SUPPER CLUB - Sat, Feb 13th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Feb 13, 2016 3:33 am

Good Morning!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANA!! I hope you have a very special lunch today and get treated like Queen for a Day! I won't even rag on you about your proposed f---fest next week! Tell Sarah happy birthday, too! Any little birthday gifts wrapped in blue flannel make it in time to celebrate with you?

IRISH - I hope the 'white coats' don't find you but your kids do! You can all come here to celebrate Jim's birthday. We're wet, but running in the 50's for temps. I'll make cake.

TINA - What days will you be babysitting now? I hope this is a permanent schedule. You need some rest, girl! Your dad deserves a medal of some kind. I hope he heals quickly. Does he still play music gigs?

CAROL - congratulations on your quilt! Here's to a blue ribbon coming your way! I've never heard of Synthrapol.

BECKY - so happy to see you pulling up a chair! Welcome!! And bring on the pancakes! I grew up with them for occasional suppers. Mom would add shredded cheddar cheese or creamed corn to the batter for extra 'ooomph' when they were on the supper menu - usually during Lent.

ABITA - I'm feeling gardeny, too. Though here, we're in the 50's and even broke 60 one day last week. My roses are sprouting growth and leaf buds are forming on my lilacs. I bought a bunch of seeds for my BFF for a gift a few days ago. Spring is coming!

BECCA - how much snow do you have now? Our snow here, when we get any, is almost always wet and heavy. Makes driving treacherous. Fortunately it is uncommon to get more than a couple inches and it's usually gone by end of the day.

Yesterday I finished my jar swap blocks (unless more sign up before tomorrow's deadline) and also got my cross-stitched label done for the Thanksgiving quilt I made last month. My next big project will be my DGS's Seahawk quilt. I'm considering ideas about what to do there, and making some sketches. No cutting or sewing for a while yet.

Tonight's supper may be a challenge: Our anniversary is tomorrow and DH said he wants to go to a popular steak house tonite that does NOT accept reservations. It's going to be BUSY what with everyone out celebrating Jana's birthday. So I think we'll go early - maybe about 4pm. Then, as long as we'll be in Tacoma, we'll go visit my DB, too. His days are filled now with PT and OT so evening visits are best for him anyway. He's a busy guy!

So are you cooking tonite? Pancakes, perhaps? they do sound good . . .

Good morning,

A big thank you for the birthday wishes. We went out yesterday to our favorite Italian restaurant in SLC. I had their fancy lunch special, lobster, shrimp risotto. Oh my, yummy!
So since I got my lobster, we won't be going out to dinner at the other place. I have never spent that much at lunch! I have my doggy bag for lunch today as well. We brought home dessert and had it after dinner here - chocolate bread puddung - decadent!

Mary - no, nothing in blue flannel has gotten here - what have you been up to?

I made that new soup - very good and Michael wants it again. I will make a change, I will use just plain diced tomatoes with a few diced chilies. The canned Rotel tomatoes and chilies was waaay hot! A Chickie special! The soup only took a few minutes to prepare as well.

Kings Ranch Chicken Soup

1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
2 can Rotel tomatoes and chilies -( substitute 1 can diced tomatoes - undrained for either
(small amount of Oretega diced green chilies mild - your choice of heat.)
1 tsp onion powder
1/2tsp garlic powder
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
8 oz. Velveeta cheese
5 cups chicken broth
6 small corn tortillas, cut in half, then 1/2 inch strips

Whisk together soups, broth, seasonings, tomatoes and bring to a boil. Turn down to simmer, add cheese, stirring until melted and simmer for 10 minutes. Add sliced tortillas and cook for 2-3 minutes more.

Dinner - leftovers and I also froze some.

Enjoy,
Jana

Serve with shredded cheddar cheese, green onions and sour cream

Happy birthday Jana! Have a great day!

Mary, yes this will be long term with the babysitting. This week I have Monday and Tuesday off but after that it's going to be Monday and Wednesday off. Dad doesn't do his music anymore cause she quit going and then made him quit, very sad.
Frankie said we're eating out tonight for early Valentine's day :-)

Good morning from a very, very cold, Sw. Pa....We're now up to 10 and that might be the high for the day...Last Sunday when we went to church, I wore a sweater, this Sunday, I'll look like that little fellow from the movie, Christmas Story....That is, if I venture out....

Jana, Even though I thought your birthday was yesterday, that's OK, you can have all weekend to celebrate...Hoping you are having a great day and hope you do something extra fun.....

Mary, there were times when I hoped the kids wouldn't find me, lol...Wet and 50 sounds like heaven to me right now...Now wouldn't you be surprised if the clan pulled up in your driveway, lol...Jim really likes banana cake with carmel icing if you're baking.....Enjoy your dinner......

Tina, thank goodness you're going to be getting some well deserved rest...And I can understand what your Dad goes through with the driving...Jim has started "telling" me how to drive....

Becca, I agree, Spring can't come too soon....And I too wish it was time to play in the dirt.....

Being so cold I don't want to get out of my heavy robe but, the uglies are getting uglier...At least the laundry is done...I never did go to the store so I'm kind of hoping everyone wants to meet for breakfast and not come here to eat, lol....Will be baking pumpkin pies instead of birthday cake (Mary is taking care of that), so if anyone comes, it will be pie and coffee.....
Had a call from Kathy last night and she and DH were on their way to Napa for the weekend...Said, they had gone through Tahoe and they had about 5 ft. of snow but it's to be about 80 in Cal. for the weekend....Just not fair!

Jim loved his pancakes last night and there's enough batter left for his lunch today....I'm thinking for diner, might be left over swiss steak and gravy I just happen to spot in the freezer...Mashed potatoes and a veggie and we're good to go...Will have to hide the pumpkin pies or he'll have them eaten before tomorrow, lol....

Happy eating............

Eagle update: The baby has been returned to the nest in Ft. Myers and is doing very well...Of course big brother or sister didn't seem to happy to have the competition back in the nest...He/she liked being an only child...But all is well in the pines....

AND, in our Pgh. nest, we have an egg! Momma Hays layed her 1st one last night and probably will have another in a day or so...Have a good feeling, it's going to be a good eagle season.....

My goodness, you are all so busy this weekend....Happy Birthday to Jana.
The pancakes still sound good to me, thanks to Irish bringing them up, but alas, couldn't talk anyone into them, even this morning....
We are having a beef stew...it is already simmering, will dump some biscuits in the oven and call it good....Have a great weekend. Becky
