SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Nov 26
Good rainy morning! We have ducks swimming on the back lawn so I guess that says it all. They will probably be there now until spring.
Yesterday we finished splitting/stacking all that wood! Yahoo!! That didn't take long, did it? We were almost finished when poor Bill got his finger caught in the splitter. OUCH! He's got a good gouge in it and it will probably be black/blue soon. But I didn't think it needed stitches, so he just got a big bandage and a boo boo kiss.
Sis and BIL leave today after we all go to breakfast at local restaurant with Terry. Except for a few weeks in October, this will be the first time we've been without extra folks here since end of August. I'm not sure Bill and I will know what to do with ourselves!
CHICKIE - your noodles sound like my mom's. I remember her measuring with egg shells, rolling out the dough, cutting the noodles, and draping them on newspapers over the back of the couch to dry. I make them the same way only I use a recipe from my old Betty Crocker cookbook. Yummy!
CAROL - your gravy 'recipe' sounds good. I love cooking with a bit of wine in sauces and gravies. And usually people comment on it. (in a good way! Not the 'usual' way. ;o] )
JANA - we grew up with a single milk cow. We drank raw milk and I remember the cream would rise to the top overnight in the fridge. It was so thick, my dad would pick it up and lay it over his hot mush in the morning! Mom made homemade butter a lot, too. and we had a lot of custard to use up the milk. I bet it will be nice to get all the extra stuff out of your house!
IRISH - happy Thanksgiving to you and Jim! Hope you are able to see Jackie. I promise I won't root against your Penguins. I assume they might be hockey? . . . I'm not even sure if there is a hockey team here. lol!!
HELEN - nice to have you join us at the table! Always nice to have a good cook in the family!
BECCA - My mom's yeast rolls were famous and I CAN make them, but I rarely do. I started using Rhodes frozen dinner rolls. and my brothers tell me "my" rolls taste just like mom's. I don't tell them my secret. I made them again for TG and my culinary-student-grandson and asked for my recipe.
I guess for our supper tonite we'll finish off the TG leftovers. tomorrow, we'll be looking for new food. Trying to empty the freezer so I guess we'll be eating the biggest food in there, whatever that may be.
How's the plan coming together at your house?

Good FOGGY morning! I can barely see the edge of the pond beside our house. We are at 32 degrees—glad I’m not driving this morning!
Mary—glad that cutting, splitting, stacking is all finished! When I help DH, it’s usually hazardous to MY health. He slings logs in all directions thinking he’s being helpful. I’ve been beaned, slammed, pinched, thumped, hit, rolled… you name it. I’m just trying to help load, unload, split and stack. DH is really hard on his help! Poor Bill! I know that hurt and probably throbbed all night. You did scrub it out well, didn’t you, Nurse Mary.
Rhodes’ rolls are THE BEST! I discovered them a long time ago too. I’m so clever (as opposed to lazy) that now when I make cinnamon rolls, I use Rhodes’ frozen loaves of bread. Thaw, roll out and slather with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon, roll up, cut, place in greased baking dishes, let rise, bake and frost… viola! Homemade cinnamon rolls!!! No one knows but the cook!
Dinner tonight… I cooked up some ground beef, so it will be taco soup or chili I think. Bon appétit!

Good morning!
My MIL would scoop off the cream as well and taught my kids to make butter too. She was a very talented lady and taught Sarah how to do things as well. I love a tablespoon or so of cream on my mush too!
Dinner - we will see - time to empty the fridge.
I am prepping dinner for tomorrow. Church ends at 4 pm, we have a meeting with the Bishop at 4:20 snd dinner is on the table at 5:30. Thank goodness all my kids know how to make a full blown Thanksgiving dinner. I will get the turkey stuffed and in cooking before we leave to church and Aaron will watch it as they are home from their Ward. Sarah will come early as well.
When Matt was serving his mission in Costa Rica, all the American missionaries wanted a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. None of them, except Matt had ever cooked a turkey before, so they got one - live, and proceeded to take care of getting it ready and Matt cooked the dinner. I took time when all of them were still at home to teach them how to cook and mend and even sew on buttons! When the boys went out to serve a mission, i couldn't have them go hungry!
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from a dreary, chilly, SW. Pa....But, I have the oven on and the house is nice and toasty....
Gonna be another quick post, busy, busy day....
Mary, glad to hear about all the wood being chopped but hate to hear, Bill got hurt in the process...I'm sure the booboo kiss did wonders....
Becca, Keep hoping and praying the air clear up for you...Sure wish we could round up some rain and send it your way....That's terrible about them loosing DB's meds...Always something, huh?
Chickie, I like the lazy way of doing anything...And I have used the frozen dough for making cinnamon bread or rolls...Now, I'm not sure why I mix up my own (little touched in the head).....I keep thinking about your noodles and hoping, maybe 1 day next week..
Well, today is our turkey day, again...Turkey is baking, pies are done and all the rest is ready to stick in the oven....But, now, Stephan and I are going to Dan's house to take care of his fur babies....He's in Belize for 10 days so Grammy is in charge of cat sitting.....Still not sure who all will be here later, could be as little as 5, could be as many as 10 but that's OK, we do have plenty.....
It's been such a joy having Terry and Stephan..It's been awhile since Stephan and I have actually been able to sit and talk...And I'm learning what a remarkable young man he is.....Good head on his shoulders.....
So, best get moving and feed some fur kids.....
Happy eating..........
Eagle update:
We have good news and we have bad news..The bad, the 1st egg must not have been viable or Daddy eagle found something wrong and buried it deep in the nest...But, Harriet has laid a 2nd egg yesterday and if all goes as planned, this egg should hatch very close to New Year's Eve...It's also possibly she might have a 3rd egg but we'll just have to wait and see......

Good afternoon
I just woke up from a nap. Everybody has gone home and my house is cleaned back up and all the laundry is all caught back up too! I was exhausted from all the cleaning, cooking and family but I enjoyed it all! We finished off all of the leftovers at lunch except a sandwich or two worth of ham so even my fridge is cleaned out LOL
I hope you all enjoyed yours at least as much as I enjoyed mine
I have hamburger thawing for supper and think I will do a hamburger helper tonight with a salad and call it good
unless Frankie takes me out to eat which would be great too and the hamburger helper can be tomorrow's supper hehe
