SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Nov 7th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Nov 07, 2016 2:07 am

Good Morning!

Looks like I kept my rain after all. At least the drizzly part of it. I don't care. I'm going walking this morning anyway. Scottie and I need some exercise. and we'll take little Hank, too - my sister's tiny sheltie. He weighs less than half of Scottie and he's 2 yrs older. And so stinkin' cute I can hardly stand it! We are his designated adoptive parents if anything ever happens to Al & Tina. . . . . Sure do love that dog . . .

BECCA - I hope escape routes from the fires are plentiful and open. I'm worried about you. Also, isn't today your dental appointment? Sending a hug and a cyber hand-hold while you are in the chair. I really hate dental work. Prayers that it goes quickly and painlessly.

CHICKIE - Love your pond descriptions! I've never seen a blue heron's nest though we do have one who lives on the little man-made lake on my morning walk. I've seen eagle nests though not up close. And I've had your cooking! No need for you to be concerned about cooking for a chef. I'm sure he learned a thing or two!

JANA - I think I missed a post somewhere. Is Stu coming home? for a visit or for good? Either way, I bet you are happy, happy! How is his arm? thank you again for that recipe. I'll be using it a lot!

IRISH - what fun to have such a tasty gift from CA! Is there any left?? haha! I've had those little squares. Bill bought me a bag once as a no-special-reason surprise just to keep in my sewing room for long afternoons at the machine. Of course, he knew where I stashed them and he visited often. ;o)

CAROL - heavens, no, I didn't think you were foolish. I grew up in a logging/bulldozing family. I forget sometimes that the everyday words we use here aren't everyday in other places. In his time, my brother was known as an artist with his dozers. But his favorite part of bulldozing was giving little kids rides on his 'cats'. >^+^<

My sis stayed at Jim's last night so Terry wouldn't be all alone in the house with Jim, who truly could expire at any moment. The house is big, creaky, old, and scary at night, too. My nephew should be back late today. Jim was awake yesterday and talking, eating simple foods, and drinking water, beer, and Pepsi. And he says he's been 'gone' a few times and he's been seeing our parents. He smiled and reached out to them. I don't doubt it. I've felt them around a lot the last few weeks. I will be glad for him when he goes.

Dinner is never a given around here these days. I never know how many I'm cooking for. But at this point in time, I'm thinking for tonite of making my version of "kitchen sink pesto pasta dish". I have kielbasa to slice into it, black beans, black olives, walnuts, broccoli, and you never know what else. Add a bit of garlic, basil, parmesan, and olive oil and we've got supper! With a salad. And some garlic toast, I think. I might make a blackberry cobbler today. I have berries in the freezer and I have a tendency to hoard them rather than use them so perhaps this will be a good day to use some. And wouldn't vanilla ice cream go good with that . . . .

There's going to be plenty so why don't y'all come on over! I'm in the house with the green mailbox . .

Good morning!

Mary - Stu will be coming home for a very short time, just to have surgery on the broken hand. It is not healing, so the doctors need to do a bone graft and a plate. The Mission President has told Sarah that Stu will be here for Thanksgiving. He still has over 7 months left to serve of his 2 years, so the Church will send him back out to his mission area after he is recovered from this surgery. We have found a hand surgeon here, just need Stu and the appointment.

Need to go and check out Pinterest for dinner menu ideas. I am bored with my cooking!

Heading to the Cave to sew,
Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning! It’s still morning here. I have a kitchen to clean up after brunch with DH and the hunter guys. They liked today’s fare—apple fritter coffee cake, Kentucky Legend ham slices and scrambled eggs. Tomorrow they have requested a re-run of the Dutch Baby Apple Pancake. That makes me feel good! Especially the chef’s compliments!

Dinner tonight will be leftovers of various items plus ribs that were a “care package” from last evening.

Jana—so sorry Stu’s hand isn’t healing properly. Hopefully the hand surgeon will be able to fix him up good as new. It’s a treat that you get to see him during his two years of service!

Mary—my late DH went through some of the “visitations”, too. One time he said he saw the light and heard the choir singing. I think after that he was pretty much unconscious for another couple of weeks at least. I made a blackberry pie/cobbler the other day. I tend to hoard my berries, too. Crazy!

The blue heron rookery is in the tops of sycamore trees on the shore of the lake. Bunches of HUGE, messy nests in the top branches… a nest in every tree—at least a dozen of them.

Mary’s gizmo came today—at last! I’m going to put it to use under my foot while I’m at my sewing machine. Hopefully it will make me all better. I really miss walking especially in this delightful weather!

Off to clean up the kitchen… Bon appétit!

Good afternoon from another gorgeous, warm, sunny, SW. Pa....Mother Nature sure has been nice to us lately, wonder what's she's up to and thinking, I don't really want to know......

Mary, You can send your rain down to Becca but right now, we don't want it.....And, there is still lots of candy left, this bag was over 2 pounds of those squares...Still working on 1 I don't care for....It's good that Terry has someone to stay with her and I know all about those old, creaky houses...And it does sound like Jim is at peace and although it's going to be "an end", you also must be feeling at peace knowing all that suffering is over.....I think that's what really got me through Chris's passing......
And your dinner does sound interesting, but you got me with the cobbler and ice cream....The house with the green mail box, you say!

Jana, Maybe I should check out Pinterest but then I need someone to want to eat, too.....I'm also bored with my ideas and at times have turned to the "mac n cheese" dishes.....Sure hope, Stu is taken care of and heals quickly.....

Not much happening in our neighborhood today, nice and quiet....Did have a little adventure this morning...Thinking my new locks would keep Jim inside, he went out the garage door...He was so determined to walk to the Post Office, out he went...So now, I have to figure out how to turn the door off when we're at home, I guess....Never a dull moment.....
I do have clothes in the washer and some on the line and other than that, it's going to be a sewing day, if I can talk someone into taking a nap....

For our dinner, I did take some round steak out of the freezer and hope to turn it into something edible.....

Happy eating...........

Question for the day:
What 3 things are the dirtiest, germ filled things you use almost every day? I'll give you the 1st 2 and you guess the 3rd...
1. Money
2. charge cards
3. tell you later.......

OK, answer to my "dirty, germy" question.......

Jewelry, especially rings....They say, with the rings, those tiny germs get under the ring and even though you wash your hands a million and 1 times a day, you don't get them all.....

Next time you're eating out, when the waitress brings your meal, check her/his hands....Almost makes you give up eating out, maybe!
