SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Aug 11th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Aug 11, 2016 3:02 am

Good Morning!

Kind of a lack-luster day around here. Warren's funeral is this morning. We should be home by 1pm and then plan to do something we enjoy. DH has some of his projects going out in his shop and I will go to my sewing room to work on Christmas swap blocks. I also have a few mending jobs to do. Not a fan of mending, but sometimes ya gotta do it. Also I want too make a wedding quilt using Eleanor's Tennessee Waltz pattern, but I'm stumped on colors. I've never met the groom-to-be so don't have a handle on him. My girlfriend almost always wears black, sometimes accented with red or burgandy or gold. Black just seems wrong for a wedding, but I'll do some sketching and coloring . . Ideas are welcome! Chickie? . . .

IRISH - you have had an - uh - interesting(?) - week for sure. I'm happy your neighbors were there to help. How is your foot after your run-in with hornet? It probably didn't do him any good either. So glad your Kathy is coming to town! How long can she stay? Didn't you say this was a short visit? When does Terry come back? And I, too, am interested in the dog med he is using. It was flea med day two days ago. I haven't gotten to them yet. I'm not sure we need the med - we only use it in summer months. I've seen one flea on the kids (and one on me!) in the last 10 years. We treated our whole house with boric acid powder and it seems to last forever.
I had to clean out under my sink the other day, too. It was already overdue and then I tipped over the full trash can. Ugh!! What a mess!

CHICKIE - oh no about the hay!! I remember cutting hay and then racing the rain to get it into the barn! I hope they don't lose it! Sorry Tasha wasn't feeling well. The phones nowadays are endless entertainment, aren't they? Bill is attached to his just like a teenager.

TINA - are you better today? I, too, need a refresher on the name of that Mexican zuchini dish. My neighbor has a lot of them and is looking for new and interesting ways to serve up zucchini. How are your parents? What did they decide to do about your mom?

JANA - Here's hoping the kids are in their new home for Christmas. It's exciting to spend your first Christmas in your own new home! Or even in your own OLD home! Sorry your can't get your freezer now. When we went shopping for appliances we learned that Home Depot isn't doing well, financially, and more often than not doesn't have appliances in stock. So we went to Lowe's and found the same brands and models in every color - all available on the spot. Of course, there are other places, too, but in our area, they tend to cost a little more.

BECCA - Fun to see the little ones yesterday! Do they have a name yet for the new one? I've been trying to guess a name that would go with Tallulah and Sawyer. My cousin's little granddaughter is Clara. Please don't let them name her Clara. Which is funny I don't like that name because MY daughter is Lara - they sound almost identical. (yes, when her dad and I were dating Dr Zhivago was popular and "our" song was Lara's Theme).

CAROL - yoo hoo! Ringing the dinner gong!!

Tonite will be homemade pizza again. I still have 1/2 jar sauce and half package of turkey pepperoni left so time to use it up.

What's the supper story at your house?

Sorry I forgot to post the name yesterday, still not feeling great.

Calabacita
chop 1 onion and 4-6 green chile put into fryingpan with a little olive oil, add 1-2 cloves minced garlic. while that is cooking chop up a yellow squash and zucchini, add to pan, cook till about done, add either canned or frozen corn then top with cheese, heat till melted. I do mine a little different by adding a chopped up baked potato when I add the corn, then add 1/4 cup milk and the cheese, cover till cheese is melted.....Frankie says this is my Mexican goulash

Mary, hugs to you all at the funeral, so sad to say goodbye.

I was going to write more... Got interrupted by Easton accidentally running over Preston's fingers and now I have no idea what was on my mind. If I remember I'll be back again.

Here's a link to a recipe, you'll have to copy and paste though.

I have to make new food tonight. Boohoo.

Good, almost noon, from warm, summery, SW. Pa...All that rain that "they" have been predicting has yet to make it this way and we sure could use it...

Mary, it is always say to tell a loved one goodbye but just keep thinking of Warren and his bride, hand in hand, once again....I would be at a loss as to what color to do your quilt...If you found fabric with some black in it, might be good....Knowing you, it will be a master piece....Kathy is coming in this Friday, late, and leaving on Monday, much, much too short...The shower is on Sat. and she did call Cari's maid of honor and told her she was coming but not to tell Cari, but just have lots and lots of tissue handy....And Terry is also coming up this weekend, to help with Jim, along with the 2 other brothers...Then on Sunday, everyone will be here for brunch...Should be a happy, happy reunion.....

Tina, Mexican goulash, does sound good but I'm afraid it wouldn't go in this house...Someone who will remain nameless would live on mashed potatoes and gravy or just topped with lots of butter....He'll still say, remember when we were at Kathy's in Reno and she made all that "strange" food? (pot stickers, soy beans and okra).....Silly guy!

Chickie, know you needed the rain but not on the newly cut hay..One of the things I disliked about living on the farm but in a way I had it easy, I either drove the tractor or the truck when we were hauling...I've told this story before, but hauling hay was how I met Jim...I was on top of the load, it shifted and down we came and a friend fell on my leg and really put a number on my femur...I ended up in 1 room at the hospital in traction and Jim was in the next and the nurses kept telling him to visit that little girl next door...Little did he know, that little girl would change his life forever.. Knowing him for 66 years and married for 62 he's still trying to figure out what happened.....

I've also been wondering about both Carol and Lady Carol....Hope all is OK....

Well, my uglies are done (that lack of sleep weirdness hit again).....
We did put on another show for the neighbors yesterday afternoon...We had the carpet out and it really clouded up and boomers started so we all ran to bring it in the garage...Well, after rolling and tugging, no rain......So, bright and early, we dragged the darn thing out and this is it! What's funny, it looks better now than it did when it was in the basement...Donna said, much better than what she has in their bedroom, lol....So, either tomorrow or maybe Sat. when the boys are here, it will make it back to the laundry room....
Tomorrow, Jim has to have blood work done and I'm thinking, lots of stops on the way home, including lunch....This afternoon, his brother is to stop down...This could really be an eye opener for his brother, who doesn't want to accept what's happening to Jim.....

Had a message from my sister and Levi, the new baby has gained about 5 ounces already...He's going to be like my Chris, was born hungry and gained weight even in the hospital...With Chris around, we never had leftovers, lol.....

As for dinner, have enough left overs for another meal, so really no cooking for me....

You all have a great day....

Happy eating.............

Good morning/afternoon! We are going for hot and miserable again today. The storm yesterday never materialized. We had alerts on our phone for flash flooding, damaging winds, torrential rains… all we got was some rumbling and a few light drizzle drops. Even the weather radar map showed the deep purple storm above us. It must have been WAY ABOVE us and never hit the ground!!! Much ado about nothing!

LOL about the phones. DH is now attached to his since he adopted my smart phone. It’s so funny. I showed him how to “OK Google…” and now he “looks up” everything. He is aways “smarty pants”-ing me with his newly gained knowledge.

Tasha went home last evening. I now have four pair of jeans to shorten for DGS and DSIL. I just sent one home for DD that I did while Tasha was here. Oh well… what else would I do???

MaryZ—quilt… do you have an idea what colors she uses in her home? When DH and I were first married, I wanted to do a piece for his sister (the one!). She drove a black car and wore only black with a little taupe. I made her a beautiful table runner using my favorite Japanese Diawabo taupe prints. It became her cat’s bed because it didn’t go in her teal and burgundy house. Personally, I can see a Tennessee Waltz quilt using black, white and burgundy and gold. What about a seasonal (Christmas maybe?) quilt? I really like that pattern! Black/white/grays is also pretty! Of course, if the décor was earth tones… Oops!!!

Thinking of you this morning…

I’m sure the hay will dry and be fine—especially since we didn’t get any moisture on it yesterday.

Irish—I slip in Mexican food here at home, and DH likes it. He just can’t stand to go to a Mexican restaurant because he doesn’t like Mexican food… duh!!! He’s really a plain ole meat guy with a small helping of potatoes. I think he’s allergic to green food. Oh, I do love pot stickers!!! I took out a gate when “parking” the hay rake when I was first learning how to drive the tractor and hay. LOL! I didn’t get asked to do it after that… call me either dumb or smart!!! I didn’t feel too bad a couple of years later when one of the DGSs took out another gate, and he’d been haying for 10 years! I felt vindicated. Yes, I’ve heard your story, and each time it is so fresh and happy! I love how you met!!! And… that you are still trying to figure out what happened—LOL! Do you not remember hitting your head when you broke your leg? Oh, maybe that was Cupid hitting you over the head!

We’ve been suffering lack of sleep here because the Hooligans have been on a tear every night several times a night. They are going to get locked out and be coyote bait, I’m afraid if DH has his way. Maybe we can go on a ride/run later in the evening and hope they will settle down. (she said hopefully…)

Tina—thank you! I think I have everything to make it. I’ll be eating on it for a week!!! Note—“I” It will be delicious!

Tonight… some leftovers. Tomorrow night… cooking. I might do the calabacita dish tonight as well. YUM!!! I think I’ll go get the corn from the freezer and a roasted Hatch green chile…

See you in the kitchen tomorrow…

Good afternoon super ladies. Ugh life throwing too many curve balls for me to hit here regular like. Just got off phone with a very tearful momma. Daddy is not having a good day he has yelled and fussed at her blaming her for everything. I keep telling her its the disease not daddy talking. I know it hurts though. Tomorrow I will be there. I will be doing a cognitive assessment on him to give to the drs next week. being a speech therapist I have the assessments from working in nursing home/rehab for years with dementia and Alzheimers. You know sometimes I wish I were dumb then I wouldnt know what was coming. He is declining faster than I really want with the dementia. I am afraid he will be a mean and angry one at that. I can handle him but momma just breaks down; she is so tender hearted with him and takes it all personal. The spouse usually gets the brunt of it.

Supper tonight will be BLTs. too hot to cook here.

I love reading all your ventures. OH my tina potty training HUMMMM I am still working on that one with my DD LOL some days it 100% in potty others its 100% in pull ups. You just never know with her! She too has good and bad days cognitively/physically. Today its been 50/50 lol:)

Irish a hornet sting Yikes DH got hit by one like 3 times once. Man the whelps it left. I feel for ya!

Chickie please stop sending your heat this way LOL UGH muggy here. We get pop up showers will be sunny then black then sunny then black. No rain out of it. but suppose to get it sat and sun guess thats your rain huh:)

Well still working on uglies never made it into sewing room today.

Hi Everyone!
My computer lost my IP address a couple days ago. DH finally got it to work by turning computer on and off. lol I have been watching gymnastics and women's swimming competition! I have also been sewing. DH was gone a couple of days too so I did not cook. Tonight I made Tacos. No hot sauce for me and I had it on salad greens.

Maryz - Thoughts and prayers for Warren. I know you are missing some good friends.

Irish - It is a good thing your boys and girl are coming in this weekend. It sounds like you could use some help and I for one am too far away!

Chickie - I think everyone is going to get warmer in the next few days. Try to stay indoors.

Tina - You sure do enjoy hot food!

Becca - You must be enjoying thinking about those grands! Stay cool!

Izzy - Glad you are able to administer the test. Knowledge sometimes is a burden and in this case sounds like you know too well what is coming.

I want to go watch swimming ladies, so good night! Sweet Dreams!
Carol
