SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, July 21st
Good Morning!
The early mornings are certainly darker than they were a month ago!
DH's birthday dinner last night was purrfect! Our friends came and that was a nice surprise for him. the restaurant patio was also purrfect and we listened to the salt water lap the bulkhead all through supper, while the sun went down. Friends came back here for cake and ice cream. Bill had a very nice day!
My battery is dying so this will be quick!
CAROL - love your menu and your organization! I try, but you have it down, girl!
IRISH - I think you need to invest in some inexpensive Melmac dishes if Jim continues to 'help' . . . ;o) Oh, Bill's cake was a chocolate cake - from scratch. But the white frosting was from the good folks at Betty Crocker.
JANA - I love small production plays, and when outside, so much the better! Can you take picnics when you go watch them?
Well, I typed this all out to this point early this morning and then the confuser died. Had to plug it back in and wait for it to do its thing. In the meantime, I did my two miles and picked another 8 cups of blackberries - of course, then came the jam. The last batch I believe. Unless I get plums or peaches . . . . Now I'll pick berries to freeze for winter pies.
Supper tonite will be those leftovers I was threatening Bill with last night. I'm sure they'll be even more tasty with another day of aging on them. but first, some friends want us to come by about 4pm for a glass of vino and to meet their neighbors. We can always use new friends! And I'll make us some kind of chix leftover supper when we come back.
I hope your supper is less 'iffy' than ours!

I never made it here yesterday. I went in to see Mom yesterday morning and did some chores and vacuuming for her. Lunch was carry-out Chinese, and while I was there… yup! Got enough for dinner last night… and tonight. It’s way too hot too cook!!!
Mom enjoyed the blackberry cobbler I made for her, and of course DH loves his. I made the cobblers at 10:00 the night before.
Our heat index will be 111 today. It’s like breathing under water. The Hooligans and I just returned from exercising Ava. Even they move slowly, and I don’t push them to move any faster.
Mary—glad Bill had a fun birthday! Hope you told him HB from us the day before since I was in absentia yesterday. There is no way I can walk my mile here in this heat! Of course, I COULD get up earlier, but I just don’t. DH doesn’t like to be disturbed. I didn’t get as many berries last night. I think it’s the heat. I’m not going to look tonight, but I’ll be back checking tomorrow. There are still A LOT of berries. Have a fun evening!
Irish—I get totally off track… ALL the time!!! I must have a severe case of ADD… no hyperactivity—I never seem to get in a hurry. I’m glad you can laugh at Jim’s “help”. It’s the best medicine for you!
DGD is returning this evening. I will need to pull hoses and water and go pick her up half way between us. We’ll probably stop at the store for kid “provisions” on the way home. I’m glad I don’t have to spend time cooking… just tossing a salad to go with the spicy chicken and rice. If I'm absent for dinner call, you'll all understand that I'm spending time with DGD and get caught up with her.
Enjoy!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, July 21st
Hello from the deep south in Louisiana, We have been dealing with mid to upper 90's and heat index of 105* to 110*. I returned to work today and my guys are cooking supper for me. Some sort of grilled fowl - quail I think. I'm responsible for the sides. Isn't funny when they grill, they think that's the whole meal. Oh well, I'm grateful I don't have to do it all.
I have been canning lately. In early summer, I put up 15 pints of blueberry jam. This past weekend I put up 28 pints of fig jam. My guys dearly love the stuff! But it's a hot job! Every year I say I will freeze things and make jam and jelly in the winter. But I never do.
I'm sending hugs to prayers to all, Abita
