SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Dec. 31st

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Dec 31, 2015 3:34 am

Good Morning!

The last day of the year! Is anyone going out tonite? We used to do the party/dance/breakfast thing. Always at Eagles clubs and we'd take our Rv earlier in the day and leave it in the parking lot so we could just come out of the building and go to bed. No driving home in the wee hours for us! But now - we're usually in bed by 10pm. Even the shotguns fired off at midnight by the neighbors don't wake us anymore. Wonder what this means . . . ??

TINA - new food! Now THERE'S a cause for celebration after a week of Christmas leftovers!

CAROL 7 - I love navy bean soup and I love that your hubby loves cats!! I remember once on ABC World News, Dan Harris admitted in a story he did that he loved cats, he and 3 other men in the country, and that his job at home was to empty the litter box every day. He has 3 of them.

JANA - My brothers all married cat-hating women, too, though one "turned away from the dark side". but it took 40 years to 'fix' her! But that brother now has a cat! I have been to Four Corners. It's been many years, but I think the roads were paved. You need to get a dog to take so you can stand him with a leg in each state. I think it's a rule . . . . ;o)

CHICKIE - love your comment - 'all fused to the RIGHT side of the fabric'. Boy, have I ever made a mess there! More than once! When I was working on my ISBS's (and other applique projects with many pieces) I fuse by day and cut out at night while watching TV. Of course, if you have a cat - or dog! - on your lap, it adds a layer of difficulty.

BECCA - coconut cake isn't just a holiday dessert, you know. You can have it any time of year you want!

LADY CAROL - we've been wondering how you are doing with the storms we heard about in your part of the world! glad you are OK, and glad that farmer's cows are OK, too! Have to ask, though, what is Gala Pie Salad?

Today we will finish our firewood project! Whoo Hoo!! Be so nice to have that all done for the year. and not an hour too soon! lol! I will probably start packing away some of the Christmas things, too. Time to get life back to normal.

My pork roast dinner came out purrfectly last night! and everything was done at just the right time! That is uncommon around here. Now we have leftovers of everything. So no cooking tonite - just reheat. Tomorrow I'll have to get creative with the leftovers, I suppose.

How's supper looking at your house?

Hi Everyone!
Happy New Year!

We will stay in tonight and have Navy Bean and Ham Soup. Corn Bread Muffins are in the freezer so we will feast well tonight.

Mary - Glad your firewood project is done today. Leftovers are always a good thing. I have some leftover pork chops in the freezer we will eat in the next couple of weeks. Always good to have something in the freezer.

Have a wonderful last day of the year everyone!
Carol

Good morning,

We are home bodies when it comes to New Year's. Besides it is cold here to go out tonight - the temp in SLC will hover around zero tonight. We are 5 right now at 10 a.m. Burrrrr!

Last night I made cheeseburger soup. Easy, quick and good. Tonight will be chicken parm and a salad. Tomorrow will be a whole bunch of snicky snacks - spinach dip, etc.

Enjoy,
Happy New Year!
Jana

Hello to all,We are having some sun mixed with cloudy at times.I can sure live with that after all our rain.

Maryz My Mom used to make coconut cake a lot.It was one of my favs. But now I never make it only at Christmas because no one likes it but 2 in the family. They all want Carmel.my DH is like yours. When he is sick he wants to be left alone. And he is always very independent so I cannot relate to what they say about a whining DH.lol

Jana Stay warm & enjoy your snacks.

Carole I plan to have corn muffins tomorrow .Love them & soup too.

We stay home & are in by 10 too.If the gun or firecrackers go off I hear them.
DH is having a real bad pain day so he only wants soup & grilled cheese.Swill make me a salad with chicken breast on top.....Becca

Good early afternoon from chilly, (not as cold as Jana's), dreary, SW. Pa.....But for the end of the year, this is OK, we don't have any snow......

Mary, thank goodness for the end of the wood job...You need some relaxation and a glass or 2 of wine...And taking down decorations is not relaxing...I look at our tree and wonder how soon Nicky will be coming back...But, Baby Girl still thinks of the tree as her's and we can't disturb the Princess.....

You all sound like big time party animals, much the same as Jim and I...But, we will actually put on our shoes and a coat and walk over to our neighbors, Buddy Ted's and we'll drink coffee, eat left over cookies and have a glass of wine (if I get to the store)...And, probably be back home by 10:00...If I finish the bottle of wine, I'll be sound asleep by midnight....I think the only time we actually stayed up until midnight was when it turned over to 2000 and I didn't want to miss the "end of the world", lol.....

Gotta tell you about my box of meals....We received 3 complete dinners for 2, complete with all the ingredients except salt and pepper and instructions for cooking...It is all fresh, comes in a big insulated box with dry ice...
The dinners were got are Coconut-crusted Chicken fingers with garlic green beans and spiced sweet potato fries...The chicken is a huge breast...
The 2nd, is Steak au Poivre with cheesy Hasselback potatoes, creamed kale and shallot peppercorn sauce...And you should see the steak!
The 3rd is or was, Fregola Sarda and Sweet Italian Sausage with mushrooms, wilted spinach and parmesan...3 big pieces of sausage...

I made the sausage and let's just say, it was different but good. this is the description...Fregola sarda is a Sardinian pasta made from semolina flour. It's nutty character pairs perfectly with sausage and thyme. Tossed with mushrooms and topped with garliclky spinach, the dish has weeknight comfort food written all over it....

This came from Hello Fresh, it is expensive but cheaper than going out to dinner...Kathy belongs but doesn't get the meals every week and she's able to pick and choose what she wants...It is nice to be able to try something different but for Jim and I, it would be too much food......
Now, tonight, it's back to semi normal food...In other words, it's "mustgo" and the fridge will get cleaned out.....Anything that looks edible and hasn't turned green will make it to the buffet....For sure tomorrow will be new food, pork and sauerkraut, and then back to my box of stuff......

Happy eating.............

Good Evening All.......weather is not improving.....rain yet again....and that wind has a certain icey feel to it......

we are the lucky one regarding the awful weather....we are the Midlands....the folk in the North and in Scotland are bearing the brunt.....and some of them have been flooded 3 times in less than 3 weeks.....it must be soul destroying to see your home and personal items ruined by the water that contains unmentionables in it.....we saw a NASA photo on tv that highlighted the weather pattern around the world....so its not just us that is affected......something to do with the Jet Stream......

today we went out for breakfast......so no cooking.....just a few snacks.....Vegetable Spring Rolls...with Chilli Dipping Sauce.....not bad but must try the Sweet and Sour Sauce next time......and Frangepaine (almond) Tarts......

Maryz....Gala Pie is similar to Pork Pie with very crispy pastry and contains Hard Boiled Eggs.....so when you slice it(its oblong not round)you hopefully get a slice of egg in your portion.....its shop bought I hasten to add......

some of our Caravan friends are camping.....brave souls.....but they are on a "proper site" and have all "mod cons"including a Spa Day......

Heres to a Healthy New Year to us all.....we will probably be in the land of nod by the time the New Year arrives.....to those who are staying up to see in the New Year.....cheers....your stamina is stronger than ours......

Good afternoon! Usually we go to spend New Year’s with friends at their lake house, but we didn’t get the word this year, so home it is. I am not complaining!!! Going is good, but home is best! I think there may be a party at DS1’s, and we may check it out for awhile. I doubt we celebrate New Year’s on central time… East Coast time, maybe…

Mary and Tina—All the fusing to the fabric is finished and the pieces cut out!!! I feel like I have really accomplished something—they seem to be fused to the correct sides… if she faces the right direction—I’ll be good! If she doesn’t… well… I fear it’s as good as she gets! Always someone who is going the wrong way, and it was always me at aerobics classes and line dance classes. I finally gave up after hitting everyone a few times and no one would dance beside me. If my SBS is going the wrong direction, it’s just typical for me. Hopefully, she is right. I need to work on the background fabric now… looking up the dimensions in a few minutes to cut them out.

Lady Carol—the storms you are having sound much like the flooding in the next state over from me (Missouri). You are right about seeing everything you own ruined.

Mary—I thought about you… DH posted his Craig’s List ad for firewood again. I have a feeling I will be busy again when it dries out here again. I don’t even get to sit by the fireplace and enjoy the results of my labors.

Irish—you had me at “coconut-crusted”… I like all things coconut-crusted. You could make a dipping sauce using orange marmalade… Your dinners ALL sound delicious!!! We have mustgoes here every so often, too.

Becca—my grandma won a purple ribbon at the fair with her coconut cake. DH and I do like coconut… maybe I should make it sometime. Grilled cheese sandwiches sound divine.

Jana—you’re right… too cold to go out!!!

Carol—I think we’ll polish of the ham and beans tonight. I’ll make corn bread or corn muffins to go with. DH isn’t as crazy about the beans as I am, but with the muffins he will find it edible.

And, there’s dinner… ham and beans and corn cakes of some type. At least that’s the menu for now. It’s always subject to change…

Happy New Year Everyone!!!
