SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Dec 9th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Dec 09, 2016 2:12 am

Good Morning!

I have my computer this morning!! Whoo Hoo!!

We had a little adventure yesterday. We've been dragging a fifth-wheel around this country for 16 years now. But yesterday was the first time ever that we 'dropped' it. Bill hitched up like he always does but for some reason forgot to do his little 'test tug' after hitching. Not sure the outcome would have been different though. We started to pull out of our spot in a casino lot where we'd spent the night and the trailer came unhitched! It dropped to the bed of the truck and took out our tailgate. Of our new truck. Our new trailer. Our tailgate with the back-up camera in it. Poor Bill was just sick about it. We were able to raise the trailer back up, re-hitch, and tie up the tailgate. It's a goner. Trailer just had some scratches. No one was hurt, cats are OK, and it didn't happen going down the road at 60 mph! So we were blessed. And I guess when we get to Austin, his first order of business will be to hunt for a new tailgate. We've been told that ranchers in Texas are known for buying new pick-ups and replacing the box with a flatbed. So new tailgates abound. It shouldn't be hard. But the back-up camera is an issue. Bill only has vision in one eye and therefore no depth perception. He really has come to rely on that camera. Don't tell him I told you this, but this is his third smashed tailgate in 25 years. He NEEDS that camera!

Today is the day we arrive at TINA'S. Are you ready, Girl?? We'll be seeing you this evening, pizzas in hand. The Arizona weather gods have been smiling on us the last few days. About 70*, give or take a couple degrees. We've been basking.

BECCA - I sure hope you and your hunny are feeling better by today. Especially that tooth. It might take a while for it to 'simmer down', I would guess. How is the fire situation? And how is your brother? I think of him every day.

VELDA - sounds like yesterday was an indoor day where you are. My DD in Austin said they are having two days of bad weather including icy conditions. If that's the case, we'll hole up somewhere and wait it out. Not looking forward to driving in ice, wind, or snow.

CHICKIE - sounds like it's C-O-L-D there! Brrrr..... I love you but glad we're not coming through Kansas this year! My brother in Alaska isn't much colder than you are! Your Hooligans are terrific! I bet you are a well-known foursome in town as you zip around in your little red truck!

JANA - I am so sorry about your tooth! But as my LDH#2, Roy, used to tell my kids when they had an owie, 'it will feel better as soon as it stops hurting'. Surprisingly, that comforted them. But I do hope you will soon be on the upswing. In the meantime, a few nights off cooking can't be bad . . . What a great find for Gracie among GGM's cat collection! I collect cats, too. In fact, my cousin stayed at my house for a few months when we were in Alaska in 2015 and her grandkids visited. She kept them amused by counting all the cat things around the house.

CAROL (without an 'e') - Yes, we are looking forward to dropping a lot of cargo at Tina's house. Toys that our grandkids have outgrown and Christmas decorations that I've outgrown, not to mention fabric I've collected for her over the past two years as well as a log cabin comfort quilt top I made in spare hours as we've traveled. And I'm anxious to see my 'baby girl'. And here's the fun part - a month from today my other two kids will be in Austin with us to celebrate that baby girl's 40th birthday! Seems they are making babies a lot older these days! lol!

IRISH - you collect cats, too? not surprising! I have about 7 of those big ceramic cats. And probably about 100 lesser ones. Black and white will always be my favorite, though. (don't tell my very fluffy calico, Riley I said that, please!) Glad you got your decorations out if not up. Over the past 8 years or so, I find I put out less and less. So much work. So when I do get out all the totes again, I'll be weeding them out yet again. If I were home, I'd be giving a bunch of things to my DGS, who is having fun decorating his OWN home this year. Yesterday he told me he had to do "UGH-lies" when he got home from work before he put up his tree. I'm so proud of him! lol!

Only about 275 miles to go today to Deming, NM. We'll spend some time reorganizing. We have stuff for Tina stowed in every part of this trailer and the truck, too. Wherever it fit around the even more stuff we are taking to Autumn! Then we'll find some pizzas somewhere, ready made or take'n'bake, and pop over to her house for a post-birthday visit with her and Frankie.

See you all down the road tomorrow!

Maryz: OMG!! How scary for dropping the fifth wheel. My DH has a hitch pin indicator on our hitch. He just said, after hearing what happened to you, he wil ALWAYS do a test pull from now on. Not going to rely on the indicator, as there could be a malfunction.

I sure hope you won't have anymore troubles and hope you find a new tailgate without much trouble.

After having such a busy day yesterday, I just made burgers in the skillet last night. They were actually pork burgers. Johnsonville Steakhouse grillers. Very good! I had never made them before.

Tonight I think I will be making Smoked Sausage, fried potatoes and baked beans. I need to cut of some lettuse and make a salad, too.

Hope you all have a great day, and find some good ideas to share with all of use for meals. I love to see what everyone is making.

Hugs

Good morning! It was 12 degrees here when I bundled up and went and let out the grand dogs. I just pulled sweats on over my jammies, a stocking cap on my head, scarf around my neck, big jacket and fleece gloves… I had to scrape frost about ¼” deep off the windshield so I could get down the road. Of course, the Hooligans were up for the trip. Odie came out late, when he was sure that we were ready to leave. He had been snuggled down in my warm covers with his head on one of my pillows when I went out the door.

Yesterday afternoon, we went to see Ava, then to see Choc and Maggie. I took the car, and when we came back, the Hooligans would NOT get out of the car! I guess they thought they should go on a road trip to the quilt shop or at least to town. I tried and tried with treats and everything to get them to get out, but there they stuck… Finally, I got back in and we went for a short ride around the sections. They got out when we came back in our driveway. Who has who trained???

Yes, Mary… I miss you terribly this year, but it’s colder than… you insert description… What an adventure!!! So sorry about the tailgate!!! So glad you weren’t on the highway!!! Hope you find a good tailgate when you get to TX! The first scratch is always the hardest, but that’s more than a scratch! Poor Bill!

I’m so envious of Tina—what a fabulous pizza delivery!!! Sounds like she is having lots of birthday celebration.

Irish—glad you got your mail! LOL!!! We should stuff your box more often. HUGS to you!!!

Vel—I might have to look for those “grillers”. Your dinner sounds delish! I’m always up for easy and quick… especially when I need to be in my sewing room!

Jana—Precious Moments Chapel was not far from where I lived in Missouri. A lot of people collect them.

Well, I’m off to my sewing room… I finished three more canvas totes yesterday. Now to make a few more things… runners, pot holders, table toppers… then I’ll be finished and can start thinking of my DGS’s birthday cookie (he will be 18) and Christmas dinner… I’m so far behind!

Dinner… the Gulf’s best “produce” and sides of some type… too early yet…
Bon appétit!

The tooth is still letting me know it's there sometimes but feel it will get better.

Chickie You & I always post at same time. Those Hooligans Sure have You trained.Thats too funny.Wanting all those treats they got in town.

Good late morning from cold, dreary, SW. Pa...No blue skies or sun today but it's nice and toasty inside......

Oh Mary, we let you run around the country and see the trouble you get into.....But, so thankful, you guys are OK, don't want to think about what could have happened....As Chickie said, that 1st scratch is always terrible...Feel so bad for Bill....And, not to worry, our lips are sealed....
Now to give you a laugh....In my dream last night I was at your house (I guess) and of course you were off running around the country...But, your daughter was teaching me how to use the long arm because Jim was getting me one for Christmas...And the funny thing, we were doing this outside in the yard......(And all I had before I went to bed was a bunch of chips and an orange)

I would love, love to be that fly on the wall when the pizza delivery people knock on Tina's door....Can you imagine! I'll bet we'll all hear the "excitement", all across the country......
Only thing better would be if we all could be there, right?

Tina, are you READY????

Chickie, love, love to hear about the traveling Hooligans....Hey, they don't sound spoiled to me but I think they have your number.....And please keep that cold weather out there, we don't want or need it here in the east......The mail lady is always glad to have me pick up the mail, also, lol...She just shakes her head and laughs when I'm trying to pull all the stuff out of the box...Yesterday I had a notice that we had a box and I got all excited, thinking it might be something that I had ordered...Well, you can imagine what I thought when I opened it and found 2 big Lego sets...Kathy had ordered them for Christmas for her son, Dan, who is now 28...On the Lego's it is marked for 6+....Some kids never grow up!

Becca. glad to hear things might be settling down in your neck of the woods and sure hope that tooth feels better soon....It's good that there is support for your DB, means a lot....Take care my friend.....

For our dinner, it's going to be meat loaf and baked potatoes..Haven't had it in awhile and this is a good day to have the ofen on......Besides, I like the left over meatloaf sandwich the next day......Don't think I'll be baking until tomorrow so it's graham crackers, again.......

Well, must run....too many things to do and not enough time.....

Happy eating.................

Holy macaroni Mary! Glad you all are ok but I'm so sorry about your tailgate and camera! Very glad the trailer itself wasn't damaged.
I'm so looking forward to Mary and Bill's visit! !! I always enjoy every minute!
Well you all know what my supper will be hehe wish you all could join us! I even had a miracle of miracles happen, after gutting my sewing room looking for a piece of batting I have it all clean now. ... which is a major improvement from what it was before the search for batting! ! LOL Easton helped :)
