SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Dec 16th
Good Morning!
Who here watched the Seahawks/Rams game last night?? Show of hands! I was a happy Seattle girl when the Hawks clinched the NFC West title. Just so you know, I always feel a little sorry for the opposing teams (unless they win, of course!), even as I celebrate our victories. But I have a half-a-lifetime of cheering to catch up on as I never liked football until about 8 years ago. Now I love it! Go figure.
Later this morning, my friend/neighbor here, Linda, and I are going out to do a little bit of shopping. Bill and I are only doing a few small things for each other cuz, when you get down to it, we need nothing but a tailgate ;+}. And I helped Bill out with his shopping the other day when I saw a book of Fifty State Quilt Blocks. We decided we are going to look for a toy drive or the local food bank instead, and shop for that. When at home, we usually try to do something like this. Boosts the Christmas spirit.
CAROLE with an E - When you get back west again, if you like I can give you a call every morning when Supper Club is up and running! I'm here to help. And I love peas. all peas! Fresh, raw, frozen, and even canned. I, too, like them in salads. And what kind of potatoes do you serve with swiss steak? I'm never sure what goes best - mashed, twice baked, scalloped, boiled.
CHICKIE - I think you are off to Joplin today with your awesome cookie! Safe travels and have a good time visiting your DD. Do the Hooligans go with? If so, how do you keep that big cookie from getting squashed??
JANA - that F.P. Santa House of yours sounds like good fun! I'd like to play, too! Your prime rib comment reminded me of last Christmas. Bill and I spent it with Jim & Terry. Jim wanted prime rib. Our recently widowed friend who is the retired food artist from Hollywood said she has cooked hundreds of prime ribs so offered to cook it for them. She pulled it from the oven and proudly pronounced it "camera ready". It was beautiful! But she almost cried when she found out that all our family like their meat WELL done. haha! We've been known to fight over the crusty ends of roasts.
TINA - I hope your leg is feeling better today. Have you tried switching your foot pedal to the other foot? I had to do that a few years ago for the exact same reason. And it was actually surprisingly easy! Gave me much-needed relief on my over-used leg from ankle to hip. and my massage therapist gave me some exercises to do that really helped.
BECCA - Yes, I'm anxious to see Autumn, and she is coming for lunch tomorrow! Yay!! Though she came home for a visit in July and again in early November so she could see her Uncle Jim, so it's only been weeks since our last hug. Thank you for posting your recipe! Looks like I probably won't be making it in the RV though. Not enough kitchen room or pans! I have a couple questions though.
1. Any idea as to approx how many cups 5-6# of flour works out to be?
2. You gave yeast measure in "pls". Is that pkts, Tbsp, or tsp?
3. How long do you bake the cakes?
4. is the topping beaten like whipped cream?
CAROL without an E - how are you feeling now? Back to normal yet? Do you remember normal?
IRISH - sending cyber hugs your way!
Supper here is going to be tamales I think. Tina-made tamales with her special sauce. Very good! Also, maybe some Mexican rice and salad. Last night I made some great salads but I noticed my blue cheese dressing expired a month ago. So I tossed it (I ate bad blue cheese once and it was NO picnic later!). I used the Catalina dressig instead. Tasted funny on first bite. I checked that date and it was TWO months expired! Gaacckk! So I went salad-less last night. Tonite I'll be having Bill's 1,000 island. (I checked the date!)
I hope your supper tonite isn't on the 'expired' list!
P.S. among our RV friends here, sweets are made and passed around as gifts. But there is at least one diabetic in each couple so I don't want to be be sending cookies/candies to them. So I'm going to make Chex Mix instead. I'm hoping the recipe is on the cereal box because I don't have it with me. Chex, pretzels, peanuts, salt, worchestershire sauce comes to mind. If anyone has a more exact recipe I'd be grateful if you shared it. Or even a better idea!!

I googled Chex Mix and saw one site that says there are over 100 different recipes for it! Wow! Who knew that something that only has about five ingredients could have that many variations! But anyway, I got that covered!

Good morning! Well, I’ll soon be off to Pittsburg (not Joplin)—closer by a few miles. The cookie is in a pizza box and will be in the “trunk” of my truck under the “lid” where it rides nicely. I’m thinking that some (all) of the Hooligans may go with me. I know DGD will be thrilled to see them. I have vests for the little ones and leashes for all of them, so they can have a walk about, but mostly it will be in the truck cab for them. Still, they LOVE to GO! I’ll take a pocketful of treats.
I have no idea what dinner will be tonight. I might pick up some Chinese food over there. Tomorrow at noon is one of the family dinners, and I’ll be baking beer bread and baked beans tomorrow morning. Our family dinner will be HERE on Sunday.
Becca—that was some recipe!!! I can see making it and giving it. I used to make stollen wreaths for giving (before quilting). I think in retrospect, the stolen was simpler… I’ll copy your recipe…
Mary—one of the girls brought a sweet Chex mix with coconut and dried cranberries to a dinner one year… really good (not for diabetic). I don’t think I met a Chex snack I didn’t like… You can always add some “kick” to it with cayenne or Cajun and/or garlic salt/powder…
I need to pay some bills and get ready for brunch, then on my way East…
Bon appétit!

Good morning
Mary you gave me a chuckle. ... remember yesterday when I told you that I must be weird. ... well I really must be because my Charlie horse and pain isn't in my right leg that I use all the time it's in my left. LOL Enjoy your tamales! I've been meaning to ask you, are they hot for you?
Chickie, safe travels, enjoy your visit!
I'm not sure what's for supper yet. ... I'll have to think on that. ..

Good afternoon from a very, very cold, dreary, SW. Pa....You all know, I am not a happy camper!
But, I do need to make this a quickie...Jim and I both have doctor's appointments this afternoon and it takes awhile, getting us both ready, lol.....I had the call from our doctor saying to get my buns in for my belated (by 6 months) checkup and when I told him, I couldn't leave Jim, he said, bring him in also...So, maybe Jim can get a flu shot....The things we do, huh?
I'm not going to attempt to post, but did feel funny, missing in action for a few days (without a good excuse)...But, we are still eating.....
I have no idea what we'll have for dinner....You know, me, hoping the car will pick some place good.....Hopefully, we'll also get a few errands accomplished.....
Hope to stop back when we get home......
Happy eating.....................

Good afternoon,
On the table today with be spaghett and meatballs, garlic bread, and salad.
One more day and we will leave Sunday for S.C. Not sure what we will do to keep my DB entertained there.
Think that maybe the infusion is working...I feel great....no pain. How about that!!!!
Now if I were only at home I would be in the sewing room quilting those UFO's like crazy. Lol
Hope you all have a truly wonderful day!!

Good Morning Everyone!
Everyone sure is early with their posts!!! I am thinking of Macaroni and Cheese for Dinner tonight with Broccoli.
Maryz - Yes, I am almost back to normal. The nice part is I can go to the gym for a regular workout. Before surgery I was only doing upper body weights and only 30 minutes on elliptical with less resistance than I usually use. It is nice to be back to normal.
Chickie - Enjoy your visit with DGD. Yes, I think she will be glad to see Hooligans.
Becca - That was quite a recipe. I am curious to the answers to Maryz's questions.
Tina - You gave me a chuckle mixing up right and left.
Irish - Wishing you a good check-up! Also, hoping your car knows a good restaurant stop!
Jana - I do not usually watch football, but have been listening to all the complaining about the Rams on the news. I heard the fans booed the Rams. I don't know why they can't get their act together!
I finished my Christmas wrapping yesterday. The presents are under the tree. I need to clean my sewing room. I have a sheet I want to turn into pillow cases. I would like to get that done.
Our Parish Church had a giving tree for various charities. Some years we took bikes & toys to the local fire station for Toys for Tots. Our local Safeway/Vons has bags you can give too. There are so many opportunities to be giving this time of year.
Have a Great day Everyone!!
Carol
