Psalm 37: 1-9
When things do not go our way and anxieties begin to accumulate, we typically lose our perspective and confidence in the Lord and in the future. Peace in our hearts gives way to fretting and stewing over our helplessness to change our circumstances or events that cause us concern.
While fear is usually focused on a clearly seen object is caused by the unknown and the uncertainty of what might happen. Sucha an attitude is usually caused by the dangers, temptations, and influences that are a reality in our fallen world.
But we are told not to be concerned or envious, seeking comfort and security in those values that conflict with God's righteousness. They will fade away; they are not permanent, and the rest of this Psalm portrays the contrast between those who belong to God and those who do not.
In the opening verse we are given several clear and simple directions for how to respond to anxiety and the result:
1. Trust in the LORD=it leads to doing good v3
2. Delight yourself in the LORD = He will give you the desires of your heart v4
3. Commit your way to the LORD = He will do it. v5
4. Rest in the LORD = Cease from anger and forsake wrath v7-8
5. Wait patiently for HIM = You will inherit the land and the blessing v 7, 9
May you follow these simple instructions to a better and more anxiety free life.
God bless hugs and prayers'
