SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Sept 30th
Good Morning, Ladies!
I think this is our last nice day here. Going to mid 60's or so but rain is starting tomorrow. Not big rain, but showers for the next several days. I may do a bit of yard work today after visiting Jim at the hospital. My sis is borrowing our car and going off to visit our cousin for lunch so I will have a little free time. And if the yard thing doesn't work out there is always vacuuming, laundry, cooking, and sewing to keep me entertained. It's good to have choices in life!
No more talk yet of Jim going to nursing home. He is going to have radiation at medical facility attached to the hospital, starting today, for ten days. And the radiologist wants him to stay 'in-house' for that because he has such a hard time with patients getting to him from the care facility - about 10 miles away. His surgeon was ready to discharge him to care facility where he could get P.T. So we'll see which doctor wins out.
IRISH - I love all your cookie choices, but have to admit I've never heard of Lady Locks. But I'm sure I'd love them, too! You almost sound like you're deep into holiday baking - only better! Sorry about all the confusion over the weekend respite care. But sounds like you have it all settled. But I loved your comment that the Social Worker just might be having company this weekend! Way to go, Irish! and banana bread does that to me all the time. I actually prefer baked things a tad underdone, but my quick breads seem to turn out baked on the outside and soupy on the inside! Nice save!
CAROLE WITH AN 'E' - welcome!! Glad to have you at the table! And ribs and sauerkraut sound tasty here! a pretty fancy dinner for not having shopped yet! I hope you are able to save your palm tree. And I hope we see you more often here! Someone's always got a good menu idea for when you have those 'no idea what to fix' days. Though you have to be careful, because 'some folks, have illegal ideas about banned substances.
- oh, and about garage door openers. Ours quit, too, last December. Bill called the company and they asked if we had LED Christmas lights on our house. Yes. They said for some reason LED Christmas lights, but not regular lights, interrupt the electrical connection to the garage door opener. Who knew??
SHERRY - I have often said the inventor of the crock-pot should be awarded saint-hood! I have three of them and use them all a LOT. Just don't put any kind of seafood in them because that would be 'illegal' on this site. Nothing. None. Nada. Unh-uh. Don't do it. Not here!! And you can see, everyone abides by the rules . .
CHICKIE - except for you!! You are such a rebel! ARRGGHHHH!!! Swordfish steaks!?! really?? We've sunk into total chaos!!
JANA - do you make wedding cakes often? I've only made one - Autumn's. And I had only 1 week notice that I was baking it. and it was four tiers high. I made it from scratch and I baked for 12 hours solid that day. And the big square layers took 4 'batches' of batter. And when I baked the first one, I realized my oven was 1/2" too small to accommodate the pan. The oven door hit up against the pan, tilted it, and the layer came out 1" on one side and 3" on the other. I had to remake it and bake it in my neighbor's oven.
Last night my sister treated us to pizza, so no cooking here! Tonite will be different. I think I'll bake that chicken I mentioned a few days ago with a creamy mushroom sauce, scalloped potatoes, and asparagus. And we might have leftovers enough for another night.
Bon appetit`!

MaryZ I, too, was shocked yesterday when Chickie mentioned swordifish. Maybe we got hacked or something. Was she drinking so early in the morning that she lost control???? POor Chickie..... She will never live this one down. lol
Today on the menu will be Brauts on a hard roll with some kind of potatoes. I will be busy with my quilting group..so Ken will be grilling them.
Off I go to my quilting group.

Good morning!
Short time here as I need to finsih doing the posting of the checkbook for DH - it is that time of the month again and boy he gets to be a grouch! I usually hide!
Mary - sounds like that Jim is in good hands and keeping there in the hospital will be the best to start the treatments.
Don't quite have a plan for dinner yet. I will be helping - teaching - Kate how to make some treats this afternoon. She can cook - just a very little, so while she is here, I take every chance I can to help her learn.
Well must scoot,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Sept 30th
Good afternoon from a semi sunny but chilly SW. Pa....
This will be really quick...Jim is bathed, packed and ready to go....I've told him, he's going for some therapy and to make sure his meds are all in order and when I pick him up, he'll be feeling super...He also thinks, I'm having my foot taken care of and won't be able to drive for a couple of days but that young Jim and his family will be stopping by to see him....So far so good, (with Jim, I'm a total wreck)....
Mary, you would love, love Lady Locks...They are just little 2 inch rolls, made from puff pasty and filled with heavenly creamy filling...Cindy makes the best and is always nominated to do her thing....Glad to hear DB, Jim is going to be well taken care of.....
Well, as much as I'd love to stick around and chat, gotta get moving....As for dinner, that's not going to happen.....Won't be having much of an appetite today......
I probably won't be back at the table until I get back, either late Sunday or Monday....Excited about the wedding, not too about giving the blessing but I'm sure it will be fine.....
You all behave yourselves while I'm gone...Maybe someone should really have a talk with Chickie.......

Good morning
Chickie I'm laughing at your sword fish. ... you shocked em all!
Mary, sorry that it looks like your trip is cancelled but I know you wouldn't enjoy being away thinking of Jim all the time. Hugs
Carole, Hello! Sorry I missed your welcome home party! Sorry about your auto watering system, a true bummer.
Jana, my son's girlfriend doesn't cook much but he's teaching her a lot. Her dad wouldn't let her mom teach her or her sister how to cook or do anything so they wouldn't leave home. .... didn't work, both those girls left as soon as they graduated high school and turned 18! They both went to college and have good degrees.
Mom and Dad took us out for a celebratory supper last night, They closed on their property yesterday and take possession today. Now for the hard part. .. lighting a fire under their
hiney to get them moved.
Supper tonight will be tacos and Spanish rice.
Tina

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Sept 30th
Hi everyone. I decided to check in and see what's cooking.
I made a huge batch of chili yesterday. I have been waiting for this cooler weather so I could fix it. Hummmmm!
So tonight is left overs. It's always better the second night.
Maryz. Sure hope your brother gets to just stay put for those treatments. It will be easier on him and the staff as well. I know your life has been hectic, but seems like you are dealing with it all quite well. Prayers for your whole family. Hope you will still be coming to Texas. Do you think you will have to give up your plans?
Tina: Tacos sounds so good.
Jana, Carole, and Irish, great to see you all here, too.
Well, best get going and check the other threads and see who's around and what's up with everyone.
Hugs and thanks for letting me stop by.

Good Evening Everyone!
All is well here, just eating very little. Yesterday DH had a Stuffed Pepper Casserole, so tonight we finished it.
This morning the colonoscopy went fine. I had only one polyp removed, so will find out next week.
A few weeks ago I mentioned my sister in law's brother. He had a sepsis infection after colon cancer surgery. Since then they found cancer in his lungs as well. (I do not think he ever smoked.) Yesterday, they put him under anesthetic to remove fluid from his lungs. He hasn't awakened. Please continue your prayers.
Becca - I have been thinking of you and hoping recovery is going well.
Maryz - Prayers for your DB Jim. You must be enjoying your sister's visit. Sorry your trip south has been cancelled.
Irish - Enjoy the wedding. Your blessing the young couple is so appropriate! You are such a devoted wife to Jim.
Chickie - Oh dear, did you mention a forbidden fruit?
Carole - I have no "e". Quilting groups can be so much fun, enjoy!
Jana - I am sure Kate has a good teacher! Good bonding time too!
Tina - Good your parents place has closed escrow. Moving is difficult at any age.
Velda - Our weather is supposed to cool this weekend. If Maryz won't use up all the rain we may even get some!
I am resting today, no sewing. (I don't think I trust myself sewing anything.)
Sweet Dreams Everyone!
Carol
