SUPPER CLUB - New Year's Day!

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jan 01, 2017 12:59 am

Good Morning and happy New Year!! I am praying 2017 is a better year than 2016.

Yesterday morning our good friend parked next to us, Don, came over to tell us that his sister who lives here in Georgetown, died unexpectedly the evening before, Dec 30. Oddly, it was on my dad's death anniversary. Anyway, he was very upset and bowed out of dinner with us and spent the day with his family. WE felt so badly for him. So we went to supper with only one other couple and then we all came back to our campsite for a campfire. We've all had such a bad year, and so many of our friends have had rough times so we decided to write all the bad things down and have a little burning ceremony. Don and his wife, Linda, drove up just then so they joined us, too. It may sound sort of silly, but it really felt so very cleansing! Kind of gives us a new slate to start the new year.

Dinner at the Saltgrass Steak House was amazing. I eat a steak about once every two years, usually on New Year's when we are down here and last night was no different. And it was amazing! I wanted to lick that plate clean right there in the restaurant!

Today Autumn and Aaron are coming today for brunch. We are having bacon, hashbrowns, eggs, grapes, and mimosas. I'm also putting chili into the crockpot for tonite. Our evening plans were to watch the Seahawks game at Don & Linda's but since he just lost his sister, I'm not sure what will happen now. He may have family things to do or he may want the distraction of us. So we'll play that one by ear.

IRISH - What is Nick planning to study in college or has he made up his mind yet? I was wondering if he's into science (I think of him every time I see robotic competitions on TV) or wants to go to culinary school. Congratulations on your little grand-eaglet! I do think of them as yours, you know!

TINA - yes, another quilt top for you! And I've got another one under way here. I hope to finish it tomorrow. The directions for the Jan lotto have been clarified - at least in a PM to me - and now we can use whatever light fabrics we have so I might do the lotto after all. Did Kevin hear about the new job yet?

CHICKIE - we weren't too crazy lat night. We came in from the campfire at 7:30 and I watched 4 episodes of Big Bang Theory while Bill slept in his chair. Then we went to bed about 9:15, which, as you know, is late for us! lol!

CAROL - sounds like it's pizza season!

JANA - I like it! James Bond!! Glad Aaron finally got the shift he wants.

GQ - more pizza! I was thinking of doing pizza, too, but that will be later this week, I think.

Well, it's time to go get my chili started. Since my plan is to share it with Don & Linda if they are home this afternoon, I hope it will fit into his wheat belly diet. He has to lose some of his belly fat prior to having part of his colon removed later this month or early next month. So it's important to help keep him on his diet. I thought chili would fit in as long as I don't make the cornbread. But we may be eating it alone if they go to be with family instead. He's the one who lost his sister.

So what's for supper at your house? I know New Year's calls for specific foods like pork and black eyed peas and cabbage. But none of that here. Just chili.

Happy New Year!
So far no news on Kevin's job, the HR department plus tons of others in Santa Fe took extended time off and won't be back till Tuesday I believe it is, so prayers would be greatly appreciated. Also I don't think I told you all, we're going to be grandparents again, Kevin and Maria shared that little tidbit of news on Christmas morning. ... it was or first gift that we opened. ...I pink duck and a blue duck. ...I thought it was sports related LOL they said the ducks had a meaning so I guessed it. Another birth control baby for us. ... I'm thinking "the pill" doesn't work like it should, that makes 6 in our immediate family and another 10 that I know of with great nieces and another 8-10 of friends. ... and at least 99% of those were very good and never missed a pill! I'm thinking it's a 65% rate with it instead of 90 something. Kevin and Maria were planning on getting married anyway and they were already talking about when they would start a family so it's just a little sooner than they expected and Kevin for sure wanted a job so we're really hoping for them.
Mary, sorry about your friends sister.
Irish, maybe the male can be Mike :) but I do like James Bond
we stayed up to ring in the New Year, the last 30 minutes were the hardest, my eyes were telling me to go to bed LOL
I'm not sure what I'm making for supper, I sure would like some soup since I didn't get to make it the other night. ... Frankie wanted tacos instead that night.
Enjoy your day!
Tina

Happy New Year Everyone!
I didn't make it until midnight, but the movie about Pets was cute.

Tonight will be Ham, Scalloped Potatoes and Green Beans and Salad. I soaked navy beans overnight so I will be making Ham and Navy Bean Soup today for tomorrow's dinner watching USC and Pennsylvania.

Irish - The news hear has been reporting on the eagle nest in Fort Meyers so I got to see the new chick. Very cool.

Tina - Congratulations on the new grandson.

Chickie - Hope you had a good time last night!

Maryz - DH and I forgot to watch Big Bang last night. I don't think I will tell him. He fell asleep during the movie. lol So sorry about your friend's sister. Burning your bad memories sounds like a good thing to do, especially if it makes you feel better.

Jana - Glad Aaron got the shift. You are getting a new group of girls too, so you will have to let us know what you have planned for them.

Have a great day everyone!
Carol

Good afternoon from a very sunny and just chilly, SW. Pa....This is the way to start the new year, I guess.....

Mary, so sorry to hear about your neighbor's sister...It seems, 1 bad thing after the other, doesn't it? I do like your idea about burning all the bad things...I might have to do that even if I'm a day late (which is normal for me)....
Not sure exactly what Nick is thinking of taking in college but have heard him mention engineering...He is so darn good with building and designing those robotics, he should go into that field, maybe with culinary on the side..Someday, there might be a new show "Nick the Cooking Engineer". The other day he told me he had studied how the cast iron skillet actually worked and of course I guess I've been using it wrong.....What a kid!

Tina, a new baby, fantastic! Next best news will be Kevin getting that job...This is going to be a good year...

Carol (without the e) what pet movie were you watching? There are a couple that I want to get my hands on...Of course, our DGS hooked up NewFlex or whatever it is, last year and I have yet to give it a try..."But, Gram, he says, you can watch just about anything, just try it!" One of these days, lol....I had never started watching Big Bang but do catch some parts of it every once in awhile and it really does look good...There again, one of these days....AND I love your dinner......

We did go out last night and would you believe we didn't get back home until about 10:30...AND we did have a glass of wine (Jim had 2)...It was a fun night, glad we went...Tonight, we're going to the neighbors and finish up their left over cookies and also have a glass of wine....I keep this up I might have to start going to meetings...
So far today, it's been hectic...The boys slept in (very unusual, lol), wanted to be out of the house by 12:30 to go ice skating...I've been trying to "redd up" but doesn't seem to be working...I did put a pork roast and kielbasa in the oven and will add sauerkraut and hot dogs in a bit...Not sure when anyone will be home but with this dinner, you can eat any time....I was thinking of taking down the tree but darn, it does look nice, so who knows how long I'll leave it up....
Jim is watching the Steelers (through closed eyes) and I'm sure I can find something to do besides falling asleep.....

I agree about naming our new "daddy eagle"...Anything would be better than what they call him now....

I love today, maybe because we have a fresh start on the year, maybe it's all the good wishes and maybe just because or the pork/sauerkraut aroma coming from the oven....But, I do firmly believe it's going to be a good year, mostly because of all you good friends through out the country....You all hold a special place in my heart and I'll never be able to thank you enough for keeping me going these last few years.....I might be a day late for this but "here's a toast" to a Healthy, Happy New Year to all you special gals.....
Love you all!

Good afternoon!

I have a new cookbook - called - I have no idea what to cook. Must be a new best seller. Seems as if all my dinners are In it! LOL!

Today is Ethan's 5th birthday. He is so excited. We have 4 birthdays this month and so we will have a family party on the 8th - but Ethan was determined to have cake today, so he will get it twice. Little Stinker!

Tina - Congrats! What a fun Surprise! Prayers for the Job! Government moves very slowly in hiring. Where DH worked, the company made a list up of potential hires and it could be a year or more.

Mary - rooting for your Seachickens! Maybe next year, my Niners will have cleaned up the personnel and we have a decent qb.

Irish -saw where the one totally hatched and my news says they are now waiting for second egg. Glad you had a good time last night.

Well my quiet time is about to come a end - the kids are due home from church and Gracie will have missed me and needs my lap for loves, which is fine with me!

Enjoy,
Jana
