Supper Club - Sunday, March 12

Post by FarmChick » Sun Mar 12, 2017 4:51 am

Good morning! I for one really missed my extra hour of sleep! It was hard to get up today. I went over and fed Miss Pocket Lint. She drank what I took over, so I came back and warmed the rest of the mama’s milk I had and took it back for her to drink as well. I’ll go back this afternoon and either do electrolytes (Pediasure for calves) or milk replacer. She was a new little girl today—eager to eat and figured out how sucking works. We were pretty concerned yesterday and Friday evening. I was thrilled to see her improvement today. She even found her voice and gave some little “maaaaa”s to me. (Can you tell I love being surrogate mom to calves? I know, crazy. Everyone else hates the job and doesn’t like having to do it, but I enjoy them.)

Becca—I’d love to have the luxury of time to walk over there and back, but I just can’t manage it. And, there are a couple of dogs that run out of their yards and act like they will attack. I don’t know how vicious they really are and don’t want to find out enough to walk by them.

Last night we ended up at a family and friends pot luck dinner with the main courses being liver and onions, braised heart in wine stew, and tongue with mushroom gravy. I’m not a fan of the last two, but I’ve always loved liver and onions. There were also burgers and brats for the ones who weren’t daring with the main courses. It was a fun evening.

Tonight… We brought home some brats and burgers, and that will be dinner along with veggies and brownies. I’m happy not to have to cook!

Bon appétit!

Good Morning!

CHICKIE - thanks for getting us up and running this morning! And thanks, too, for the good news about your baby! Tasha is going to be thrilled! I don't think I'd have been too thrilled with the menu at your dinner party last night! That stuff makes Fish look good!

It's not raining!! Or snowing! Though by the looks of the national weather map, some of you aren't so lucky. Sorry about that.

Our luncheon yesterday was quite nice. I got to ride there in a Porche! With seats that either heat or cool (great for those hot flashes!) It was fun to catch up on all the doings of my old friends, all NICU nurses.

I started my FGV yesterday while Bill was loading Lone Star on the quilt frame. I'm making all the FGV blocks 6". I'd orginally planned them to be 12" but after finishing Lone Star I need a break from big quilts. So far (all two blocks I've done) I'm really enjoying my new project - in 30's fabrics.

Bill has a cold. Our world has stopped. I suspect I'll catch it soon, too, but have hopes that, being female, I will be able to muddle through. lol! But I'll be making some chicken noodle soup today. And lots of it.

VELDA - hi! Glad to see you here. I know your time in Texas is short, but in looking at the national weather map, I'm wondering if you might want to hang where you are for a few more weeks and change those dr appts. No, I haven't posted any photos of my Lone Star on the forum but I did put it on FB just this morning. PHotobucket tells me my account is full. It's not - I deleted half of the photos there, but they insist I now have to pay for more space. And I'm not doing that.

BECCA - I see more good news in your family! A wedding to look forward to now as well as new babies! Will you be making a wedding quilt?

JANA - That Ethan is a real corker! lol!! I love his 'Ethanisms'! They make Bill laugh! I hope Sarah gets her driveway poured soon. It's only 9 days and you're not supposed to drive on concrete for a few days. Makes it hard to move in . . . I'm excited for them - and even more for you!!

IRISH - how did your day out go yesterday? WAsn't that yesterday? And looks like you are going to get hammered again with snow, if not already.

I will be making chicken noodle soup today. It was going to be Jana's chicken cordon blue casserole, but Bill has mentioned chicken soup twice now and I can take a hint. But I better go be getting the chicken out of the freezer. Though Costco sells cooked white meat chicken chunks now. That would be so easy. . .

Good morning everyone,Snow here & beautiful.Never last long in March as a rule but it's been broken before. But the temps are 30s it will melt some.

Maryz That is the DGS that served in the Army.On making a quilt I made him one before he went into service. And he has a king size bed now.Dont think my back will allow me to do one.Im thinking it over.Would love to but my back is giving me fits now from the twins quilts.

Chickie That was a varied menu.I too would have loved the liver & onions. But not the other.I wouldn't take a chance on walking by bad dogs.Theres 2 on our road but they are in a fence & not close to road.So happy Baby calf is doing better.

It seems so funny with this new time.Takes me a while to adjust.Going to be a lazy day & meal here.DH wants his bacon. For me turkey sausage & broccoli. We have cookies and ice cream for later. Becca

Good early afternoon from cold, wintery, SW. Pa...But, I shouldn't complain, just yet, we just have a little, mostly dusting but the "real" stuff is to come tomorrow evening...I was just down stairs checking the potty paper supply so I think we're OK.....

Mary, Sorry to hear Bill has the "punies" but sure you're chicken soup will take care of it...Hey, you being a woman, if you do catch "it", no one will know, right....I'll have to check your FB page, so anxious to see that quilt...AND my big day is tomorrow and that snow better hold out until I get back home...The gal I'm going with is also have problems with her DH so this should be a very interesting lunch, lol....

Chickie, I think taking care of any baby animal would be great..But, now, I have this vision of Miss Pocket Lint growing up and wanting to be a lap baby...But, what a joy just to see her "turn the corner" so to speak...And, I sure wouldn't want to take a chance with those dogs..Oh my is Tasha going to be beaming and how spoiled the baby is going to be.....
And, I do have to agree with Mary on last night's dinner menu...I'd be one of those having a burger, well done, please.....But, I do remember when I lived at home and we butchered, there would be certain people who would want "certain" parts of the animal and I would just cringe....

Becca, I have a feeling, we're having the same weather and I for one, don't like it...I did see this morning, snow had already hit as far west as Ashville, N.C. And gee, more celebrating in your household, the excitement just never ends....Hope your day is nice and relaxing...

I'm also hoping for a quiet day, this old body needs a few days to get used to the time change...And to make matters worse, when I went to change the bedroom clock, it decided it wasn't going where I wanted it to and then I wasn't sure what time it was. I put another clock on the dresser but of course it didn't light up so, talk about being lost..But, then why did I have to know the time in the middle of the night, right???
Had a very nice visit with Terry and his friend...I knew he was up for a quick business trip but didn't want to confuse Jim too much...It's been a few weeks since Terry has seen him and I think he was amazed at how quickly his Dad is going down hill..But, it sure was nice to sit and talk....
And I was finally able to show him "the quilt" and his friend was going to put it on FB...Still have to do a border and then the fun stuff begins.....

Today is going to be spent doing nothing...You now that nothing that happens everything I sit and read the paper or maybe just sit down....
For our dinner, I stuck a pork tenderloin in the oven and then make mashed potatoes, gravy and a veggie...

You all have a great day.....stay warm, stay safe....

Happy eating........

Eagle update:
Not much to report on our eagles near me...But, the little bugger, E( in Florida is really exploring the branches in his nest tree..One of these times, he's going to get those wings flapping and take off, either on purpose or by accident...The nest on the Mississippi River has 2 of the 3 eggs hatched..That's the nest with the 3 parents...There are so many nests through out the country, I literally could spend the whole day just checking on them.....

Good afternoon!

Dinner tonight is being brought to us by Matt and family. Roast, rice, gravy, veggie and something for dessert. He called and asked if we would like to have tbem cook and bring dinner out here- who could turn that down.

Chickie - little miss pocket lint will be very loved - just like Timi.

Becca - fun at your home!

Mary - Ethan is very entertaining. He has some of the funnest conversations. Where he comes up with some of these ideas, no one knows. Gracie is right behind him. Last Sunday, during the time they pass the sacrament, of bread and water, the young deacon handed the tray of bread to Kate and Gracie loudly announced NO! She is not a bread fan, but when the young deacon brought the water, she saw him coming, and then yelled out, come on! During this part if the meeting it is usually very quiet, but not with our Gracie.

Enjoy,
Jana
