SUPPER CLUB - Tues, Aug 30

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Aug 30, 2016 5:59 am

Hi there!

I'm a little late, but I got my walk in and our supper is in the crockpot - Southwest Chicken to be served over rice to be cooked later.

IRISH - good on you for learning to pump gas! I love traveling in Oregon - they are the only state in the country who still man the pumps for you. Though not for the 'service' aspect, but because they say it's a safety issue. But funny - they let you pump diesel yourself. Maybe they don't care about diesel drivers . . Glad you have some options for assistance when you start to need it. Also glad you didn't fall off any ladders!

TINA - how's it going today? Do you feel any better after the medications you were given?

JANA - We would LOVE to sell our trailer to Matt. But if he has kids, then a bunkhouse model is a good choice for them. Though we do have a jack-knife couch that drops down into a bed. . . And Bill might be pursuaded to deliver . . . And it does have new carpet, flooring, toilet, fridge, stove, wallpaper, curtains. And it's been lovingly cared for and stored under cover . . . And has nearly new Michelin tires. . . It's made us happy happy happy for a long time!

CHICKIE - sorry about the new recipe. I like SOME Thai food, but not much. I think the peanuts are all I like. No cupboards are big enough for my tray, a special one friend Lois gave me 20 years ago for our RV. No walls, no doors. So I think it will become an indoor tray and I'll look for a rectangle one that will ride on top of the cabinets. It will stay there while "in flight" with non-slip shelf liner. I've made bigger adjustments in life! lol!

BECCA - Oh, I think a massage will help. It probably won't cure, but will most assuredly help. Sometimes pain is just caused by tight muscles. Do some deep breathing during the massage. That helps to relax muscles and also oxygenates them. My first massage was a gift certificate and I was so hesitant to go. But I did it and was hooked immediately. I have an appointment Thursday morning. :o)

In a few minutes we are off to the church - 1 mile away - to haul wood for Jim & Terry. Bill is going to drive the tractor down and I'll follow in car. J&T will bring their trailer down and we'll load it with tractor. I've already loaded up on Aleve. Going to be a busy, tough morning. For us all. Jim is in wheelchair now most of the time, but I think he's going to try to get up on the tractor where his muscle memory will kick in and he'll have something he can do. Give him a bit of his old life back for a little while. Getting him back down off the tractor will be the tough part.

What's for supper?

Good early afternoon from a darn near purrrrfect day, here in Sw. Pa...It's in the high 70s, lots and lots of sun and a gentle breeze...Want to bottle it up and keep it for January.....

Mary, I was indeed proud of myself at the gas pump, lol...You mentioning Oregon law brings back a funny story...Years ago, when the girls were dancing and we were traveling all over the place, Kathy pulled into a station in N.Jersey, jumped out and started pumping...The fellow came running out and said, "How did you do that?" She told him, took the cap off and started the gas and he had a fit! "You're not allowed to do that" and on and on...Then when it was time to pay, instead of coming to her window, he stood way back at the passenger side window and stretched his arm to get the money....We figured he was afraid of Kathy...That was also the 1st time we had seen, I think what they called "Jug handles"...When you make a right to turn left...We sure did learn a lot on those trips, plus have so much fun and good memories......
Hey, I have a good idea, if I buy a big truck, would you and Bill deliver the camper to Pa.? Of course you'd have to stay and take me camping to show me the ropes...Good idea, huh???
Does sound like you have your work cut out for you this afternoon...It's good that DB, Jim will be able to help......

Tina, sure hope you're feeling better and start having good days....

Becca, how's things in your neck of the woods today? Hope DH is feeling better today....Are you used to being back to the quiet yet? For me, it usually takes a good week....

Jim was up bright and early this morning so all the uglies were done before noon, even the ironing...Not sure what we might get into this afternoon...We could start on the out side and put some lawn chairs back in the shed....I don't like to see summer end and I sure don't like the work that comes with it................

As for dinner, I really don't have a clue...Jim loves mashed potatoes so maybe chicken and gravy and his potatoes...

Happy eating................

Hello everyone,Sunny, dry but not steamy like we were.

Maryz Too late now the massage was this morning.I didn't know what to expect. It did relax me.Still don't know on back.It helped .my DD has been getting them for some time. She tried 10 yrs ago to give me one.I was very reluctant.Dont plan on doing anything this afternoon.

Irish So happy to hear you have help if needed.I have been pumping for years.Loved it when they pumped washed the windshield, checked the tires. Those were the days.
Yes it takes a while to get back to normal.DH is still feeling the effects. But I expected that. One day does him in but 3 is way too much.

I plan to take it easy to let myself relax. It was funny .I drove slower coming Home.
DH still isn't eating much.It affected me too.Think the heat gets to you. Will be lite.Salad for me & pimento cheese sandwich with soup for him. Becca

Good afternoon! We have a heat index of 109! The humidity went down to 71% when we went to town and mowed. That was a hot and dusty job! So glad we only had one to do as opposed to the 4 or 5 we had when DH and I first got together! When we returned, the Hooligans wanted to GO! So, I took the ATV and we went to see Ava. Now, I want to get into my sewing room. Too hot to do anything outside!

Tina—I read your post in Sew In, and I learned I can refrigerate my avocados. Great news for me!!! I always thought I had to eat them all when they ripened or they got yucky like bananas. Thank you!!! I sure hope you are able to get your legs fixed! You are too young to keep putting up with that!

Irish—That’s a funny gas station story! I remember when some places were self service and some were full service. I think there is one “service” station in the next county. I like your idea for Mary and Bill to “visit”!!!

Becca—I like the idea of coming home and relaxing after your massage to “let it take effect.” The heat has definitely gotten to me. Some pimento cheese on crackers sounds good to me! I need to add pimentos to my shopping list…

Mary—that’s a lot of fireplace wood you are cutting! I’m still trying to find a place for your tray… a bracket under the table? Be careful with Jim on the tractor!!! That’s scary!

Dinner here may be BLTs with honeydew melon…

Enjoy!

Good afternoon!

Gracie is down for her nap, Kate is doing homework, and the house is cleaned, just needs me to finish dusting. Daniel and family will be here Thursday night. The other kids will be here on Thursday as well to finish up a couple of projects and we will have a bonfire, in the fire pit, to burn all the weeds. Good thing we will have a fireman on the premises! LOL smores will be made! We cheat and use the Keebler shortbread cookie that is dipped in chocolate and then squish the toasted marshmallows in that. Easier for the little ones to make.

Dinner - Kate has something planned, easy and won't dirty the kitchen, but is unknown to me right now. DH has a Dr., appointment late this afternoon, so Kate is cooking.

Enjoy,
Jana
