SUPPER CLUB - Monday, August 1st

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Aug 01, 2016 3:33 am

Good morning! It's going to be a day of clouds and low 70's. Very comfortable here! Our week will be pretty quiet. Two quiet weeks in a row! I can dig it! I have a massage tomorrow and dinner with Warren on Thursday, but otherwise, nothing is on our calendar until next weekend! Whoo Hoo!

I finished making a dozen blocks for the Christmas swap. So far only 9 are signed up, but I made 12 in hopes we get a few more before the deadline. I also made 6 lotto blocks and mailed them off. Today will be a new prject, yet to be determined.

CAROL - I thought of you this weekend. My sister fell and tore her hamstrings. Doctors want to let her heal rather than try to repair them but for now she isn't able to do anything for herself. She is 73. So my BIL, a very active age 78, is caring for her and doing all the housework, cooking, etc. But he is slated for carpal tunnel surgery on Thursday. I think of you immediately when I hear those words. I'm wondering how he's going to do it all.

BECCA - well, I never knew those little chiggers stayed with you! I thought they were bites. We got into them only one time - near Folsom, CA at a state park when we were hiking. Never met chiggers before that and it was only after describing the incident and it's "aftermath" later to someone that they said, "That was chiggers!" What a curse they are!! Give me mosquitos or black flies any day! Thinking of you and your hubby today!

IRISH - is Terry still there or did he have to go back?

TINA - I bet your life is busy right now. Does Mom get her results today?

JANA - it's never dull at your house! Hope you got all your quilting problems squared away.

Yesterday I cleaned out the freezer and found a small black bean lasanga so we ended up with that last night. There's enough for tonite and THEN we'll move on to new food - probably that Mexican I was planning but didn't have yet.

Do you have a plan yet?

Good late morning from a gorgeous, warm, sunny, darn near purrrrfect, SW. Pa...Don't know why I'd say, darn near, it is purrrrrfect, here in this neck of the woods, (weather wise)......

Mary, I was waiting to hear if you were rudely awakened again this morning...Maybe your "alarm clock" decided to move on....That big vicious dog that lives at your house scared it away....When the kids were small, we had a dog and if someone came to the door, she'd bark up a storm and really did sound as if she were protecting us...BUT, if that person opened the door, our Suzie was under the couch in a flash...Sounds like you had a very productive "sewing" day..you sure can turn out those blocks....AND the reason Scout sleeps in the basement or car, he doesn't like Jim or the cats and we have to keep them separated...Makes for a "fur flying" time when they visit, lol....
Terry was here and had to leave, had to be back at work this morning...Jim was on fairly good behavior, wouldn't join us when we ate and then after Terry left, he asked me who that nice young fellow was...Terry did check all the outside doors and will be putting on new locks (with keys) so I will know at night, someone won't go wondering.....But, it was a great visit and I know he feels bad that he's not living closer...It's kind of funny, the one that lives the furthest away is the most concerned...He did tell me, the boys were going to S. Carolina to visit with their other grandparents for a couple of days...They haven't seen them for over a year and really need to see them.....
How many times have we all said, everyone is too busy, we all need to just slow down and "smell the roses"......Life is too busy, for sure....

And what is it with sisters???? Mary, sure hope your DS gets along and heals quickly...My sister had her kidney stone blasted and then robotic surgery last week...She's been the lucky one in the family to get most of the health problems...
And speaking of my sister, who is younger but much bigger, today is her 75th birthday...She has a DGGS due any day and we were all hoping little Levi James would come today....

Becca, Thinking about you and your DH and sending lots of prayers your way...Hoping for nothing but the bsst...You both need some good news....Hang in there my friend.....
I also didn't know that about chiggers, yikes.....Why in the world do we have these nasty things???Do they do any good at all? We wait for summer so we can be outside and the bugs chase us back in, just not fair, lol....

Being such a nice day, just not sure what I might get into this afternoon....All the ugles are done...Jim decided it was time for his nap so I might play in the sewing room....My contractor didn't make it over the weekend so maybe he'll show up today....He was on vacation and probably having a hard time getting caught up....

For our dinner, I'm thinking, toasted cheese with fresh tomato and corn on the cob...I have a couple of cupcakes and a little peach cobbler left over from yesterday for afters.....

Happy eating.....................

Mary, wonder what new project you'll find? :) I hope we get a few more for the Christmas swap too.
Irish, glad you DS got those locks on, you'll rest better.
Becca, I remember chiggers, ugh not fun.
We roasted chilli last night and I'm the washing and packing and putting in the freezer station. We still have half a bag to do but they were just picked yesterday so if we do a little tonight and maybe finish tomorrow night we'll be doing good. This bag is pretty hot chili but we'll get another bag of mild and when I make green enchilada sauce I usually throw one or two hot in with the mild and it comes out perfect.
Tonight we're having leftovers from last night, chili relleno casserole and cabalasitas (sp?)

Good afternoon!

Started this in the morning, but time is flying!

Mary - I need 2 weeks of quiet scheduling! Enjoy it!

Tina - yum - chilis! Since you are the chili expert - I have a question - how do you tell how hot a jalepeno chili is? Sometimes I get one that is so mild you don't know it is in there and other times, you run crying for the gallon of milk. Help!!

Irish - glad that Terry checked and will get you new locks with keys. That will be a big help.

Well I finally got around to making my tortilla soup - this time it is very hot!(spicy) and the kids were supposed to be here for dinner last night, ended up over at her parents, so I have dinner all done for tonight! I can play all day and just put the finishing touches on dinner just before I serve.

My tablet bit the dust, so now I have to go and get a new one - as soon as I convince Michael that the old one can't be fixed.

Enjoy!

Jana, I think the end of the chili tells you how hot, the more pointed the hotter, the more rounded the milder....unless I have that backwards LOL When I buy them I always just ask for the medium heat, mild seems to not have any. My brother is growing 3 different ones at his house, they are in the top 7 hottest in the world! I'm not eating at his house! LOL He loves HOT!

Becca, prayers for no problems.

I'm waiting to hear from Mom and Dad to see how they both are doing. Dad's appointment was at 10:30, not sure when Moms Dr was seeing her.

I’ve been absent. I’m so ashamed… we had food that I wasn’t supposed to mention for the last two nights. Tonight… I’m good! Zucchini lasagna is in the oven.

Yes, those little buggers dig in and live in your skin and make nasty, oozing bites. You have to scrub them, soak them in Clorox, dab fingernail polish on them or something to suffocate them. Nasty, nasty, nasty. They ooze like chicken pox! DH isn’t sensitive to them, but I definitely am.

Becca—do you have deer flies there? They make painful bites and welts. We also have a dozen kind of wasps/hornet types. I’ve been stung several times. My hand has swollen and stayed that way for a couple of days. Being outside can be hazardous to your happiness (and health)!

Coyotes sometimes sound like babies screaming or puppies crying and yapping at the same time at 500 decibels. It’s eerie! Sometimes they are so loud you think they are outside the windows. Their sound carries for quite a distance. Sometimes you can hear packs to the north and south “yelling” at each other. The dogs are pretty cautious on those nights.

Irish—The Hooligans bark up a storm, and then they are puddles of niceness when someone shows up. At least they alert us to someone coming. I’m not sure they are a lot of protection other than that. Oh, Dear, I know that had to have hurt when Jim asked who the nice young man was. We went through so much of that with MIL. HUGS to you!!! I’m glad you got your nighttime wanderer under control! MIL was always on good behavior for “visitors” not DH and me. Chiggers serve no earthly good other than maybe to count our blessings when they are not in season!!!

Tina—I still have Christmas swaps waiting to be put together. I must sit this one out and wait for ISBS. Your chilies sound delicious!!! Hot is fine here—for me, no one else. I haven’t heard of your cabalasitas… ah-ha!!! I looked them up, and they look like zucchini boats with a Mexican twist! They sound so much more delicious the way you say them!!! I would love them!!! I want to be at your house!!!

Jana—I’m hoping for some quiet time sometime after August 15… if I’m lucky. I would love your soup!!! DH would have to load his with sour cream to cool it down! Good luck with a new tablet!

Throw the book at me when I complain of cold weather! We are back to heat warnings with 109 degree index today. I'll be pulling hoses and watering this evening. It's miserable out there today!

And, dinner tonight… I made my zucchini boats… finally. Only, they morphed into zucchini lasagna—no pasta. I may have to add some jalapenos and sour cream on mine and make it sorta cabalasitas. There is a big pot of it, so I can have it several ways over the next few days.

Enjoy!!! Caio! Salud!

Tonight's dinner will be meatloaf, mashed potatoes, vegetable and a salad.

Irish I love your dinner menu!

Chickie - Sorry you are so warm. I do not do well in really hot weather so I sympathize.

Becca - Prayers are with you daily. Hope all is good with DH's tests.

Tina - I must tell you that the "mild" are too spicy for me! lol

Jana - You have been talking about that tablet for some time. So what happened today? Did Michael take it for repair or did you get a new one?

Have a good night everyone!
Carol

OK it is way late and I am on my new tablet. Michael got it for me this afternoon and the first thing I loaded was QIAD!

Thanks Tina for the chili info.
