Hello from very soggy South Louisiana

Post by AbitaQuilterMom » Mon Aug 15, 2016 3:51 pm

Hi everybody, We are high and dry here in Abita Springs. God is good! We have some friends that are not so dry. They were putting the finishing touches on their house from the flood back in March. Now all is lost again! The family is fine, just very depressed. As you may have heard, there are places around Baton Rouge that have never flooded before. Please keep those people in your prayers. Ordinary people are using their little boats to rescue families. Just when you think all humanity is going to h***, people surprise you! My prayers go out to all my fellow Louisiana residents and to all of you. Hugs to all, Abita

I have been watching the floods. What an awful thing. Yes, you are right when you say ordinary people are coming to aid their neighbors. I hope your friends will be okay. Katrina was a horror! We were there last summer and saw the disaster still there.
I pray for all the people affected by these.
Please post again, hopefully with up dates.

Diane

Abita, thanks for your post. You put a personal aspect on all the news stories we have been seeing. So sad. And how ironic that the story on the national news following the floods was about people losing everything in fires in the west. If only we could get these two disasters together . . .

Abita--I'm so glad you checked in!!! I was thinking of you when I saw all the devastation and wondered how you fared. I feel so badly for the people who have lost everything multiple times. As someone who has lost everything once in a fire, and knowing what it took to come back from that and how long... my heart goes out to everyone... it is broken seeing their losses. I'm so glad to know there are people helping and not looting and taking advantage of others' tragedy.

Keep checking in with us! We care!!! We've missed you around the dinner table!

So glad you are dry but see the damage on the news and pray for those who have lost it all.

I have bee watching the floods and it is hard to believe all the stories that abound, especially when people leave their pets, changed up and wonder how many died. The just makes my blood boil and I hope the ones who left their pets get charged with animal abuse. No excuse for this behavior!

If my pets don't go with me, then I do not go either.

As sad and brutal it may sound leaving the pet behind is best you'll find him when you return. Hopefully, some kind person will feed them.
Taking with you is ideal but the person doesn't know where they will be going themselves and in a shelter with all these people the dog be displaced and upset. Worse comes to worse hope that humane will gather the animals and hold them safe and fed in their shelter to remove the stress on person..

It breaks my heart to leave my cat only to go for groceries so I can imagine the pain it is for them to leave altogether.
