SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Jan 2nd
Good stormy morning!
We woke up at 0400 to a good old fashioned thunder storm! Poor Bill had to go out and put a few chairs away and walk the dog. We do have a good, sturdy shelter over our picnic table so things that don't blow away will stay dry. By the looks of this morning's weather you'd think today would be a stay in and sew kind of day! However, it is SUPPOSED to clear up by sunrise - 7:30 - and be a sunshiny day, going to 73'! We'll see what happens.
JANA - happy belated birthday to Ethan!! I remember my fifth birthday very well. I got a green plastic ukulele and I peaked in the box while traveling in the dark to my oldest brother's apartment. It was also his 21st birthday. Mom made us each our own cake: His was chocolate with yellow sprinkles on it. Mine was pale blue with tiny silver balls. I always loved celebrating with him. So I'm sure Ethan is already collecting many birthday memories and he'll always remember that you made him a special cake for his fifth!
And, Jana, we did it! We beat your 'Niner's! You're welcome! And the announcer said the GM was fired during the game and they figured the ass't mgr was going to go, too. We watched with our neighbors in their motorhome. I told them all about you!
TINA - I'm thinking your family may want to consider alternate forms of birth control! lol! congrats on your new upcoming grand-baby. And still praying for a new job for Kevin, especially now!
CAROL - we were watching Big Bang Theory from our videos. We have all the seasons except, for some reason, Season 7. Need to put that on my birthday wish list, I guess. Last night we started over with Season 1.
IRISH - IRISH - glad you got out and went a little wild for New year's! And you'll like meetings - they serve more cookies, I hear! I love Christmas trees, too. I usually have ours up a full month, start to finish. But living around it in a small confined space - I only let it stay for 2-1/2 weeks this year. Your dinner sounds like all your men should be salivating! a great way to start the new year!
BECCA - sending you hugs for a brighter new year! From me to you!
CHICKIE - you've had lots of company the past few weeks! Are things settling down yet at your house?
Yesterday was a really nice day with the kids. After they left we went to our neighbors (he who lost his sister on Dec 30) to watch the Seahawk game. They still wanted us to come and it was a good distraction for him. I'd made chili in the crockpot, complete with Hatch chilies from Tina, but they already had black eyed peas waiting for us. I'd never had them before! Good! So tonite we'll have chili and maybe share with them.
The rain on our little tin roof is almost deafening! We also have wind, thunder, and lightening! Exciting! I better get off this computer!

Good morning
)
Mary, that was my thought too about the birth control but it's not just our family, I'm wondering if this generation is becoming immune to it and they need something else invented....crazy. I love the rain but the wind, thunder and lightening not really......I especially don't like lightening...scares the bagebies out of me.
Last nights Zuppa was so yummy and warming
) I needed it after getting cold out in the rain
) tonight will be spaghetti and then we can switch back and forth with the leftovers for a couple days
) my favorite meal; leftovers! LOL

Wow, a thunderstorm to start out the new year! We are foggy with 100% humidity.
I was up earlier than usual to go check on grand dog(s). One didn’t come home last evening, and I was over there three times. I was really concerned… Thankfully, she was there this morning and gave me lots of good love. I hadn’t put on my makeup, and good thing as I got a very happy, sloppy Lab-tongue face wash! I don’t know who was happier—Choc or me! I’ll go back again later today.
Happy new year! I don’t think I made it here yesterday or when… It’s just been busy. Way too many interruptions yesterday—I hope today has less traffic here!
Jana—happy birthday to Ethan! “Five” is very big boy important. What a cutie—enjoy!!!
Irish—we are party animals! Fun!!! We saw your eagles on the news!!!
We went to the annual NYE party at DS1’s and set a record for staying… came home at 11:30 and stayed up to 1:30! We had a real good time, and I got DH out on the dance floor several times. We were (as usual) the oldest ones there, and we showed the younger set how to cut a rug. LOL! I don’t think the grand kids knew their grandpa had it in him! It was pretty funny.
Mary—that sounds like a nice evening with your friends and, as you said, a good distraction. I like black-eyed peas.
Tina—your zupa sounds delicious! I might fix something in the soup line for me tonight. Congrats on being gremmie again!
I need to think of something for tonight. I’ll go get a package of hamburger from the freezer. I can add some to my soup and make a burger for DH.
Bon appétit!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Jan 2nd
Good early afternoon from a very dreary, just chilly, sad, SW. Pa.....The N.Carolina troops just left and already, I'm missing them, terribly.....
Mary, I do like a "nice" storm but let's leave out the lightening....Years ago, when we had our dog, Suzie Q, she would hide under the couch or bed and shake...Poor thing was scared to death...Now, the cats don't seem to hear too well.....With all the confusion around here, I missed the game...But, glad to hear they won....Good you were able to spend time with your neighbor, I'm sure it was extra good for him.....
Tina, maybe you're right about this generation being immune....But, what joy to get a new grand baby...Lots of prayers heading your way for Kevin.....I agree about leftovers being a favorite...Always tastes better the 2nd time around.....
Chickie, I loved reading about you and DH showing the youngsters how to "cut a rug"...My sister and her DH used to be quite the jitter buggers (before old age and weight gain, lol)...I know their kids can't believe the pictures and hearing from friends just how good they were...Jim and I didn't dance a lot but every once in awhile, I do miss those days.....
I can imagine how worried you were about the fur kid not coming home...We take care of a feral and if I don't see him or if he doesn't come to eat, I worry...These fur babies have given me more grey hair than my kids did, well, almost....Now, you have to admit, isn't that little eaglet just the cutest thing? And if the other egg doesn't hatch, this little bugger will be so spoiled...I am constantly amazed at how the parents dote on their little ones....
Jana, Are you sure Ethan is that old, can't be....Time is really moving too fast.....
As I said, my guys are on their way home and the house is too darn quiet....Jim was very confused this morning and when I told him they were leaving, he said, "that's a silly idea"...Of course I think it is too, lol.....And I was so proud of myself, no tears until they were down the street....Now, it's getting the house back to order, which might take a very long time, lol....The washer isn't coming until Wed. so all the bedding will have to wait....
Do have a question....Do any of you have a washer without the agitator and if you do, do you have to use special soap? Neighbor Ted, was saying he heard you do...All I wanted was something simple....Old people don't need all these new gadgets....
The fur kids are starting to give me the "look" so I guess that means a trip to Walmart...At our Walmsrt, we now have curb side delivery on groceries and if I could get someone there to pick and choose the cat food like we do, I'd call in my order, lol...Can you imagine, a whole order filled with cat food and treats?????Probably get me banned from the "call in" list......
I also need to get the bed room changed back to my sewing room..I know my machine has been so lonesome....So many projects twirling around in my head, don't know where to start....
Tonight's dinner will be leftover, pork, sauerkraut and a shriveled up hotdog...Don't think we need anything for afters.....
Hope you all have a great day......
Happy eating................

Good Morning Everyone!
Tonight's dinner will be Navy Bean and Ham Soup with cornbread. One of my favorites. Since I made it yesterday and there is cornbread in the freezer all I need to do is re-heat! It will be a wonderful meal. Although I cooked for a long time dinner last night was worth it, truly wonderful!
Irish - The movie was called "The Secret Life of Pets". Very cute! Your message yesterday was touching and I want to say you are very inspiring!
Tina - I like to switch between leftovers and fresh food too. I do think I will be freezing some of the soup today. My DH and I are looking forward to ham sandwiches for lunch today though!
Chickie - So glad the dog came back! When our furry friends don't come back when they should causes so much anguish. You wish they could signal their whereabouts. I guess now there is a phone app that you can subscribe to with a device on the pet collar. Wonder if it works?
Maryz - I think the storm you got last night was here a few days ago. We are getting more rain this weekend, but all week looks kind of dreary. I sure am not complaining though! We need all the rain sent our way! The drought map still is showing Southern California is Severe Drought.
I watched the parade start to finish this morning for the first time in many years. I knitted while watching. I am a beginner at knitting, but really enjoying it. I think I will go to the gym to watch the game. I can stay on the elliptical for an hour and come home during halftime to finish watching.
Have a great day everyone!
Carol

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Jan 2nd
Good afternoon!
For once I have something planned. Country gravy, browned rice, chicken, and broccoli. I am even making some Goodies! Cranberry Nut muffins and snickerdoodle muffins. I will freeze what is left for my breakfasts.
Ethan was so excited. As soon as we got there, he kept asking his mom Is is cake yet? He even succeeded at blowing out all of the candles on the cake. He is very proud of being 5!
Today we were watching the Rose parade - it's on my short bucket list - Gracie saw all the float riders doing the pageant or parade wave and started waving that way back to them. It was a hoot. Then she started dancing as well.
Well time to get baking,
Enjoy,
Jana
Oh yes, it's snowing - again. Michael already shoveled last night's snow of about 4 inches and now it snowing hard again, so far about 2 more. We will get snow everyday this week.
