SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Oct 15th
Good morning!
Well, one storm down and two to go. We had a little bit of blue sky flit across the horizon yesterday but it went pretty fast because the winds stayed about 20mph all day long. Pouring now, but unless forecast changes, winds shouldn't arrive until late afternoon today. We filled up trailer with fresh water yesterday and Bill is going out for gas/diesel later this morning. My plan is to clean the house, especially vacuum and laundry just in case we lose power for a while.
CHICKIE - I've seen your ruler hanger. It's unique and handy! such fun use for old things! and I did find some baking mixes, so we'll be having gluten free pancakes. Also, eggs cooked to order for those who want them, hashbrowns, turkey sausage patties, bacon, fruit, orange juice, and coffee. I think we can pull it off and no one will go away hungry!
BECCA - did you go to your friend's visitation last night? Is night driving harder for you than sunny driving? Today will be a big storm alright - probably one of our biggest. But it will have to go some to beat five storms ahead of it that are vying for the title of 'Storm of the Century'. A huge snow storm in 1949/1950 was before I was born but our salt water harbor froze over enough for people to skate. I don't know about wind in that one. In 1962 we had a hurricane, though they don't call them hurricanes on this coast. That was the Columbus Day storm. I was 11 and vividly remember lots of details. SCARY!! 1990 and 2006 were also BIG wind/rain/snow storms with week long power outages. 1996 was a terrible ice storm that brought down a lot of trees. We will see where this one falls. Your DGS's area of Hood Canal usually gets hit harder than we do.
IRISH - glad you still have some flowers. I like your plan for next year! I have so many packets of seeds that I bought to do just that! and never got around to it! I'm laughing because of your Black Friday shopping trip! Sure - no one's out there to see you! lol!! she got you good! Bill and I went one time - got up at 0400. We ended up just getting gift certificates for everyone and were back home by 10. We could have gotten those certificates any time! lol! I'm giving you a special dispensation to feed Jim "mac and cheese" if he will eat it. We have to all pitch in to help him. But the rest of you are still under the ban!!
JANA - Ethan is so funny! They learn fast, don't they! I know it only took Bill one time through Costco to figure out the sample system! lol! he loves going on Sundays - even more samples!
VELDA - so your fishing stuff and boat are all put away for the season. Now all that's left is the party tonite! Enjoy!!
TINA - Is the house on your parents' property coming down today? Do they haul away all the debris or is that your problem? How are you feeling?
Tonite's supper is going to be whatever I can pull together with leftover cooked chicken, rice, and cream of mushroom soup. Wish I had some broccoli . . . That would go well in there, too. Tomorrow is our family brunch, if everyone can make it due to storm. I was going to get pumpkin pie at Costco and we we're all going up to see Jim and take it. But he has requested cherry pie. so I think a run to the store for some cherry pie filling (and broccoli) is in order. And I will make it like mom always made pies = topping the crust with cinnamon and sugar. He loves that, but his wife won't do it because it was Mom's 'recipe' and she didn't like my mom. If we lose power, I have my back-up kitchen out in the trailer.
Got any good menu ideas to share?

Sorry I didn't make it yesterday, Frankie is sick now and I had him and the boys to take care of. I made chicken salad for lunch and my crock pot over full of veggie beef soup for supper and all weekend yesterday. I'm doing a lot better just need to get rid of this cough. I slept 9 hours last night, I was so tired!
Mary, your storms sound ominous! The contractor tears down the house and halls it all away and cleans up 5' all around where the house was even so Frankie only had to mess with the rest of the property. ... mostly weeds and a few native bushes and some pens I think were for chickens oh and an old shed that was used for what we don't know but it's nasty. I'm glad you're making your mom's pie recipe for Jim. ..I just don't understand your SIL not wanting to make him something that he loves just because she didn't like the person who made it for him in the first place. ...I just don't get that.
We're having soup for supper and the leftover chicken salad for lunch. Oh Mom and Dad's house demolition will happen Monday morning. ... wanna come watch? LOL pull up a chair over at my brothers house. .. best view

Hello Everyone,Sun made it out.looks like Fall here as leaves are really changing now.Very colorful this year & later too.
Maryz I did go to visitation but went early & got home quick. All the family was there so it worked out good. The sunny & nite both bother my eyes now.I won't drive at nite.I got home before dark. They are very sensitive to light.
Oh goodness I don't like storms.Thats a lot to deal with. Our worst was the blizzard of 1993 in March.A foot of snow & no power for 6 days.Very frightening Bec it snowed for 3 days solid & it was a white out. They went door to door with a Humbee checking on people in county. They came to our house to see if we needed food or Meds.I was thankful but we were fine.Would be different now with DH like he is.A time you try to forget.Schools were closed a wk due to power & trees down.
Our DGS has been in his new Home 1 yr & 4 months now. They enjoy it.
Tina That sounds like a major job.Getting parents in.Hope DB can help your Frankie out.You need a rest vacation.Glad you got some sleep.
Velda Enjoy your party & time with DSs family.
Irish I did plant lots of seed this year & they did great, zinnias & cosmos,& merrigolds.I save them each year & buy some too.
Today I'm making Dinner chowder. Its quite tasty & filling.Has potatos onions Tomatos celery, cheese & milk. And DH likes it.One thing we both eat.Enjoy your Dinner. Becca

Good afternoon from sunny, warm, summery, SW. Pa...Yep, we're back in the summer mode and boy does it feel good...Although the nights are chilly and I need my flannel PJs but during the day, it's great....
Mary, I do like your menu for tomorrow and sounds a lot like our's when I have the crew...And thank goodness you have the camper kitchen if you do loose power...Holy Moly, those storms do look terrible...I don't know where I've been but I didn't think you had bad storms out your way...As you can see, I only come out of my cave every once in awhile....I'm with Bill and Ethan with the Costco samples...I love that store but only get there when the gal friends plan a run...And then we have to take 2 cars because there are 4 of us and we always buy those giant packages of potty paper...But, we sure do have fun.....
Becca, was wondering if you were able to go for visitation....Any more, we just don't do things at night unless it's an emergency, I just hate to be out at night. Our leaves are also turning and Mother Nature is starting to put on a spectacular show...Every year, Jim and I would ride up to a resort, Seven Springs, for lunch and to be a "leaf peeper" but this year, not sure...I try to save my seeds from year to year plus, pick up so many when I'm shopping..My friend in Florida used to laugh at my collection of seeds that I would "have to have" before I came back home....Zinnias and Merrigolds do the best for me....
The only storm I really remember was from way back in 1950, the year I had broken my femur and was in a body cast, stuck in bed while all the kids were home from school and out having fun in that snow...And at that time, the turnpike was closed down and truckers had to get off at the Irwin interchange and people in Irwin opened their homes to take care of those stranded.....We did have a bad one a few years ago but I was in Florida probably in shorts and barefeet, lol....
Tina, Gee whiz girl, Frankie sick, just what you need....I would love to come and watch the excitement...Hey, you could charge admission and serve snacks......But, it will be good to have your parents close by.....
Well, my day is getting away from me and I haven't accomplished too much....We did get up to Dan's and take care of his 2 fur kids...He and gal friend flew out to Kathy's and will be gone for a week, so Gram has cat duty.....And, I did have a call from his sister, Jackie and she and fellow are in town for the Hockey game tonight and will be here for breakfast/brunch tomorrow...Just the 2 of them, so I won't have to make a lot....But, I am trying out that new apple strussel recipe I saw on Tina's FB page.....
As for dinner, could be soup and sandwiches....I have a feeling neither one of us will be hungry (I've been nibbling)......
Happy eating..................
I've had an idea.....After watching the eagles build their nest in Ft. Myers, wouldn't it be great if we (humans) would take a lesson and work together as they do...They have accomplished so much and all without the hatred and or spending millions....And we're supposed to be intelligent!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Oct 15th
Good afternoon!
I am playing on Michael's other computer at the moment - he is downstairs, so he can't see me mess up his settings! LOL
Aaron has to work tonight, Kate and Gracie are going to a chili cookoff in their Ward, so that leaves me and Michael here - so it will be out for dinner! We will probably go and get some takeout and eat it watching trains. We won't be able to do this much longer as the snow will get here and it is too cold to sit in the car to watch trains! Almost that way now.
We are on the hunt for a special sink for the downstairs bathroom. Large enough to get a bucket in, like a utility sink, but still nice to look good in the bathroom. I think that we are going to get a utility sink and dress it up in a nice looking cabinet. I want the basement to look good, but keep getting told that it is a basement!
We are using a barn door for the door to the bathroom that is hung from rollers, I won that battle, it is the only type that will fit!
I have given Scrooge my Christmas wish (want) list - the bathroom in the basement, my tile in the kitchen done and my new chandaleir hung. Not much - I have been patient enough!
Not much here - it will be a long winter and only Fall now, and I am already getting cabin fever!
Enjoy,
Jana
