Help with T shirt quilts
I lost a good friend this week very unexpectedly. He was fine at 11:00pm and dead by 12 midnight. Quite a shock for family, friends and community. This afternoon his widow asked if I would turn his t shirts into a quilt. I am very honored that she asked me. I am 100% positive he has enough t shirts for at least 2 if not 3 quilts. I know I need to put fusible interfacing on the back of the design. I am hoping they fit into a 12.5 inch square. Do you have any tips for me? I only hand quilt, which she loves. How would you hand quilt a t shirt quilt? Meander with thread that won't show? Thanks for any help.

DEB, I'm so sorry you lost your friend. It sounds like it was a shock to everyone. My sympathies. So sweet of you to agree to make a memorial quilt for them. SUZETTE here is the queen of tee-shirt quilts, and she probably has lots of good ideas to share. But I will share a few of mine. Meander is good idea and one of my personal favorite patterns. Crosshatching is another way to go and might be easier on a larger quilt. Perhaps each block would have it's own distinctive quilting to highlight whatever is on that tee-shirt. And don't forget the smaller logos on the shirts that might be on shoulders or sleeves or backs. They might make an interesting border, or perhaps cut smaller and put together to make a larger block. All kinds of creative ways to put together a tee-quilt. And it's so therapeutic for the quilter and a treasure for the recipient. Sew with God.
