SUPPER CLUB - Monday, July 31st

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Jul 31, 2017 3:24 am

Good morning!

I am home from Yakima Where we won a bottle of wine for coming the furthest to their dinner/music/prize event. And we even survived the 96 degree heat. Only to come home and find that we will be even hotter this week here at home!! Sigh. And we were thinking how fortuitous that we planned to be at the ocean during the hot days where it will be 15-20* cooler, when our truck broke. It's the DEF thing and now it's in the shop for some days. They won't even look at it until later this morning. And the reason Dodge was even open on a Sunday is that they have such a backlog of vehicles in for repair that they are working weekends. So, with so many people ahead of us in the repair line, we probably aren't going to the ocean after all. and such is life.

But, there is possibly a consolation prize! My oldest brother is a trucker in Alaska. But often drives pilot car for a trucking company and they are bidding on a job that would bring him down to Montana - to a little town about 700 miles east of us. If he gets the bid, and if our truck is repaired in time, we MIGHT try to meet up with him even though he'd probably only have time for a quick hug before they turn north again. But he's worth it! And my sis would try to travel north from CO for her hug. We've traveled further for less before lol!

So today is Costco, chiropractor, and goofing around. And supper - Hmmmm...... I'm not sure yet. We have no leftovers. Maybe sweet & sour chicken in the crockpot. and serve it over rice . . . That sounds kind of good . . .

What are you thinking for supper? It's too hot to cook! Ice cream sounds like a good plan to me!

And here's a funny P.S. Bill just received an E-mail from Mopar saying there is a recall on the DEF system of our truck and it will take a full day to repair. How timely! Wish they'd sent it a few weeks ago! lol!

Good morning! Wow! End of July already—the months roll by with warp speed!

Mary—I seem to remember a 60s song that had “bottle of wine…” in it. Sorry about the heat! We’ve actually cooled dow to the 80s here… sometimes upper, sometimes lower. The huge change was last night… 67 degrees! It was so pleasant after dark unlike the sweaty, muggy 80s it has been for so long at night. Awww! 700 miles for a hug! So sweet!!!

Mom was good Saturday. I took the baby bibs in to show her, and she gave me more scraps and trims and some fabric. I think I’ll try to make a small quilt—from her fabrics by my hands. This is her sister’s great grandbaby. I don’t do genealogy, so I never know the proper ins and outs of titles and “removed”, etc.

Becca—if you are from the Iberian peninsula, isn’t that Spain? You might be doing the Flamenco instead of the Mambo! Put a comb in your hair and glam up the laundry! I hope everything goes well with your blood work. I haven’t had my DNA done. I doubt there would be any surprises. I’m pretty much north European. Good luck with your car!

Well, we have rental woes… yesterday DH received a text from the tenant at Dennis… the floor was sinking. So… today, I am a reluctant carpenter’s helper, and it’s probably going to be more than one day. UGH! I have PLANS—in my sewing room!!!

I had Choc and Maggie duty yesterday. I walked at noon, and came home with my face melting onto my shirt. I went out to drive over last evening, but the temperature had dropped to pleasant, so I walked again. The dogs got a good workout and so did I—a good 4 miles total yesterday! That is NOT the norm—I wish it were!

Dinner here… I think I have a few leftovers that can be combined with corn on the cob, watermelon, cantaloupe and salad or tomatoes. We won’t go hungry…

Bon appétit!

Good morning from a sunny, warm, absolutely gorgeous day in SW. Pa...Our temps are darn near purrrfect, no they are purrrfect!

Oh Mary, I'm so glad you're back, I am so hungry, couldn't find the fridge with you away, lol....Sorry to hear about the truck and the cancelled beach trip (that's the one I was waiting for)....But, if you get to see your brother, that's a good 2nd....Isn't it unusual for you to have hot temps? Our weather has been really goofy, we had a couple of nights where I pulled out my "almost" winter pjs and Baby Girl really snuggled close....I wish I had a Costco close by, I love that store....But, then again, maybe it's good I don't, I'd buy too much....

Chickie, Glad to hear your Mom is doing well, amazing woman! It sounds like your weather is goofy also....I also can't believe it's already the end of July...And of course we have a bunch of birthdays tomorrow, all of which I've forgotten to get cards, except my sister's...Oh well, maybe a phone call will have to do....
Your dinner sounds like mind, full of summer goodies.....

Becca, Been thinking of you all weekend and wondering how you're doing...We've never had our DNA taken and who knows, might be surprised....But, glad to hear you have Irish blood, I knew you were a good person.....

Today is a busy day...Have the clothes on the line and hopefully, we'll get the sheets back on the bed before bedtime, lol...Terry was down yesterday and did a few little jobs and we kind of decided, I was getting outside help to trim the tree and take care of the gutters..The gutters won't be too bad (kids won't let me do them) but the tree is way too big of a job and then we'd have to worry about hauling the stuff away....I also took care of the fur kids at PetSmart and what a time (good) I had...It's really neat to watch the people standing outside watching these critters put on a show...Sat. we're showing a bunch at another location and I'll get to play with them again....I'm so proud of myself for being strong, so far, lol....

Will be with Jim this afternoon and dinner will probably be anything that's in the fridge...I've stopped at a farmer's market and loaded up on lots of goodies...My grape tomatoes are ripe and so good but the bigger ones are taking their time...Love this time of year.....Was going to make zucchini bread but need to get eggs so that will be 1st thing in the morning.....Jim will really like that....

You all have a great day............

Happy eating..................

Morning Everyone:

I am back from a week in San Diego. I stayed with my elderly Aunt to check on her, then with my sister to check on her. Plus I had a second appt at the Shiley Eye Institute associated with UCSD (University of Calif - San Diego)school of medicine. They are one of the premier teaching hospitals. But after the additional testing, I remain an enigma for them. They still cannot give me a diagnosis for my progressing loss of peripheral vision. However, the Dr. did not think I would lose my central vision. So I guess it is just get on with my life and adapt to losing side vision. I have become quite the swivel head when driving and DH has gotten me extra mirrors for the car. Not time to learn Braille yet.

Becca and Mary z - DH and I received our DNA results too. Becca, my mix is just like yours, just different percentages from the same areas. I was surprised to see the Irish and Iberian Peninsula areas too. Thought I was more English (had a grandfather come from there) than I am. DH is pure Polish! He was sure he was and he was right!

Today is a run around day, trying to catch up for being gone. DH doesn't clean up when I am gone and boy, the stuff I found on the floor in the kitchen...required two washings to get it all up. Found out it was the makings of salsa using tomatoes from our garden. At first I thought DH had bled all over the floor.

While I was away I realized I wasn't getting enough quilting time and I am too tired in the evenings. So after I figure out what our "retirement schedule" is going to be, I will designate 1 day a week for quilting ALL day. The practice is officially closed as of today. DH has been able to sell of most of the equipment and other pieces, so that income has made up for not being able to sell the practice. Now it is only the building to sell. He is having a big yard sale this weekend for the last of the small stuff. His favorite part of retirement so far is being able to sleep in and not wear his white clinic coat. My favorite part is not having to iron it!

Gotta run...you all have a great day. Prayers to those in need.

Good morning!

Mary - glad you're home, and the truck is in for the recall. Hopefully it won't take long to get it done.

Chickie - never mind all the removeds and generations, it just family! The new baby would be your mom's niece with a few greats attached and you are a cousin, I think 3 times removed, which is a generation for each removed.

Becca - lots of prayers- you are a great example to me of how to handle life!

Irish - you are right there with Becca - teaching me! Glad that you have things planned on how to do the outside work. Those crews are fast and make short work of those trees.

Dinner - the chili didn't get made, so that will be our dinner to ight. I made chocolate devil treats for our Home Teachers from the church yesterday. We have wonderful home teachers, who are friends as well as checking on what we made need. It is a father and son. The father is a college professor and is in charge of the 4H here in the county. The son, a young man, will be leaving later this year to serve a mission.

Heading down to sew - still trying to decide on which pattern for my class. 4 to choose from.

Enjoy,
Jana
