing to step up and help with his dad so you can go on this trip of a lifetime! No one deserves it more!!!
BECCA - my mom made sliced cucumbers in vinegar and milk, but no onions in it. she did make a different salad with raw onions and tomatoes and used bottled Italian dressing, too.
TINA - is it already chile season?? I'd put those kids to work this weekend while you snuggle with You Know Who!! Has your chiropractor worked on your sciatica? It's kind of what they do. And most insurances now will cover at least part of chiropractic expenses.
JANA - congrats on figuring out the photos!! I'm really illiterate when it comes to computers, but then I have Bill so I've never really had to try. your skinnies are so cute!! I love them all!
LINDA - how's things going at your house?
Supper tonite might be a homemade pizza. But then Tina's chile relleno's sounds like of good, too . . . Decisions, decisions! But what we don't have tonite will be for tomorrow night, I guess.
What kind of decisions are you making for your supper tonite?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Aug 24th
Good morning! My days are flying by and taking them with me. They aren’t getting any easier. I’m working at the rental… I had to take a yard rake to trash in closets, under sofas and generally all over the floors. Also had to hall all her stuff out to the curb. Suddenly, she decided she wanted it and hauled it off, but she wouldn’t get it out. This has not been good. Right now, I’m working upstairs (half story—head banging!) attempting to revive the carpet and make it liveable again. Downstairs, I’m having heated discussions with DH about ripping out the carpet and replacing with laminate or if hardwood beneath, then sanding and varnishing. It would be so much easier to keep clean in the long run. I said “carpet” loosely. It’s more like worn out matted filth.
Above is what I wrote yesterday, and DH came home for brunch before I could finish and post. The rat race had begun…
Yesterday I finished shampooing the upstairs of the unit. I can’t tell you how many trips I made up and down the stairs—hauling crap out, then the vacuuming and shampooing (taking the discharge down and clean water up). I had one mishap and fell down the stairs near the end yesterday. I spilled discharge water everywhere and bounced along on my hip. I think I’m fine—a little stiff and sore, and I don’t know if it’s from the fall or all the up and down, lifting and tugging…
I’m taking the day off today. I have a comfort quilt to make for DD’s friend, and it’s now on the design wall ready to put together—a bullseye block quilt from batiks. I think it’s a happy quilt, and I hope her friend will enjoy it as she is taking chemo. DDIL may be bringing her mother-of-the-groom dress to me for alterations as well.
MY BIG NEWS!—I’m back in the calf mama business! Now that the kids are back in school, and babysitting is finished, I have the two little calves from over at DS1’s. Honestly, I wish I’d had them from the beginning. I think they’ve been somewhat neglected. I think the new wore off pretty quickly. So, I’m back to fixing bottles. My kitchen is back to various buckets, bottles and bags of milk replacer and feeds. If I’d known I’d be doing all this “real” farmer stuff, I’d have designed a room just for all this mess in my house plans. Last evening after we came back from the rental, Pocket Lint and Blackie were in their pen waiting for buckets of feed, and I took bottles and feed to Little Orphan Annie and Blondie.
Little Orphan Annie is a black calf who lost her mama. Blondie is a little white calf and part of a set of twins that was the rejected one from DS2’s farm. Blondie is really small for her age, much like Blackie.
Irish—I’m traveling with you in spirit! My niece went to Ireland quite a few years ago. It was amazing. So glad nothing showed up on your sister’s procedure, and you’re probably right… stress can manifest itself in lots of symptoms. Know you can relax, too, knowing Jim will be well cared for—great news on the VA assistance!!!
Mary—Happy Birthday to Silver! When you take off for a trip do you holler “Hi-yo, Silver!”? That was such good news about your friend’s house!!! Whew!!!
Becca—I’m a fan of cucumbers and sweet onions in a vinegar, sugar and water “dressing”. Hope your traffic is all gone. I pretty much missed the eclipse while hauling stuff out of the rental. The light dimmed, and I thought it would get darker. All of a sudden it was light again.
Jana—I have to go check out your skinnies!
Tina—I’m excited about your 30s swap… MUST figure out a block soon! Several years ago I did a sampler quilt with Sandy (Kho) on here, a sew along with El’s blocks. I used my 30s, then gave the quilt to Mom for her birthday. She looked at it, said it was too stiff to use, stuck it in a bag, and I never saw it again. I’ll keep this one for us! I love the 30s with crisp white background.
Linda—I do not recommend rentals for a retirement hobby!
Last night I came home and made DH chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy. He has more of that tonight. Chiles relleños sounds so good… I have other (banned) that I need to fix tonight. I’ll add salads and call it good. I need to go check and see if I have any more tomatoes on the vines, also need to cut up a watermelon. I REALLY need this day off. I’m headed to hunt for tomatoes and then work on the floors. I’ll be in my sewing room this afternoon!
Bon appétit!

Good morning
We're just finishing up breakfast here. Preston is I'm pretty sure playing with his.
Jana, I have the book of Skinnies and I'm wanting so bad to get on them!
Becca, I forgot to tell you that my mom did the cucumber onion thing just like you said. I never ate it because I don't eat cucumbers in cucumber form just pickle form. ... they don't like me in cucumber form and I don't eat raw onions. But my mom and dad always loved it!
Mary, this new chiropractor I have isn't very good but he's all I could go to for at least 6 months because my idiot chiropractor broke his arm last year arm wrestling while he was drunk and the video was all over Facebook. I was so mad at him! My insurance doesn't payanything, it's considered a specialist so I have to pay almost $33 for each visit so I can't go that often. I did tell Frankie last night that I need to go to my other one because I seem to be getting worse lately and between my elbow and sciatic nerve I'm not sleeping much and I'm really tired of being in pain 24/7 Happy anniversary celebration day!
We had enchiladas last night. Mom and Dad might be here today and if they are I think I'll make pork chops and if they aren't then maybe chicken tenders and a salad.

Chickie, I hope you're ok and you DH will listen and at least rip that carpet out of he doesn't want to get out of the rental business all together. Even linoleum would be better and cleaner than carpeting. He could've lost you you know. Hugs

Good morning!
Quiet day here. I half expect to see Sarah home today. Just a hunch.
Mary - our local grocery store here does a chile roast on the weekends and we can buy fresh roasted chiles, so I may just make chile rellanos this weekend. It is fun to celebrate anything and everything! Makes for happy times!
Chickie - ouch! So glad to see you again! Rentals are not for the faint of heart! Are PL and Blackie willing to share you?
Tina - did Mom and Dad get moved near to you? I know you were work8ng on such, but I can't remember.
Well, my pork steaks got bumped to tonight. The boys were here, so I punted dinner and grabbed leftovers in the refrig when they were done. In the hour they were here, they cleared and gathered 10 of those big black lawn trash bags. The Bishop even hauled the bags over to the church's trash bin. It is all part of the service project the boys did. My yard looks so nice!
Heading to play in the Batt Cave.
Enjoy,
Jana

Jana, no my parents haven't moved yet. I'm not sure if they will while my mom is still with us. She's really bad and sleeps almost all day long and when she needs to go potty my dad has to walk her there cause she can't walk anymore by herself. She's not having any good days anymore
I talk to her several times a day for a few minutes, she's not good to talk for more than that, they have her oxygen up to 8 I believe. I think her lungs are just giving out.
