SUPPER CLUB - Friday, April 14th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Apr 14, 2017 4:35 am

Good Morning!

We're cloudy but no rain at the moment. But all week it's been intermittent showers - enough to keep my walking trail flooded in places. Scottie splashes right through them and pulls me along on the leash. I need to get some waterproof tennies!

Tomorrow we leave for camping for 5 nights. The first night will be on a sandbar on the Columbia River where our friends will join us. They have been gone for a month and are on their way home from Arizona. Sunday we'll all move north from there to Yakima where we'll stay for 4 more nights. The other two couples cancelled so it will be just us four. So I may not be here for the upcoming days. Now don't y'all let yourselves starve!

Today I will be precooking my hamburger and onions so I can make chili in the crockpot one day while camping. And homemade hamburger buns. I'll freeze it all. I already have a chocolate cake in the freezer. I used premade chocolate fudge frosting, but added a big dollop of peanut butter to it and I'll sprinkle the cake with chopped peanuts before I serve it.

JANA - glad you got your pantries all straightened out and organized. The spread sheet will be nice for you. Such organization!! It was fun for me because I've been to your Costco in the past, and I think I know about where your Winco is. So I could picture you doing your thing all day long!

CHICKIE - and I've been to your grocery store, too! Hope you were able to get all your shopping done so you don't have to fight the last minute crowds. Though we could hardly find a parking spot at our grocery store yesterday. Logic would dictate that if all the crowds are there shopping now, the day before should be empty. But probably not . . Your menu sounds delicious! I have a few recipes for breakasts in the crockpot - eggs, sausage, hashbrowns. all of it. you wake up to a wonderful smell in your house!

TINA - and I know where you shop, too! I guess I'm a gadabout! Or at least a shop'n'eat-about! So sorry about your kidney stone! I hope you're feeling better today. My Michael was prone to them and they were PAINFUL! Were you able to go out to supper? Not for pizza, I hope!! ;o)

BECCA - I'm still trying to wrap my head around the concept of strawberry bread though I guess it would be like banana bread or zuchini or pumpkin or lemon. This year has been a VERY unusual year for rain. In the last 6 months we have surpassed our average ANNUAL rainfall. And your DGS moved to a rainy area besides. Depending on the organism causing pneumonia, it can be contagious. My DD and I both had it many years ago. Rain doesn't cause it, but dust can. However once you have pneumonia bacteria or virus in your system, getting wet and/or chilled can bring it on or make it worse.

IRISH - so happy Terry is home!! I will put the word out about his home for sale. I do have NC relatives and friends. I understand why you decided it might be better if he didn't bunk with you, but I bet you hated to come to that conclusion. Glad you have that extra shoulder now. Did you ever get your embroidery floss? I have every DMC color made and will never use it all up in my lifetime. So if you tell me what colors you need, I'll pop them into the mail to you.

Tonite's supper is going to be pork chops, sweet potatoes, peas, and salad. OR - chili relleno casserole and Mexican rice and refried beans. That would give us leftovers which might be good for a camping meal on a traveling day. I have to think about it.

I might be only hit'n'miss here this coming week since we'll be gone. But don't hold up your supper on my account! We'll be having chili and cornbread one night, hamburgers and baked beans another night, a restaurant a third night, and our friends said they are making buffalo stew a fourth night. I know buffalo is the up and coming new meat, but to Bill and me, that's like eating a cat or a dog. So maybe they will decide to change their menu . . >^-^< :(

Good morning from sunny, warm, Sw. Pa...From what the "weather people" are saying, we should have some decent weather for Easter and the up coming week...

Mary, thank you so much for your offer of floss but I think I have it covered, this time.. But, you know, it never fails, there's always that 1 color that's usually missing and I thought I had every color, lol......I'm making a little pillow for a friend who loves flowers...Written across the top is, Friends and flowers, then a bunch of flowers and across the bottom, Delight the Heart...This friend takes care of her DH and we kind of use each other's shoulders....
Your menus sound scrumptious but I'd also pass on the buffalo..We used to pass a buffalo farm on our way to see the girls at school and there was always a few babies running around, so darn cute...Then further down the road was an Amish store, selling the meat and I'd almost cry..I really should be a vegetarian...So, you and "Willie" are going to be "on the road again", that's great....If you have pictures, you know my email address.....Safe travels, my friend....

Becca, to me, anything made with strawberries has to be good...And I have a feeling anything you make would be good...One of these days I want to knock on your door for a sample or 2....Hope your day is a good one....Will you be having family in for Easter?

Today, being so nice, I had bit plans to really get something accomplished BUT, something happened to my back and it's a struggle just to walk...I have no idea what I did but I can sit or I can stand up straight but the in between just doesn't work, lol....And how in the heck can you scrub down porches if you can't more too good, lol....Oh well, I have a good book (another by Anne George, Mary) so I have ice and a heating pad and some good drugs, so heck with the porches....Better be OK tomorrow, I have to do a little shopping for Sunday....If you happen to see a pudgy, bent over old lady, smelling like BenGay, pushing a shopping cart, that'll be me!

For our dinner, it might be that banned "mac n cheese"/noodle casserole or maybe that old stand by, grilled cheese and tomato soup....And there is cookies or ice cream for afters.........

Happy eating..........

Good morning! We are having a shower here. I managed to feed the calves between light showers, however it might have been better if I’d been in a downpour. I’m trying to train Pocket Lint to be a bucket calf instead of a bottle calf with moderate success. I started yesterday afternoon. DH tried to feed Blackie a bottle while I worked with Ms. Lint. Last evening I ended up with Blackie in the bucket with a nipple in the bucket. The “my finger thing” wasn’t working too well, and Lint wasn’t too interested. What a comedy! This morning I went out by myself. I had my fingers in the bucket with Ms. Lint lapping and sucking as long as my fingers were still there. Blackie came over for her bottle, so I was juggling the bottle and trying to keep a hand submerged—all while bent over to their level. I ended up wearing a lot of formula as Lint kept bringing her head up to see what Blackie was doing and swishing milk all over all of us. Blackie was fooling with the bottle and also slinging milk. At one time, Blackie was sucking on Pocket Lint’s ear. PL wasn’t minding, as her head was in the bucket. My back was killing me! The bucket was a satisfactory experience today. Lint actually went back to it without my fingers at the end! I’m hoping to try to get both of them on buckets later today. I’m still having fun and loving every minute—even while wearing milk, getting butted and chewed on… all flesh is a pseudo udder to be chewed and sucked… It’s so much fun!!!

Mary—Years ago, when I made a Sam’s trip, I used to always cook up my burger with onions and peppers and package and freeze it for one pot portions. It was so much easier when I worked. I could drop it in the crock pot with everything else before I left the house. Have a fun trip!!!

In addition to yesterday’s menu for brunch, I got Kentucky Legend ham to add to the spread. Shopping went well—not too much of a crowd for which I was grateful. I stopped to visit Mom for a bit between getting another calf bucket at the feed store and going for groceries.

Brunch over… Almost time to feed again, and I’m going to try two buckets and no bottles. Yes, start laughing!

Tina—how are you feeling? That sounds like the worst pain!!! Is this your anniversary? Whenever it is… HAPPY!!!

Mary—you said I shouldn’t mention steak in the same breath as Lint and Blackie. I’m like your dad—I do not have a personal relationship with my food!!! That’s like eating my babies… cannibalistic!

Irish—your cross stitch sounds lovely! I love the sentiment!!! I’ll think of you when I see wildflowers now. I’m always taking pictures of them when I’m out walking. Oh, buffalo babies are so darling! I love your dinner!!! Don’t tell Mary!

Becca—I guess you’re going to have to share your strawberry bread recipe… I have strawberries blooming.

Since everyone’s having banned food today, I’ll join you. Sounds like a good day for an uprising. Actually, dinner sounds good! Mine will most likely be the crustaceans.

Bon appétit!

Good afternoon!

Made a quick run to get a couple of things the other stores didn't have. Even got the buggy to stop at the LQS.

I have about half my floor scrubbed. Gracie did a good job at making messes and her parents, well not so good at getting them clean. So i am scrubbing the "Gracie" out of them. I wonder why, when the whole tribe is coming here for Easter dinner. I cook, they serve and clean up. We are having ham, Aunt Sarah salad, green stuff, homemade rolls, and asparagus. For dessert i am making a Magic chocolate flan bundt cake. OK, Utah speak translation, salad - aka, funeral potatoes, green stuff, a lime jello blended with crushed pineddapple, cream cheese and whipping cream. The magic cake is just that, you put in a small layer of caramel, then a cake mix, according to the package, then on top of the cake mix you pour the flan, a custard mixture. As it bakes, the custard and cake change places, so when you take it out of the pan, you have the caramel on the flan, then chocolate cake. One of my favorites.

Dinner is either the banned PNW fruit or a steak i got yesterday. All depends on my mood and how tired i am after cleaning the kitchen and floor.

Ethan is helping Grandpa with the tractor - i get his reports - the tractor has a problem, the battery is kaput! So no mowing today aand no tractor rides when it would be done.

Matt and Crenda are due home tomorrow night. On Monday, when Stu had to get all the kids off to school, i remembered that he had to fix Emma's hair. Oh i would have paid money to see the look on Stu's face when he realized that! He did fine.

Well, time to wax the potion i have clean, so that when it's dry, i can move the table and finish the other side.

Enjoy!
Jana
